Double Claims: The Lost mate
Chapter 60
CHAPTER 60: CHAPTER 60
"Everyone, today is Kelin’s birthday." Sam announced cheerfully as he walked inside. He raised Kelin’s hand in the air, for everyone to see.
"You never told anyone," Maria said and moved closer to Kelin, hugging her tightly. "Happy birthday sweetheart."
"Thank you," Kelin responded with a bright smile. She joined the others at the table. There wasn’t much to be shared, but Maria brought out wine, and they all held a toast to Kelin’s birthday.
"I told you," Sam nudged her. "There’s nothing to cry about."
"Happy birthday, Kelin." Trevor, who had been silent, gave his own wishes. "May the moon goddess be kind to you."
In less than a minute, everyone had chorused birthday wishes to Kelin, including Triton and Devon.
"Lets host a celebration for her tonight. What do you think, Trevor?" Maria suggested.
Trevor nodded his head in approval. "We should, and we’d also celebrate you as you’re leaving for Veilwood."
He slid his hand on top of her palm on the table and rubbed it gently. He was going to miss her. Trevor had been more than upset when he found out he couldn’t also cross the forest to go along with her because of the blight.
"Is your fever from the blight gone?" Maria asked in a voice that was almost a whisper.
"Yes. It went because of the medicine you gave me last night using your body." A smirk formed at the corner of his lips as he teased her.
She rolled her eyes at him playfully.
"So, we’d begin preparations for the celebration tonight." She turned towards Devon who was seated opposite her. "Can you inform everyone that they are invited to a party here."
"Sure, Luna Maria." Devon said in response and stood up.
"Luna?" Triton echoed, with a slight look of bewilderment on his face.
"Yes. Maria is now our Luna." Kelin said proudly. "She handles pack affairs perfectly."
Triton chuckled and sipped the remnant of his wine. "But this isn’t even a pack."
"It is still a land that needs a ruler, and the king and his Luna are doing a great job." Kelin said.
"About the forger, how do we get to him, what plans do we use?" Maria turned to Triton, and then, to Trevor.
"Not now," Trevor whispered so that only she could hear. He gave a side eye to Kelin, signifying that they couldn’t talk about it when the girl was there. Maria got the message and changed the discussion topic to something else.
Maria stood up from the gathering. "I need to resume my Luna duties. I’d check on any other sick person and start planning the celebration."
She headed towards her room. Trevor remained seated at the table with his brother, Sam, Devon and Kelin.
Maria could still see her wolf, Aria. The wolf had been there with her the entire while. As Trevor had left the room earlier and told her to wait for him, it was Aria who encouraged her to go downstairs to see his brother and check if he may recognize her.
"You’re one step closer to doing greater things." Aria cheered her on.
"I don’t know. I feel a bit overwhelmed. What if my family in Veilwood aren’t good people or they won’t accept me so easily. How is Veilwood? What is my family like?"
"If I give out all that information, I’d be spoiling the fun and suspense, wouldn’t I?"
"Just give me a bit of information." Maria pleaded.
"Okay. I’d give you just a bit. Are you sure about this?"
"Tell me."
"You have a younger sister, but she stole your suitor." Aria went ahead to explain everything that happened on the day she was supposed to marry Brian. "I’ve never trusted your sister. Something about her puts me off."
"That’s a lot," Maria muttered as she listened to Aria’s revelations about her sister. "It means that when I return to Veilwood, I should be careful of her."
"Absolutely, I don’t trust her."
Maria sat on the edge of her bed, and picked up the book that lay on the table by the side about the different werewolf lands. Finally, she would be seeing her hometown, Veilwood which she had always read about. She also couldn’t wait to recover her memory fully.
"I can’t wait to finally get into your body." Aria said as she walked towards a corner. She curled up there and closed her eyes as if sleeping.
Alice wasn’t available to bring the tonic for Maria, so she had to continue the rest of her day without drinking it.
"Luna Maria, can I help distribute supplies to the sick homes today? I want to do something good on my birthday." Maria turned towards the door as she heard Kelin’s voice.
She opened it to see the bubbly girl standing there.
"You can." Without waiting for another word from Maria, Kelin headed to do what she wanted.
Maria felt quite relieved that Kelin had offered to do that part. It was one of her tasks today that was going to take almost the entire day, and she was glad someone chose to do it.
Now, the only thing that was left was to plan the celebration. Most of what was needed was food, there could be a little decoration, and there had to be a cake for celebrating Kelin.
Some women came to help with the cooking. Devon gathered other people and they put up a light decoration in Trevor’s castle. Trevor was also busy setting up the place. He wanted it to be perfect as he celebrated Maria.
It had already drawn to evening when everywhere was set. The party was fixed for the night. Maria, feeling quite exhausted, went back to the room to have a short moment of rest before everything would begin.
She was alone in her room and slipped into the tub for the warm water to calm her nerves.
As she closed her eyes, she felt a hand on her back. She jerked fearfully, but calmed with a smile when she saw that it was Trevor. He took off his clothes and joined her in the bathtub.
