Double Claims: The Lost mate
Chapter 72
CHAPTER 72: CHAPTER 72
"Father, don’t say that. You won’t die. None of us would."
He slumped further towards the wall. "I still have to tell you the truth. I know that you already know the truth that I’m not your father, but that is not all. You know Alice is not your mother as well." He took a deep breath and clasped his bound hands in front of him.
"Maria, you have rogue blood in you."
I nearly gasped. "How?"
"But the thing was that Alice and Laura are rogue sisters. Laura never showed signs of going rogue like she is doing now."
"Father I’m a rogue does it mean..."
"Just listen to me, Maria."
"When I was about to become Alpha, fate brought me and Laura together as mates. I didn’t mind that she had rogue blood in her because she never showed the dark side of it until today."
He paused for a moment before continuing.
"Alice on the other hand still had the urge to room like a rogue and never truly settle down. She gave birth to you and abandoned the child saying that she will return later after she has sorted something. "
"And what of my real father?" I asked inquisitively.
Father sighed. "None of us know his whereabouts."
"Not even Alice?"
He shrugged his shoulders. "She doesn’t know where he is. We don’t know if he’s dead or alive."
I shut my eyes and allowed the foreign information I had just heard to sink in.
Could this be the reason I was mated to Trevor who was a rogue. I thought it was a mismatch from the Moon goddess to mate a rogue with a pack born together.
I lowered my gaze and stared at the chains in my hands, then I whispered to father, "Is that all the secret you have to tell me or is there more I need to hear about myself?"
"That is all I know, child."
A moment of awkward silence drifted through us with both of us hanging our heads low like we were lost in thoughts.
A cough from Sasha interrupted the moment of silence. Father and I turned to her. He tried reaching to support her to rise but it was quite futile as he could barely move his binded hands.
"Sasha," I called out with a voice full of excitement. She mumbled something inaudible and attempted raising her hand as if she wanted to touch her forehead, but twisted her face when she felt that she was bound.
"Father," she stuttered, her eyes still fluttering. I could see the pain registering on her face from her facial expression.
"Maria, why are you in my room?" she called out.
She looked around the room with a look of confusion.
"What’s going on here?" She asked no one in particular.
She tried moving her hand again but she was chained to the wall.
Father explained things to her.
"Your mother is the one behind all this. I have no idea how all of us got here or how she transported us inside. At least I’m happy that both of you are safe."
"I still don’t understand anything. Are you trying to say that Mother chained us down here?"
"Yes I chipped in. She has some ulterior motives that none of us knew all along."
Sasha leaned her back against the wall and shut her eyes almost as if struggling to process all what we revealed to her.
"It doesn’t make any sense to me. Why? What? How?
Father looked at Sasha once again and explained everything that happened even how Alice was taken to somewhere that we are not aware of.
Sandra listened with her jaw slacked in utter bewilderment.
"I can’t believe my ears." Sasha whispered.
She drew her legs closer to her in a fetal position. Mother can’t become evil overnight. What if she’s possessed or something is controlling her to do this to us it’s just..."
"That’s the same thing all of us thought when we got here, but it seems Mother is not who we thought she was.
Sasha drifted her eyes around the room scanning all the corners with precision. The candle lights did little to illuminate the room.
"I’m so sorry Sasha."
She raised a brow. "Sorry for what exactly."
I inhaled deeply. "A lot was not revealed to me and I know I took your place and it caused a rift between us. Now that we are probably in the last days of our life I want you to forgive me."
She forced a smile "I’ll forgive you, but with a condition."
I was alert and ready to hear what her condition was.
She continued. "I own the throne of Veilwood and when we get back I’ll be made alpha and not you."
I nodded my head slowly. It’s a deal. I won’t struggle with your position. You’re the rightful owner."
"There won’t be any position if we don’t get out of here alive." Father chipped into our conversation.
"We’ll get out safely. We just need to know what exactly mother is planning." Sasha assured us.
She still called Laura ’mother’. I already told myself that I wouldn’t refer to someone that asks so slyly like a snake as my mother. I thought of Trevor, if he was safe or if they even had gotten to him.
It was just one day away from him and everything was already in shambles.
Trevor! That was it. All I needed to do was to mind link him through our bond to come for me. I had read in those books about mates, that partners could sense when the other is in danger, but how do I do it?
I shut my eyes tight and tried to connect with him but it was a futile effort.
"What are you doing?" Sasha asked.
I tried reaching out for him in my mind one more time, before I gave up an opened my eyes.
I slumped my shoulders in defeat.
I glanced at father and then at Sasha. "I was trying to reach out to my mate through the bond.
Sasha chuckled and I wondered what was funny. "Your mate is stuck in the cursed lands so he won’t be able to reach you. It’s not possible."
I closed my eyes once again and exhaled deeply. The only chance to freedom was ruined.
"Sasha," I called out as an idea struck me. "Brian is your mate isn’t he?"
"He is,"
"He’s not in cursed lands. Why don’t you mind-link him?"
She widened her eyes in realization and nodded her head repeatedly, signifying that she understood what I meant.
"Brian," she muttered.
