CHAPTER 170: SHADOWS STRIKE

As Caroline received the authority token from Leonard, she promptly excused herself to make haste.

Even though she had given an estimated time of 3 hours.

She still needed to do multiple extensive research and reverse-engineer the Wrathbane Extract’s properties.

Although it was partially Leonard’s command, the main reason was that she couldn’t allow such substances to be spread around and cause mayhem.

She was used to the desolate and dystopian aspect of Velastra, but the other cities were different. It wasn’t lawless, and nobody would dare to be so openly corrupted.

"Master, can she really reverse-engineer and find a cure within 3 hours?" Elise approached Leonard and asked. She had heard of the famous Researcher Caroline before, but she had never seen her actions personally.

In contrast, she had witnessed the power of the Wrathbane Extract before.

"There was a time when someone from the Baldwin Family had brought over a test subject for Marquis Darius to see. The test subject twisted in a deformed state and ended up dead in less than 3 minutes." She revealed.

"Hoh, why didn’t you mention it previously?" Leonard raised an eyebrow.

Elise lowered her head in shame. Her memories weren’t that great, especially when she only wanted to seek ways to survive.

The memories only came up when she was graced with the Wrathbane Extract’s sight.

"Please forgive me, Master. I didn’t mean to conceal anything from you." She pursed her lips and was about to kneel down.

However, she didn’t get the chance to do so when Leonard held her arm.

"Memories are a tricky part of the brain. We’re not some robots who could store data without forgetting it unless erased from the program." He explained.

"Robots?"

Elise tilted her head sideways. She was unfamiliar with the term and wondered if it was a type of magic.

’Right, this world doesn’t have this kind of technology.’ Leonard had forgotten this aspect. Although there was magic technology and an advanced architectural style, it was still fundamentally different from his old world.

There was no electronic device through which one could browse the web on the internet.

"Don’t worry about it." Leonard smiled lightly. "What I mean is that we’re only human. There were bound to be things where we forgot and required a sudden action to recall them."

"Yes, Master." Elise was still somewhat confused, but she knew she had been pardoned. That was enough for her.

"Okay, try to tell me more about your time with the Marquis. It might be painful, but I wish to learn more about him." Leonard asked.

As much as he didn’t want to pry open their trauma, it was a necessity if he planned on sweeping these vermin in one go.

Elise understood what Leonard intended to do. ’The Master wishes to make a move against the Marquis.’

She clenched her fist and readily offered to do her best to explain everything from start to finish.

Nadia also vowed to speak of her side of the story as well.

They didn’t know which information was useful or useless to Leonard, so they might as well use this time to talk. At the very least, they didn’t have to worry about being disturbed in the Presidential Suite.

While the trio spent their time discussing, the guards outside the suite naturally had their mindset tweaked to a lovely bed scene.

Why else would the Crown Prince dismiss so many people and leave with two beautiful women?

As they believed themselves to have understood the Crown Prince’s vigor, outside the hotel, things had finally taken a drastic turn.

"Shadows, start raiding all the critical points." Logan hid in the dark and ordered the rest in the Veil Division to start the killing spree.

"Yes, Leader!" The Shadows received the command and teleported straight into the enemy’s stronghold.

In the blink of an eye, more than half of the defending people were killed without even knowing what had hit them.

Nevertheless, the death of so many had inadvertently caused a commotion.

After all, each of the defenders had their blood dropped into a special device that would alert the commander of their death. This way, even if someone attempted to do a stealth assassination, it would be futile.

"Intruders! All men, raise your weapons and confront them!"

A broadcast was quickly made in the stronghold itself.

"They really aren’t your common enemies." Logan’s eyes narrowed in a cold light. The more well-prepared and equipped their enemy was, the greater the importance the place held.

"Forget about stealth, Shadows. It’s time to let them know who the real boss of Velastra is." Logan instructed and personally made a move as well.

He blinked away from the area and arrived at the person who made the broadcast to alert everyone else.

"You—How dare you attack our base!" The person met Logan, whose face and body were completely covered. They were agitated and anxious, but still made sure to put on a tough front.

"Don’t you know who is behind this place? Can you handle the consequences for invading us amidst the ongoing crisis—"

They didn’t even get to finish their remarks when Logan had effectively sliced the person’s neck in a clean and swift slash.

"You talked too much." Logan sheathed his sword and turned around. A small ’thud’ sound was created as the person collapsed to the ground without any sign of life.

Their expression still depicted that of an arrogant face, clearly having failed to anticipate that their own death would be so swift.

Sometime later, one of the Shadows appeared behind Logan and reported.

"All 34 people in the stronghold have been killed!"

"Good, start clearing up the mess and have a few men wait for the Ward Division to take over. We’re to move to the next stronghold."

The Shadow adhered to the command and relayed their findings. "There are some women who have been captured and detained in a room. What do we do with them?"

"There is such a situation?" Logan raised an eyebrow.

"Yes, from their attire, we believe they were victims of the outbreak, and these people took advantage of the fact and kidnapped them."

"Were they all insulted?"

"We were lucky and arrived in a timely manner. One of them wanted to make a move, but was slain by us."
