Endless Horde: Through the Eyes of a Godking
Chapter 758: Odin’s Story, Council’s Generosity
CHAPTER 758: ODIN’S STORY, COUNCIL’S GENEROSITY
--
"It’s Odin, isn’t it?"
Cedric’s eyes snapped to Nicholas, who was now wearing an expression that screamed ’not again’ or ’I’m tired of this shit.’
"Oh, it seems like it really was that lunatic Odin."
"Yeah, that’s something he would do."
"I told you guys, that dude had always been a weirdo."
And it seems that it wasn’t just Nicholas who recognized the name. The rest of the councillors also knew who Odin was, and from the way they talked about him, it’s clear he didn’t leave a good impression.
"Dear Councillors, may I know more about him? I’m not really looking for revenge; I just want to understand," Cedric politely requested.
He was being honest when he said that he’s not out for revenge. He just wanted to know more about his...their supposed creator.
"Well, considering that you’re the aggrieved party here, I suppose we can show you. You’re more than qualified, honestly," one councillor said.
Then, a system window flashed before Cedric’s eyes. It’s Odin’s profile.
It didn’t just contain his identity and origins; it also had a compilation of his activities, both public and private.
**
Name: Alfather Odin
Age: 25,000+
Race: Human

Allegiance: Dark Star Domain/Alfather Clan
Life Evolution Realm: Late Stage Heavenly Venerate

**
Odin hails from the famed, yet now extinct, Alfather Clan, who were once one of the leading clans of the Dark Star Domain.
He was considered a prodigy at birth and was the heir apparent to the role of the Clan Leader. It was also said that his birth was accompanied by a heavenly phenomenon, which was a sign and a manifestation of his resplendent future.
The Alfather Clan celebrated his birth, even going as far as having a grand banquet spanning across the entire domain to show him off.
Alas, while his clan celebrated his birth, their enemies feared his potential and began scheming behind the scenes.
Odin was raised believing that he was one of a kind. He was arrogant, selfish, and self-serving and demanded only the best for himself. He was raised this way because the clan believed that their faith would push Odin to grow to his full potential and take the clan to heights they’d never seen before.
What they didn’t expect was that Odin’s mentality was at a completely different wavelength. Odin never cared about his clan. To him, they’re his servants, born and raised to do his bidding. His mere presence was already a great blessing and grace to them. He never felt obligated nor tied to them, and he wouldn’t shed a tear even if they were to all die.
And die they certainly did.
The enemies that the Alfather Clan accumulated throughout their history all banded together to launch an attack. Everybody, regardless of age or gender, was killed. Of course, their main target was Odin, for he was their sole hope.
And they succeeded. They not only wiped out the Alfather Clan, they also killed Odin.
Or so they thought.
Odin did die, but only for a brief moment. It’s the Clan Leader who barely survived; he dragged his body close to Odin and used his remaining strength to revive him, and he succeeded.
However, Odin wasn’t completely restored. His brief death and incomplete restoration caused his talent and luck to severely plummet.
Furthermore, instead of being thankful, Odin was actually resentful that the Alfather Patriarch didn’t restore him completely.
After that, Odin went into hiding. He wanted revenge, not for the clan, but for himself. He could never forgive those people who killed him and turned him mediocre.
Odin learned how to scheme, to steal, and to get what he wants through whatever means possible. He healed himself, but not completely...never completely. He could never regain everything he lost on his first death. He’s never the same person then.
He was also successful in his revenge. He flew under the radar long enough to plan for everything, and when he struck, he wiped them all out at once. He didn’t show even an ounce of mercy.
Odin didn’t kill them all, though. He kept some and turned them into slaves and subjects for his experiments.
He’s never been satisfied with his resurrection. He wanted to regain everything that he had lost, and because of his twisted mentality, he was willing to go to extreme lengths just to get what he wanted.
This was the real origin behind his devious experiments. And over time, it only got worse.
Odin was unstoppable, not because he was strong, but because he was a good schemer. Nobody knew about his experiments. If someone somehow manages to learn the truth, Odin will find them and kill them without giving himself away.
He’s been scheming for thousands of years, which was enough to give him sufficient cover for his operations. That’s how he’s able to fly under the radar.
Odin could’ve kept going; alas, his greed got the best of him. He targeted the precious wife of an ex-councillor. He was aware that he was taking a massive risk by doing this, but he did it anyway, and that was his most fatal mistake.
Touching the family of that ex-councillor put him under direct surveillance. And with the full support of the Human Council, everything that Odin worked so hard to hide was forcibly exposed.
This led to him being branded as a criminal, forcing him to flee for the rest of his life.
Odin was forced to enter the Forbidden Zone, and normally, that would’ve been enough to declare his death because everybody knows that it’s impossible for anybody to get out of there. But the wrath of the ex-councillor for Odin’s transgressions was immense and consuming.
He demanded to see Odin’s corpse, even if it meant forcing people to enter the forbidden zone to find it.
Luckily, before things got extreme, Odin miraculously exited the forbidden zone and was captured and presented before the ex-councillor.
What the ex-councillor did to Odin was omitted from the records, but anybody who read this far could easily imagine what, and it’s far from pretty.
Odin managed to escape from his clutches, though. He was able to roam free for a while before dying miserably through a series of relentless pursuits. It was speculated that this was done on purpose by the ex-councillor, but there’s no proof of it.
The poor guy has been dead for about a million years now, which also coincides with the time frame the Void Slave indicated to Cedric.
The only reason why he’s still remembered, although unpleasantly, by the current councillors is because, as horrible as his experiments were, he did discover some useful things that solved some problems for the Human Council.
His discoveries are compiled and used even to this day, and his name still occasionally comes up in a conversation or two from time to time.
**
Cedric sighed after dismissing the system window.
Had he been harboring any thoughts of vengeance, all of it would’ve had no outlet after reading the profile just now.
Odin’s been dead for a long time. Getting revenge for what he did no longer held any meaning. Fortunately, Cedric never really cared too much about the guy.
He’s merely curious, that’s all. And now, that curiosity has been sated.
"Thank you for clarifying my doubts and curiosities, dear councillors." Cedric didn’t forget to thank them to show manners.
"To think that you happened to be one of his unfortunate experiments. Fate really has a wicked sense of humor, doesn’t it?"
"Indeed." Cedric couldn’t help but agree.
"Odin was one nasty piece of work, but his madness did bring us benefit; that’s why his name still appears on the record of honors."
"We would put you under his achievements, but I don’t think that you’d agree to that. Furthermore, it’s a bad idea because that might inspire some idiots out there, so we won’t."
"As per your request..." Nicholas paused to deliberate for a bit. "...we can grant it, but are you really certain that you can take your people out of the Forbidden Zone safely?"
"Yes, Your Excellency," Cedric affirmatively replied, his tone confident and certain.
"Very well." Nicholas adjusted his seating position before making his decision.
"In light of your achievements and as a show of good will, we of the Human Council bestow upon you the Rising Sun Domain. You shall serve as its first Sector Lord."
"The title of the Sector Lord grants you many privileges and also responsibilities. You will be held accountable for your decisions regarding your domain."
"But knowing that you and your people needed time to adjust to your new world, we will give you a grace period of 50,000 years to prepare and settle down your people before you are expected to give tribute to the council."
"During these 100,000 years, your domain will be under the direct and strict protection of the Human Council."
"Does this satisfy you, Dawnbringer?"
Cedric was dumbfounded at first. But he recovered quickly and hurriedly said,
"Yes, Dear Councillors, I am very grateful for your generosity."
"And so it shall be."
Bang!
Just like that, the decision was finalized.
