CHAPTER 81: CHAPTER 81: THE INCIDENT IN THE MOURNING HALL

Katie came this time with her journalist boyfriend, Blake Winchester.

Mabel Quinn observed Blake Winchester, dressed in casual clothes, giving off a rather refreshing vibe, resembling a driven young man, completely disconnected from the decadence that Katie had mentioned before. If Katie could find happiness with him, then Mabel felt that her effort was worthwhile.

While she was sizing up the other party, Blake was also observing Mabel Quinn, still finding it hard to believe that the girl in front of him was the one who had helped him so much. It was even his former boss who called him personally, asking him to return to work at the company.

He had asked Katie several times about her friend named Mabel Quinn and what kind of influential connections she had to obtain such a favor from Mr. Kinston.

But Katie was also clueless, only saying it was like a last-ditch effort, seeing Mabel once accompanied by a bodyguard, she wondered if Mabel knew some people in the business world, so she asked for her help, but she never expected that Mabel would really manage to help, and successfully at that.

Once the three sat down, Katie introduced them, and Blake quickly said, "Mabel, I really have to thank you for your help this time."

"Katie and I have been good friends since high school, I’m really happy to have been able to help this time," Mabel replied. "Just call me by my name, no need to be formal."

Blake acknowledged, then asked some details about who Mabel had contacted to get this favor for him.

This time, Mabel was in a bind. She couldn’t very well admit that she had asked Kyle Kinston directly! Even if she did say so, chances were Blake wouldn’t believe her.

"I know someone who happens to work closely with Mr. Kinston," Mabel said vaguely, casually borrowing Caleb’s presence. It wasn’t really a lie; she did know Caleb.

Katie and Blake seemed to have a sudden realization.

"Your friend sure is resourceful, must be well connected with Mr. Kinston, probably destined for great things," Blake remarked.

Mabel felt a bit embarrassed.

The three of them moved on to other topics, but eventually the conversation circled back to Kyle Kinston. "If I had known, I wouldn’t have gathered so much hidden information about the Kinston Family. Some of it I even paid for, not realizing Kyle Kinston was so influential and ruthless in his actions," Blake said.

"What kind of secret information would be worth buying?" Katie asked curiously.

Mabel’s curiosity was also piqued.

"I can tell you, but you must keep it between us," Blake said, lowering his voice as the other two nodded. "Kyle Kinston’s records before he was nine years old always listed his father as unknown, and before then, he had taken his mother’s surname, living in K City until his father brought him back to Falling City at nine."

Aside from the unknown father part, Mabel had heard the rest from Kyle Kinston’s side. However, Blake’s next words left her dumbfounded.

"It’s said that on the day of Kyle’s mother’s planned cremation, his father, Easton Kinston, unexpectedly surrounded the funeral parlor with people, forcibly stopping the cremation and stayed inside the memorial hall with Kyle’s mother’s body for an entire day and night. The hall was secured and guarded at that time, so no one knows what transpired during that day and night, but it led to much speculation. After that, there were rumors that Easton’s sanity was no longer stable."
