Endless World: The Rise of Leonard Lawson
Chapter 71: Invitation To The Banquet
CHAPTER 71: INVITATION TO THE BANQUET
Shortly after the commotion, the people that made the killing retreated in a swift manner.
They came and disappeared like the passing wind. To make matters worse was the fact that not a single guard had come forth to capture any of the killers.
The crowd was also standing in their position, with some even commenting about the death sentence being a pity. They weren’t expressing it out of sympathy, but rather, out of selfish desire.
"Sigh, she was a virgin and rarely used. When I patronized the Enchanted Oasis, I was going to call for her."
"You don’t say? I saw her features and that mouth of hers. It’s a perfect fit for my thing, you know."
"Hmph, this slut really dies too easily. To think she was using some cheap perfume and causing us ladies to have our reputations ruined. What if other men think we also use such cheap items?"
While the men were filled with lust in their commentary, the women were filled with disdain about Meagan’s cosmetic items that might degrade them as a whole.
Needless to say, neither of them paid much attention to Meagan’s death.
Only Mirelle openly expressed her anger at Wesley, but dared not make any moves. From their first bout, even though she was caught off-guard initially, she still failed to deflect Wesley’s pressure.
’This person is at the very least on par with Spencer.’ Mirelle deduced silently.
When Wesley noticed Mirelle’s furious face directed at him, he simply smiled lightly in response. It was as if he couldn’t be bothered with her emotions.
As for Leonard, his eyes stared at Meagan’s corpse. The back of her body was still leaking fresh blood, yet her eyes seemed to show signs of relief.
’A sense of relief from death... this city is really something else.’ Leonard regulated his internal emotions to avoid being caught.
At this moment, he was somewhat envious of Mirelle, who could openly express her emotions without any worries.
Just when things seemed to have died down, Owen arrived at the scene with a drunkard old man.
"Where are you taking me to? I still need to place more bets to win a fortune."
Owen ignored the drunken old man’s words and merely tossed him to the center of the scene.
"Manager Darren, I have retrieved the whore’s father," Owen reported. He was about to continue the report until he saw Darren shifting his eyes to the side discreetly. Confused by the situation, Owen finally understood the implication when he followed the area that Darren seemed to be signaling.
His expression underwent a great change white when he spotted Wesley’s presence. He hurriedly bowed in respect toward Wesley. "Lowly Enchanted Oasis’ guard, Owen, hereby greets the Lord."
Wesley held an indifferent expression.
Instead, he glanced at the drunkard, who seemed to be still yapping nonsensical words in an intoxicated state. "This is the whore’s father, huh?"
"Yes, Lord Wesley. This drunkard is named Butch, a formal engineer who was forced to resign after accumulating a large amount of gambling debts." Owen responded and relayed Butch’s background.
Butch was originally earning a hefty wage as an engineer. He had a wife and a daughter, a somewhat happy family. But due to his gambling habits, he incurred far too much debt, prompting their beautiful family to be shattered like glass.
The wife had enough and fled with another wealthy merchant, leaving their daughter alone.
In devastation and depression from learning the news, Butch went deeper into the hellhole and ultimately sold her daughter to Enchanted Oasis to continue his gambling habit.
"Who is a drunkard and a gambler?" Butch’s face flushed in redness from a mixture of anger and alcohol influence.
"I’ll have you know. Once I win big, my wife will return to me and that daughter of mine will be redeemed. I bet she’s doing great though. I sold her to a pleasure house that will feed and dress her well." He continued, seemingly justifying his act.
"How unsightly." Wesley shook his head and lost all interest in this drunkard.
With his interest lost, he then turned to Leonard and smiled, "Mr. Vincent is new to the city, so allow me to extend an invitation to you for an upcoming banquet. The Crown Prince of Aldros has arrived at the city, so fellow merchants in the Guild are going to conduct an advance banquet to discuss how to ensure the Crown Prince enjoys his stay."
Once he finished his words, Wesley retrieved a gold envelope and extended it to Leonard.
The gold envelope was laced with gold and pieces of jewelry, emphasizing its luxuriousness.
Leonard calmly accepted the envelope and responded, "I shall be there, Lord Wesley."
"Good, this incident is over now. I’ll have to excuse myself." Wesley laughed and proceeded to walk away.
Abel quickly followed behind Wesley like a good lap dog.
The crowd also began to disperse once the drama had ended in a somewhat satisfactory outcome for them.
Meanwhile, Manager Darren approached Leonard alongside Owen. The former apologized once again and extended a card for Leonard.
"Mr. Vincent, our Enchanted Oasis, truly regrets about today’s incident. This is a VIP card, and the holder receives a 50% discount whenever they come to patronize the Enchanted Oasis." Darren explained before whispering, "With the card, one can also get advance sneak preview and even bid or purchase in advance of the woman for services."
Leonard held the card in silence as the two promptly excused themselves.
In the blink of an eye, the street seemed to have returned to normal, almost as if nothing major had occurred.
"Shall we resume the tour, Sir?" Jeffrey, who had been hiding in the background, approached him and inquired softly.
Before Leonard could get a response, someone had crawled toward him, their expression seemed to be in a crazed state.
"Kind Sir, can I have some money? I promise to return it to you once I win big." Butch held a wide smile on his face when begging.
Leonard’s eyes turned rather cold. "Money? Sure, I’ll give you something valuable."
"Thank you, Kind Sir—"
WHISH!
Butch’s eyes widened upon feeling a sharp pain on his chest. He lowered his head slightly and noticed a large gap was present. He tried to touch his chest, but his hand simply phased through while it got drenched in his blood.
"Huh? I see the color red..." He murmured, his gaze staring at his bloody hand.
Soon, Butch’s eyes lost color as he collapsed to the ground, succumbing to his death.
