CHAPTER 588: CHAPTER 612: THE KINSTON FAMILY HE SPEAKS OF
Mabel Quinn looked thoughtfully at her friend. In the evening, when Kyle Kinston returned, he asked Mabel, "Did Dorian have a fight with Alice Conley?"
"What makes you say that?" Mabel asked.
"I bumped into him today, and he seemed like he was about to explode. His secretary also mentioned that his mood hasn’t been great these days, and some of the higher-ups at his Corporation have been yelled at quite a bit," Kyle said.
"Alice didn’t mention any argument, but it seems her mood hasn’t been great recently either," Mabel replied.
Kyle smiled wryly, "Then it seems there’s really a problem." In a way, the fact that Alice Conley could affect Dorian Howards’ mood so much was itself quite an achievement.
"Do you think the Howards Family will really oppose them? I feel if the Howards Family agreed, maybe Alice wouldn’t resist Dorian so much," Mabel said. "It’s a pity for people who clearly have feelings for each other to be separated because of family opposition."
"Dorian’s father would likely be reasonable, but his mother tends to be quite stubborn," Kyle pondered aloud. "Back when we were in Falling City, as far as I know, his mother had a dossier of all the famous ladies in the city. I guess she wanted to find a satisfactory daughter-in-law."
"Does that mean there’s no hope for Alice?" Mabel asked.
Kyle chuckled, "That depends on how much Dorian loves your friend, and on Alice Conley’s own intentions."
Indeed, destiny still requires personal striving! Mabel then thought about her situation, and looking at Kyle, she asked, "Then... do you think that if your family’s elders were still around, they would agree to our marriage?" Compared to Alice Conley, Mabel felt she was lucky because the Kinston Family’s elders had never troubled her.
Yet at the same time, her luck was built on his misfortune, because now, the only one left in the Kinston Family was him.
"They would definitely be delighted." Kyle’s gaze unconsciously softened, "In the Kinston Family, we never cared about the other person’s status or background. As long as it’s someone you can spend a lifetime with, that’s what matters."
"Really?" she asked. Could such a prominent family as the Kinston Family truly be so open-minded in this regard?
"My grandfather met my Granny Taylor when he was still a colonel. It was love at first sight, I suppose. And my grandmother was just a street performer back then, living in conditions you could call destitute. Yet, at that time, there was no opposition at all," Kyle said. Occasionally, when his father was lucid at home, he would share stories of his grandparents.
The Kinston Family’s Blood Curse was passed down only to one person in each generation, and only to direct descendants. In my grandfather’s generation, the one who inherited the Blood Curse was his older brother, who unfortunately died at just 35. They say he voluntarily went to the battlefield and in one battle, he piloted a fighter plane directly into the enemy lineup, destroying their arsenal in a kamikaze attack. However, he too ended up with no remains.
Perhaps for the Kinston Family, if they couldn’t find their life’s purpose, then they’d rather choose death, to confront their own lives head-on.
In the Kinston Family, nobility and destitution do not differ by wealth, nor do social ranks distinguish them. Even those in the Kinston Family who didn’t inherit the Blood Curse pursue pure love in their emotions.
