CHAPTER 41: CHAPTER 41 WILL IT LET ME SURVIVE?

The female doctor was startled, feeling an abrupt chill spreading throughout her body.

Mabel Quinn arrived at the blood test area, and before the nurse drew her blood, she couldn’t help but say, "Nurse, please be gentle."

"Don’t worry, it won’t hurt much. We are all experienced," the nurse said.

However, after her blood was drawn, Mabel still grimaced, once again missing her unused pregnancy test kit. Using the pregnancy test kit was so much better, painless and stress-free.

"Just for a little blood draw, is it really worth scrunching up your face like that?" Kyle Kinston glanced at her face, nearly twisted into a knot, finding it a bit hard to understand. In his view, the nurse’s technique wasn’t bad, yet her expression seemed as if she had undergone some tremendous torture instead of just losing two vials of blood.

"You weren’t the one getting your blood drawn, of course it doesn’t hurt for you," Mabel retorted.

He took her arm, examining the spot where the needle had already stopped bleeding, leaving only a tiny hole, indicating where it had been pricked.

His fingers brushed over the needle site, and she couldn’t help but exclaim, "Hey, be gentle, it still hurts." She was naturally more sensitive to pain and would avoid shots whenever possible.

"Complaining about this kind of pain — is that really all you’ve got?" he said. Compared to the pain he felt during the Full Moon, her discomfort was nothing. "Do you know what real pain feels like?"

"What?"

"There’s a kind of pain that feels like millions of needles stabbing into your body, or like sharp blades slicing through your flesh, burning your blood, whipping your nerves, with every inch of your body in agony. This kind of pain permeates your blood and seeps into your bones."

She was horrified by his words. "Don’t make it sound so terrifying. If such pain really existed, wouldn’t a person have died from it long ago?"

Kyle smiled faintly, with an inexplicable mockery, "Exactly, even if you could survive such pain, how many times could you endure it, and for how long?" Even though the Kinston Family was full of extraordinarily talented individuals throughout its generations, if they couldn’t find their lifeline, they would only wear down their will in such agony until they chose suicide.

In the Kinston Family, those unable to find their lifeline never lived past 45.

He had originally thought he couldn’t escape this fate either, but unexpectedly, he met her upon arriving in J City — his lifeline!

"Will you let me live?" he asked softly, lightly brushing aside a strand of her hair, gently rubbing it with his fingertip.

Mabel was stunned, "I... I don’t understand what you mean by that." What did he mean by asking if she would let him live? The one who could truly control life and death should be him, right?

"You don’t need to understand, just answer. Will you let me live?" he asked again, his eyes fixed on hers.

She felt a sudden dryness in her mouth, and her entire mind seemed as if it was being drawn in by those deep, dark eyes of his.

"I..." She couldn’t help but lick her lips, "If I have the ability, of course, I would let you live."

He chuckled softly and gently tucked the strand of her hair behind her ear. "Mabel Quinn, don’t forget what you said today. If one day you can’t keep your promise, I will ensure you suffer eternal damnation."
