CHAPTER 189: DESTROY THE CURSED (6)

Chapter 189

Feeling a sudden sense of danger, the hero instinctively twisted around and swung his mace with all his strength. The timing was perfect — the weapon met a long, crimson scorpion tail mid-swing. A sharp clang echoed through the air, followed by an explosive shockwave that hurled him backward like a ragdoll.

He barely had time to register what had hit him when a thick wall of solid earth erupted from the ground behind him. His body slammed into it with brutal force, bones rattling from the impact. Gasping, he gritted his teeth and forced himself to stand, his muscles screaming in protest. But the moment he found his footing, his eyes widened in horror.

Another scorpion tail — this one jagged and pulsing with lethal intent — was already lunging straight for his chest. He tried to move, to lift his weapon again, to shout — anything. But he couldn’t.

He was trapped.

Thick tendrils of earth had shot out from the wall behind him, pinning his legs and arms in place like iron shackles. His body froze. His mind raced. How do I stop this? How do I survive? The answer never came.

Panic seized his heart.

The tail struck.

It pierced clean through his skull, bursting out the back of his head in a spray of gore and brain matter. His eyes went dim instantly. His limp body remained bound to the wall for a brief moment, blood dripping down in slow rivulets before he collapsed like a puppet with its strings cut.

But the monster wasn’t done.

The scorpion-like beast lifted its twisted head, as if sensing something. One of its tails lashed out — faster than before — aimed at a flickering blur darting just within its range. That blur, however, twisted mid-air, narrowly dodging the strike with near-superhuman precision.

Then came a sudden surge of speed.

The blur became a man — a fighter — blonde-haired, eyes cold and furious, muscles taut like coiled steel. With a burst of momentum, he closed the distance in a heartbeat. A clawed hand tore through the scorpion’s thick black carapace like a hot knife through flesh. Dark, putrid blood sprayed into the air, splattering the ground below as the beast screeched in agony.

But it didn’t fall.

With a feral snarl, the creature lunged again, this time with its black tail — thicker, deadlier, faster. It aimed straight for the blonde warrior’s heart. The ground cracked beneath the beast’s weight, its tail screaming through the air like a spear from hell.

Yet just in time, the figure stepped forward, eyes locked onto the strike. With inhuman strength, he caught the tail in mid-air. The impact shook the ground beneath him, dust erupting around his feet.

But he didn’t flinch.

His grip tightened.

And then — from his free arm — claws extended further, longer, sharper, almost monstrous in nature.

But that wasn’t the end.

Channeling a surge of dark essence into his hands, Aiden’s claws pulsed with lethal energy, growing more jagged and wicked in shape. In one swift, savage motion, he lashed out—severing the beast’s thick, black tail with terrifying precision. As the severed limb thudded to the ground, the beast let out a guttural, bone-rattling screech and scrambled to escape, panic now evident in its movement.

It didn’t get the chance.

Aiden leaped high, his arm morphing midair into the thick, monstrous limb of a man-gorilla beast. With a furious roar, he brought it down like a hammer onto the creature’s back. The blow cracked the beast’s tough carapace like brittle glass, a sound like splintering stone echoing through the field.

The beast shrieked louder, flailing its remaining tails—one red, the other yellow—towards Aiden in a frenzied attack. But he was too fast. He dodged each strike with fluid grace, weaving through them like a ghost, then retaliated again and again with brutal force.

Finally, with a thunderous boom, the monster’s massive body collapsed, lifeless, onto the battlefield. Dust and blood erupted into the air.

Aiden stood atop its corpse, his expression unreadable.

Though the creature hadn’t managed to land a single blow on him, Aiden was honestly surprised by how long the fight had taken. Several seconds—maybe more than five minute—but enough to reveal one terrifying truth:

"This wasn’t a B-rank or C-rank beast..." he thought grimly.

"...This thing was low A-rank."

The realization hit him like a thunderclap. Just where were they finding all these high-tier beasts? And worse—how had they managed to suppress and unleash them like this?

His eyes turned to the fallen hero nearby—the one he had rushed in to save.

Too late.

Aiden’s jaw tightened. He growled under his breath, then turned toward the battlefield.

And what he saw made his blood run cold.

More were coming.

From the fog, a new horde approached—dozens of the same species of three-tailed beasts, each with differently colored tails. Some had crimson, others blue, green, gold... and their auras pulsed with volatile elemental power.

Aiden clenched his fists, understanding dawning like a curse. "Their tails... they represent the elements they control," he thoughts.

His gaze shifted to the red vanguard, who still hadn’t moved.

Then back to the nightmare descending upon them.

"So this was their plan all along..." he growled.

It was a trap.

A brilliant one.

This wasn’t just another beast wave. These were specially bred, high-intelligence, element-wielding monsters. And worse—there were no more one-tailed scorpion beasts among them.

Every creature now had two tails or more.

And that meant...

"They’ve been hiding their true strength," Aiden muttered bitterly. "Damn it..."

He wasn’t worried about himself. Nor Han. Not even the elite members of the strike team. But the civilians... the healers... the ordinary soldiers behind the lines?

They would be slaughtered.

The new wave wasn’t just larger. It was stronger. Faster. Smarter. Tougher.

And worst of all—many of them had the ability to wield elemental energy.

That was like giving each beast two skills.

Aiden closed his eyes. A flicker of dangerous intent crossed his face.

Then he smiled coldly.

"You damn cursed bastards really know how to play dirty," he muttered.

He stepped forward.

Each step twisted his form further—his body responding to the call of battle and blood. His hair lengthened, becoming wild. His teeth sharpened into fangs. Fingers lengthened into pitch-black talons. Two large, bat-like wings tore through his back, unfurling with a rush of dark wind. A single, smooth obsidian horn emerged from his forehead. His legs reshaped—longer, leaner, built for speed and destruction.

His eyes narrowed into deadly slits as he stared at the oncoming army.

"Since you want to play dirty..." he said with a grin, his voice no longer entirely human.

"...Then I’ll play along too."
