CHAPTER 91: DETECTION FORMATION

Leonard looked at the sullen Mirelle with an indifferent expression.

He had witnessed more tragedy than this. But it would be a lie to say he wasn’t affected by the situation.

It was just that he couldn’t afford to show any emotion or express his desire on the surface.

When he read the report from Logan, he was nearly enraged by the result.

After all, he had also mistakenly believed Butch to be an unredeemable bastard of a father who deserved to die.

However, reality often proved a different outcome and situation.

Prior to Butch’s unemployment, he was actually a hard-working father who had taken care of Meagan by himself.

His wife died young, leaving him all alone. Yet he never faltered and continued to provide for Meagan.

Unfortunately, his education was low, and he was manaless. After the passage of time, Meagan grew up young and beautiful, until the said disaster struck.

Unable to handle the pressure and watching his daughter suffer with him in the slum, Butch made the decision to sell her to a pleasure house, hoping that she could live well.

Of course, the ideology in that mindset had already been twisted beyond common sense.

"Although Meagan fled from the pleasure house, records from multiple parties show that she was willing to be sold by her father. It wasn’t forced by Butch or anything. It was just a shame that the money they received was hammered down by Manager Darren." Leonard ignored Mirelle’s mental breakdown and continued.

Mirelle’s fists were clenching tightly in response. She was especially infuriated when she realized the money they received was hammered down by Manager Darren.

’Manager Darren... such a person does not deserve to live well.’ She hissed silently.

Meanwhile, next to Mirelle was Claudia. She had heard everything from start to finish.

The colors in her eyes had long darkened, a clear visual depiction that killing desire had risen from within her.

’My goal is done now,’ Leonard stretched his neck when he detected Claudia’s micro change. He didn’t reveal those for Mirelle, but for Claudia to listen in.

To eradicate the corruption in Velastra, one must start somewhere.

And what better way was there aside from having Claudia commit a mass killing of deserving individuals?

A cataclysm was what he would call it.

Despite calling it as such, Leonard knew he was equally guilty of the rottingness.

After all, he could have prevented Meagan’s death had he not been cautious and wary of Wesley Livingstone.

Life was just like this. It never went on a smooth path. Instead, it tended to have many ups and downs, just like a rollercoaster.

And this incident happened to be one of the numerous downs that Leonard must live with. There was also no such thing as going back to the past or "if" possibilities.

Thus, he wouldn’t ponder about a circumstance such as maybe if he had just remained put, Meagan would have just been forced to sleep with someone she despised, but at the very least, she would retain her life. Such a fictitious outcome could go both ways because Meagan might still choose to end her life over losing her chastity.

"You should get up now, Relle," Leonard warned softly. "You’re making quite the scene, and people might think I’m bullying my hired bodyguard."

A few moments later, Mirelle nodded and snapped herself out of the shock she received from the sudden revelation. The deed was done already, and nothing could change the outcome.

Luckily, not many people actually cared about Mirelle falling to the ground. Some might have glanced over at them briefly, but the majority of the people were rushing to the Merchant Guild and completing their verification to enter.

The verification was relatively advanced and simple.

All they needed to do was walk through a detection formation that would check if anything was amiss, including disguises or hidden weapons.

It was precisely because of this issue that prompted Leonard to stall outside.

Not only was he under disguise, but he also held numerous hidden weapons that he had yet to show or tell to anyone. Hidden weapons were meant to stay concealed until the time was ripe. Therefore, he refrained from exposing them unless the situation was dire.

"Can your disguise bypass those formations?" Leonard approached Caroline and asked in a low but subtle tone.

Caroline shook her head in response. "Those detection formations are modified by a fellow researcher. It is designed to nullify any active spells, even if one had concealment items or spells."

"You researchers are really starting to get on my nerves..." Leonard clicked his tongue. He found them to be more of a nuisance than helpful at this particular moment.

Why was there so much security?

His palace was breached and incapable of detecting a poison substance, but the Merchant Guild could detect even the slightest usage of magic.

Was the Merchant Guild the actual royalty, whereas his palace was the fake?

Contrary to Leonard’s belief, Caroline made sure to clarify one thing. "The detection formation is still a bit flawed and was kind of rushed by the fellow researcher to gain credit."

"It’s flawed but still functionable enough to undo our disguises, right?"

"Yes, that is correct."

"Then it’s not flawed when it works."

Annoyed and frustrated, Leonard was unsure whether to enter the Merchant Guild or not. That was until his eyes spotted someone familiar: Abel Meyers.

Besides Abel Meyers, there were two other merchants walking alongside him.

"Hoh, to think you encountered such an incident. How unlucky was that?" One of them exclaimed in shock.

"I can’t imagine myself being denied pleasure when I’m in heat in such a manner." Another one shook their head in disbelief.

"You don’t even know how frustrated I become." Abel flashed a bittersweet smile when recalling the incident at Enchanted Oasis. Even now, he wanted to curse at that damnable certified gold merchant.

Unfortunately, the latter was too high in ranking, with even Wesley subtly warning him to drop the matter. There was also the other secret command he placed, only to end up receiving zero news.

"So who was that cursed person who caused you to be tormented by lust?"

"Naturally, it’s the cursed—" Right when Abel was about to name the person, his face quickly turned ashen white as he caught notice of an individual.

An awkward atmosphere swiftly took over as the two of them locked eye contact.
