CHAPTER 579: SHE IS THAT BEAM OF LIGHT, ILLUMINATING HIS DARK WORLD_3
Helian Yu’s head was practically steaming, yet he stubbornly insisted, "Anyone is fine, except that Shen You’an. Absolutely not."
"Unreasonable."
The other party hung up the phone.
Not far away, a man waiting in the shadows adjusted the glasses on the bridge of his nose and walked over accompanied by two bodyguards dressed in black.
He spoke respectfully, "Madam, you’ve been busy all day. The master has sent a driver to take you home. As for the young master, I will personally ensure his safety, you can rest assured."
Although his tone was courteous, his presence was unwaveringly assertive.
Helian Yu sneered coldly, "Oh, now he’s in such a rush to play the doting father? Where was he before?"
Secretary Su offered only a faint smile in response, saying nothing.
Left with no alternative, Helian Yu stormed off with the bodyguards, brimming with rage.
Secretary Su instructed the two bodyguards to stand guard at the door of the hospital room, forbidding entry to any outsiders. He then stepped aside with his phone to make a call.
Shortly after, the sound of approaching footsteps echoed in the hallway.
Instinctively, Secretary Su turned his head.
Speaking into the phone, he said, "Sir, Miss Shen has arrived."
~
Secretary Su personally opened the hospital room door, carefully closing it after Shen You’an entered.
For her, the young master had suffered serious injuries. At least she remembered to come visit him.
Deep inside, Secretary Su quietly felt sympathy for the young master.
Liu Runxi nervously clenched the bedsheet with his fingers, his expression betraying an unusual unease.
He couldn’t get past the fact that he wasn’t wearing pants under the blanket, and now he had to face Shen You’an like this. No matter how he tried, he couldn’t shake off that awkwardness. His ears silently flushed red.
The hospital room was warmed to a perfectly comfortable temperature. She removed her down jacket, revealing the slim black evening dress beneath it, and walked closer.
Liu Runxi kept his head lowered, his demeanor reserved and silent.
Shen You’an walked to the foot of the bed and glanced at the medical record sheet.
Left leg ligament tear, right knee patellar fracture, multiple varying degrees of arm injuries.
She placed the sheet back where it was, moved to the bedside, pulled up a chair, and sat down.
"Liu Runxi, thank you."
Her tone was sincere.
Yet, the young man froze abruptly, his hand gripping the bedsheet tightly, the veins on his hand bulging.
His throat tightened. "An’an, I’m sorry."
Shen You’an raised an eyebrow.
"What do you mean by that?"
Liu Runxi lifted his gaze. She wasn’t wearing glasses.
Those eyes held an indescribably enchanting power.
He awkwardly averted his gaze.
Shen You’an chuckled softly, "So, you’ve known all along your mother wanted to kill me."
That explained it—the reason why, when the accident occurred, everyone else was caught off guard, yet he was the first to rush onto the stage.
Because he had already been aware of Helian Yu’s sinister scheme.
Liu Runxi was incredibly intelligent, Shen You’an thought. Had it not been for the system support, her grades might never have surpassed his.
He must have been privy to his mother’s secret plotting and certainly had his ways of finding out.
Unable to stop her plan, he offered himself as sacrifice, placing himself in harm’s way for her.
The moment he heard her words, the blood drained from the young man’s face.
His lips trembled slightly. He murmured, "An’an, I’m sorry...."
He had gravely erred. He shouldn’t have drawn near to her. Shouldn’t have entertained unrealistic dreams.
He wasn’t deserving of friends, wasn’t deserving of love. He was destined to live in darkness forever...
An oppressive aura engulfed the young man instantly.
Weary, he pulled the blanket over his head, darkness swallowing him entirely. Like returning to his childhood, it felt strangely comforting.
This was fine...
He sank into an abyss of endless despair.
Silence fell over the world, a stillness so profound it was unsettling.
She must have left.
She must never return.
With her gone, his mother wouldn’t trouble her anymore. Everything would go back to normal.
But why did it hurt so much?
Self-destructively, he held his breath, seeking a twisted form of exhilaration in the suffocating lack of oxygen.
The lack of air triggered adrenaline release, momentarily distracting him from the pain.
Numbly addicted to the feeling, he vaguely recalled a distant memory—his first day stepping into Lanya Primary School as a fourth grader.
He would always remember that day.
Everyone ridiculed him, except for her smile.
He had never seen a smile so beautiful, like a beam of light piercing through his dark world.
But that light was never meant to belong to him.
Shen You’an, of course, hadn’t left. Sensing that something was wrong, she quickly reached out and pulled the blanket away.
The sight of the young man’s pale face, the bulging vein at his temple, and the desperate resemblance of a fish stranded on land hit her sharply.
Her composed expression finally broke. "Liu Runxi."
The young man’s eyes were jet black, his sclera showing very little white, shrouded in heavy gloom.
Looking at her face, he suddenly reached out and pulled her tightly into his arms.
He held her firmly, so tightly that his handsome face carried a madness bordering on obsession.
He could finally breathe again.
Like a stranded fish returning to the embrace of the ocean.
