Orion sighed softly. "Seems fate enjoys its jokes today."
His gaze shifted briefly toward Daenys, assessing her once before looking back at Selene.
"We’ll talk about that later," he said, tone final.
Selene nodded once.
Orion’s expression remained calm, but his mind was already moving; he had decided to help Irelle.
He pointed at Irelle.
"Mind telling me what happened between you three?" Orion asked Selene.
Selene tilted her head, perplexed as to the relationship between Orion and the girl, but she swiftly banished the thought; it wasn’t her place to ask.
"She and two other boys ambushed us, we defeated them and took their sigil stones, but she managed to escape and we’ve been chasing her for almost ten minutes now." She replied, her tone candid, though one could sense the frustration underneath.
"Ten minutes?" Orion asked.
"Yes, despite her weakness, she’s fast enough to pose a challenge," Selene said with begrudging respect.
Orion sighed.
"Do you necessarily need her sigil stones?" Orion asked, though he himself cringed at the question.
Selene’s eyebrow rose a bit,
"My current position is fine, though I might need to get more stones to maintain it. I’ll be fine if you wish us to spare her." Selene explained.
"Real-" Orion was about to thank her.
"What! No!" Daenys shouted from behind before coming closer.
"Why would we spare her just because he asked?" She said, her eyebrows furrowed.
Selene turned back to her with a frown on her face.
"Do you have a problem with that?" Selene asked with narrowed eyes.
"Yes, I do. They ambushed us and struck first, and now we retaliate, and he’s asking us to just forgive her!" Daenys said, anger on her face.
"Besides, retaliation or not, he has no right to stop us from fighting for a sigil stone. I don’t know who he is to you, and I really don’t care, but I suggest you snap out of whatever’s going on with you." Daenys finished, her eyes gazing into Selene’s without flinching.
Selene’s frown disappeared, her expression turning placid and stoic.
"I don’t believe I finished my introduction earlier. I’m Selene Chronos, daughter of Dorian and Gael Chronos, and my sole duty is to serve Orion Chronos. That is who I am."
"If the young master wants her to be spared, then she will be spared. I will oppose any contradictions or actions against said request. It is my duty after all. I care not if you know who he is or not; his word stands." Selene finished her tone final and her mana flared.
Orion’s eyes widened, goose bumps forming on his skin. He was confused and perplexed as to where such devotion arose from.
’Is this what Caelum thinks, too?’ Orion thought.
"Whoa." Margaret couldn’t help but exclaim. This was premium drama in her eyes.
"Is that so?" Daenys asked again, her mana flaring in response.
"I don’t believe I stuttered," Selene replied without missing a beat.
The tension in the air thickened; one could tell a fight would erupt soon if not controlled.
"Alright, that’s enough, Selene," Orion said with a sigh.
"I know you don’t mind sparing her, but it seems your teammate does. It would be unreasonable to just expect her to cooperate." Orion said, standing up and putting a hand on her shoulder.
"How about this?"
"Irelle, how many points are on your sigil stone?" Orion asked.
At this point, Irelle had already managed to put herself back together, though her eyes still showed the tiredness deep within her. She had witnessed the whole exchange between Selene and Daenys, her mind wondering who exactly this boy was, enough to turn those two monsters against each other.
She hesitated for a second, her eyes wary, wondering what Orion was going to do. She was completely at their mercy after all. One word from Orion and she would be done.
"509", she said, eventually revealing the truth. If Orion wanted her stone, there was nothing she could do.
"Good. So I’ll personally hunt sigil stones worth about 600 points for you and your partner. I believe that should satisfy everybody." He said with an amicable expression.
All except Daenys couldn’t believe their ears, their eyes widening. He was personally going to get all the points for this girl.
Selene and Margaret both turned their gazes to Irelle, wondering what exactly the girl had done for Orion to resort to this.
Orion noticed this.
"Don’t look at her like that, I’m not that familiar with her, she just owes me three favours, and it’d be a shame for it to just go to waste now, of course, now it’s ten," Orion said, announcing the last part to Irelle, who nodded immediately.
Their minds were still preoccupied when they heard Daenys’ voice again.
"I refuse." She said, her heterochrome eyes narrowed and placid.
"What!" Margaret couldn’t help but blurt out.
"I refuse the offer. I don’t want the points. I can make those whenever I want. I want her. She should face the consequence of her actions." Daenys said with conviction.
"Haa.." Margaret couldn’t help but sigh.
’What an idiot,’ she thought, already envisioning how this would go.
Selene’s sharp gaze turned back to Daenys, her mouth opening to speak.
"What’s your name?" Orion interrupted her by asking.
"What’s yours. It’s com-"
"Orion." He replied, interrupting her.
"Oh, you’re first. That explains your confidence." She said with a chuckle.
Selene’s fists tightened, frustration simmering within her.
"Mind if I know what explains your confidence?" Orion asked with a smile.
"My strength, of course." She replied with a grin.
"My name’s Daenys, and rank or not, I know I’m the strongest in this trial, so unless you want to be mowed down, I suggest you move."
"If her sigil stone is what I want, her sigil stone is what I’ll get."
