Entangled in Midnight: Mrs Grant wants a Divorce
Chapter 11: Madam Says She Doesn’t Want You Anymore
CHAPTER 11: CHAPTER 11: MADAM SAYS SHE DOESN’T WANT YOU ANYMORE
"I understand Eleanor. If she said she didn’t do it, then she didn’t do it."
Mia Winslow wanted to argue, but Adrian Grant’s attitude was too firm. She knew that if she continued to insist on her point of view, it would only upset him.
"Adrian, the situation was a bit chaotic at the time. I originally wanted to hold Eleanor’s hand, but she pushed me away. She probably didn’t do it on purpose and might not even remember that she pushed me."
Mia smoothed things over.
Before Adrian Grant could question further, Mia quickly changed the subject, "Adrian, why did you suddenly come today? Are you worried about Eleanor?"
Adrian’s sudden appearance had startled her, but fortunately, she reacted quickly.
Since Adrian and Eleanor got married, he only visited the Winslow Family during the New Year. Now he came because he was concerned for Eleanor?
Could it be... Adrian really has feelings for Eleanor?
How could that be possible?
No way, that’s impossible...
Eleanor is so delicate and aloof. Adrian has disliked her ever since they were young. They hardly saw each other in the three years since their marriage, so there was no way he’d suddenly fall for Eleanor!
Mia’s alarm bells were ringing, and her ankle sprain felt even more painful. She forced a laugh, "But aren’t you and Eleanor about to get a divorce?"
"Who told you that?" Adrian looked up at her, his gaze icy.
"I heard... heard it from Eleanor. And didn’t she have your lawyer contact her today?" Mia couldn’t understand why she saw intense displeasure in Adrian’s eyes.
Mia subtly sowed discord, "Eleanor is somewhat childish and capricious in her feelings. Back in middle school, she was always exchanging love letters with different boys."
Mia was eager for answers, "Adrian, are you and her planning to..."
"No." Adrian stood up, ready to leave, "There’s no plan for divorce. Get some rest."
Mia lay on the hospital bed, dazed, watching his departing figure.
Everyone outside said Adrian liked her.
However, she had never gotten a clear answer from Adrian’s mouth.
-
Charles Rhodes was waiting for Adrian Grant outside the outpatient building.
Adrian got into the car, "Didn’t I ask you to take Eleanor home?"
Charles: "Uh, Madam said she wouldn’t be staying at Azurean Bay. She went back to her own apartment."
"Did she seem angry when you saw her?"
"She did seem quite angry."
"Angry that I was with Mia?"
Adrian recalled Eleanor’s use of the word "disgusting" and his brow furrowed with displeasure.
Charles shook his head, "Madam was angry because I took her car."
Adrian: "..."
Charles thought to himself, Madam said she doesn’t want you anymore.
But he valued his life, so he didn’t say it!
If he were guilty, please dock his bonus, but don’t drag him into the boss and lady boss’s family affairs. It’s too life-shortening!
"President Grant, the board is still waiting. Should we head back now?" Charles checked his watch; it had been two hours since President Grant had stepped out of the board meeting.
Adrian responded with a hum and instructed, "Cancel the shipping contract we planned to give to the Winslow Family."
"Cancel it?" Charles was surprised, "Got it."
That contract was practically a gift from Adrian Grant to Eugene Winslow, his father-in-law. Now he wanted to cancel it... When did the Winslow Family offend him?
"President Grant, there’s one more thing." Charles started the Maybach, "Madam is interning at Aurelian & Partners Law Firm. Aurelian was awarded our Mayfield Tech acquisition case. They’ll commence next week with due diligence and interviews at our company."
— Aurelian & Partners Law Firm is one of the top law firms in the country, hailed as a cradle for top lawyers.
"Are they assigning interns to the case?" Adrian asked offhandedly.
Charles, as the Special Assistant to the President, has an authority equivalent to a department director, making him a part of the executive team. Why would he care about whether an external law firm involved in an acquisition case includes interns?
But being one of the favored ones around the boss, he indeed has some ability to interpret these things.
Special Assistant Rhodes solemnly fabricated, "Given the size of this acquisition case, they will naturally assign interns."
Adrian didn’t ask further, opened WeChat, and transferred a five-figure sum to Jude Winslow.
The internet-addicted youth responded instantly: [Thank you, brother-in-law, for the pocket money! I’ll tip you off next time!]
The person who called Adrian Grant to come to the Winslow Family wasn’t Mia Winslow.
It was Jude Winslow.
Jude’s original words were: Brother-in-law, Eleanor is being bullied to death at my house!
-
Eleanor was suddenly placed into the Mayfield Tech acquisition project team, leaving her in a daze.
The Mayfield Tech acquisition is the largest project the law firm has secured in the past year. The partners place great importance on it, repeatedly selecting team members, and Eleanor was the only one added at the last minute.
"These young girls today rely on a bit of beauty to get by with crooked methods. An intern even getting into this project?" On the way to the client’s company, project manager Albert Sawyer’s tone was sarcastic.
Albert Sawyer, in his early thirties, wore a suit and slicked-back hair every day, always meticulous.
Eleanor looked outside the window, pretending not to hear.
Her school, GPA, and resume are the most outstanding among the interns. Her entry into the project team was personally approved by the senior partner — she has a clear conscience.
Since she wasn’t part of the project team before, Eleanor was unaware of the client’s identity or the project details.
Until the company vehicle stopped under the familiar Grant Group tower, Eleanor suddenly remembered: She’d overheard Adrian Grant on a work call before, regarding Grant Group’s plan to merge with Mayfield Tech!
Grant Group is the client for this project!
If she were to run into Adrian Grant at the company...
"Eleanor, why are you dazing off? Don’t show up at a big company’s headquarters for the first time looking like you’ve never seen the world. It impacts the law firm’s professional image!" Albert Sawyer fired up just seeing this intern.
"I’m sorry." Eleanor lowered her head to apologize, not wanting to argue with him.
The Grant Group is so large, and Adrian Grant, as the busy president, shouldn’t cross paths with her. As for other employees, not to mention employees, even among executives, those who knew what Adrian Grant’s wife looked like could be counted on one hand. She probably wouldn’t meet anyone who recognized her.
Just as this thought crossed her mind, she saw a group of suit-clad people coming out in a grand manner.
At the center, being the focus of all, was none other than Adrian Grant, whom she thought she’d never run into two minutes ago!
Today, Adrian was wearing a custom-made mouse-gray suit with a deep blue tie — a gift she brought him back from her exchange year at the University of Cambridge.
"President Grant, these are the Aurelian & Partners Law Firm project team members. They will begin working on-site at our company today." The employee from Grant Group introduced the two groups, "Lawyer Sawyer, this is our President Grant."
Albert Sawyer beamed with admiration, eagerly wanting to shake hands with Adrian Grant. However, before he could raise his hand, Adrian’s gaze shifted past him to land on Eleanor behind him.
Adrian Grant was looking at Eleanor’s face.
Porcelain-white like jade, the glaring handprint had already faded.
Eleanor, eyes to nose, nose to heart, looked like someone who had never seen the world and didn’t dare meet the big boss’s eyes.
"President Grant, this is the newcomer in our team, Eleanor." Albert Sawyer tugged on Eleanor’s sleeve, signaling her with his eyes, "Winslow, aren’t you going to greet President Grant?"
"..." Charles noticed Lawyer Sawyer’s gesture of tugging on the President’s wife’s sleeve and felt a tinge of nervousness on his brow.
When speaking, why pull and tug!
Charles instinctively glanced at his boss, and indeed, the coldness in the boss’s eyes intensified.
Reluctantly, Eleanor lifted her eyes and made direct eye contact with Adrian Grant. Her gaze was as calm as still water, her face practically screamed ’what are you looking at.’
Who knew the man would slightly raise his brows with amused interest.
Eleanor immediately understood his underlying message: Who was it that said, ’We have no reason to meet until your lawyer contacts me’?
Eleanor: "..." Bad luck!
