CHAPTER 368: CHAPTER 381: INQUIRING ABOUT THE PAST

At noon, during break, Mabel Quinn was looking online for recommendations from Alice Conley about which cake shop in J City had the best cake flavors. Alice Conley, somewhat of a foodie, naturally had more insight in this area.

"Didn’t you say you used to work in a cake shop and you’re not that interested in cakes anymore? Why are you suddenly interested in eating cake again?" Alice asked.

"It’s Kyle Kinston’s birthday coming up. I want to buy a nice cake for his birthday. I’m concerned that regular brand cakes wouldn’t impress him, but I’m not familiar with those higher-end brands," Mabel explained.

"Kyle Kinston’s birthday, huh," Alice murmured, inexplicably reminded of Dorian Howards’ birthday, which was only a couple of months away.

Good heavens, why was she thinking of Dorian again?! Alice quickly shook her head and continued typing to chat with Mabel, "I do know of a cake shop brand that’s been featured in magazines. There’s only one store in J City, and it’s quite pricey. I bought a small piece there once, and it tasted really good, unlike anything from a regular cake shop." But that small piece alone cost her 200 bucks, which pained her immensely.

Alice then sent the cake shop’s website and address in J City to Mabel.

Seeing the address, Mabel noted that although it was a bit far from the Corporation, it was on her route back to Kyle’s residence, so she could stop by after work.

She then browsed the cake shop’s website, looking at the array of cake photos. Mabel couldn’t help but start thinking about how she should arrange Kyle’s birthday. After all, it’s his first birthday since they met, and she wanted to prepare well, to surprise him and make it a beautiful memory for both of them.

In the villa, Daniel Harris looked at his mother, Jasmine, in front of him, feeling a bit dazed. Back then, due to his father’s affair, his mother left in a fit of anger while pregnant, and after his birth, even though his eyesight had issues, she never returned to the Harris Family. Instead, she chose to raise him alone. During that time, life was tough for him and his mother. Later, when his father found them, he only heard from some elders in the Harris Family that his father apparently knelt in front of his mother for a long time before she agreed to return to the Harris Family with him.

But even though she nominally returned to the Harris Family, his mother preferred to live alone in the villa instead of moving back to the old Harris household, only allowing his father to stay over for a few days each month.

His mother was stubborn; once she made up her mind, it was hard to change it.

"Are your eyes any better? You were hospitalized a while ago and didn’t even tell me." Jasmine said, with a hint of reproach.

"I just didn’t want you to worry, Mom," Daniel replied.

Jasmine smiled, "Why did you think of coming over today?"

"Just to see you, Mom, and also..." Daniel paused, a hint of hesitation in his expression, "I wanted to ask you something."

It was rare for Jasmine to see such hesitation on her son’s face, and she became curious, "Oh, then tell me, what do you want to ask?"

"Back then in Drumbeat Village, when you were working away, you left me in the care of the Yowell Family. Later, when I went to say goodbye to ’Grace,’ did you see what ’Grace’ looked like?"
