Entangled in Midnight: Mrs Grant wants a Divorce
Chapter 28: Ugly Husband Comes Home, Good Days Are Over
CHAPTER 28: CHAPTER 28: UGLY HUSBAND COMES HOME, GOOD DAYS ARE OVER
"Blake, why are you not happy?" Eleanor glanced at the unappetizing midnight snack. "Should we order some barbecue instead?"
Blake Lockwood shook his head and sighed, "I’m unhappy because my ugly husband is coming home. My good days are over!"
Eleanor spoke fairly, "Young Master Hawthorne isn’t ugly, is he?"
Blake reviewed her unfamiliar husband, "Too rough, not quite fond of him."
Blake Lockwood is famously delicate and sensitive, not fond of someone like Trevor Hawthorne.
Before going to sleep, Eleanor attempted to take off the jade bracelet herself, failing once again.
She suddenly paused, vaguely noticing some marks appearing inside the bracelet.
Examining the bracelet, she saw three engraved words: Zia Winslow.
The font resembled slanted gold script but wasn’t very standard, carrying a bit of fierceness, which was Adrian Grant’s usual writing style.
Eleanor stared at the three words, her mind filled with mixed emotions.
If Adrian Grant had given her a bracelet engraved with her name a month ago, she would’ve been pleased.
But times had changed, she no longer needed it.
The next day.
Eleanor was awakened by the sound of her phone ringing.
Caller ID: Grandma Grant.
— It was Old Madam Grant!
Eleanor struggled to awaken herself as she answered the phone, but the moment she addressed ’Grandma,’ the other end laughed kindly.
"You little lazy cat, not out of bed yet?"
"Grandma, just got up."
Eleanor felt a bit guilty, it was almost ten o’clock.
"No worries, you young people love to sleep. Sleep more! I just miss you a bit!" Old Madam Grant paused, then said, "Eleanor, my birthday is next week. You and Adrian will come back together, right?"
Eleanor had just gotten up, her brain was a bit slow to react, but at this moment, she suddenly became fully awake.
Did Old Madam Grant not know that she and Adrian Grant were preparing for a divorce?
When she was caught ’in bed’ back then, most of the Grant Family members held her in contempt and mocked her, thinking she was shameless and lowly, definitely unfit to marry into the Grant Family. It was Old Madam Grant who opposed the others and had Adrian Grant marry Eleanor. It was a scandal known throughout the city, and marrying Adrian Grant was her most dignified ending.
Eleanor was truly grateful to Old Madam Grant and couldn’t bring herself to say anything that might hurt her.
"Eleanor?" Old Madam Grant hadn’t heard Eleanor’s response and started to sound disappointed.
"Grandma, if I can make it, I will definitely come."
Whether she would go or not was still uncertain.
Old Madam Grant was satisfied, laughingly saying, "I heard Adrian just bought a Purple Jade Bracelet. A girl from the family wanted it from him, but Adrian said it was for you. Next time you come, wear it and let the sisters envy you!"
Eleanor, who planned to visit a jewelry store today to remove the bracelet, said, "...How did they know Adrian bought a bracelet?"
Old Madam Grant laughed more heartily, "Oh, everyone knows! Young couples showing their love!"
Eleanor: "?"
Blake Lockwood probably guessed Eleanor’s confusion and took out her phone to show Eleanor.
In it, there was a group chat consisting of young ladies and gentlemen from various families discussing Adrian Grant ’spending millions to win a beauty’s smile’:
[Didn’t they say Adrian didn’t like Eleanor? They must have spent nine figures last night!]
[Isn’t Adrian in love with Mia Winslow? Are the jewels really for Mia Winslow?]
[Mia Winslow and her mom appear gentle and generous, but they are no good either!]
[Isn’t anyone curious about the other person who wanted to buy Eleanor’s mom’s relic to give to her? Oh my god, wouldn’t Young Master Grant be furious hahaha!]
...
All kinds of speculations and discussions spread in various groups, making it the hottest gossip around.
Eleanor: "..."
She really didn’t want to become the center of gossip!
Especially given her current situation with Adrian Grant, it was really unsuitable!
Blake Lockwood had work in the afternoon and left after freshening up.
However, upon reaching downstairs, she saw a tall figure leaning against the wall, a cigarette between his fingers. His head was lowered while smoking, his eyes appeared wild.
Blake Lockwood paused.
"Our parents have arranged a lunch date." Trevor Hawthorne extinguished the cigarette butt, looked at Blake Lockwood, smirking, "Anyone who didn’t know might think we are getting a divorce too."
Blake Lockwood: "..."
-
The matter of Old Madam Grant’s birthday banquet was once an excuse Eleanor used to stall The Winslow Family, but now it became a difficult dilemma.
She and Adrian Grant were planning a divorce, and it was no longer appropriate for her to appear at Old Madam Grant’s birthday banquet.
Or, if she quickly finalized the divorce procedures, wouldn’t she have a justifiable reason?
Eleanor called Adrian Grant, but there was no answer.
Eleanor then called Charles Rhodes.
"Mrs. Grant, it’s the weekend, President Grant isn’t working. How can a subservient like me know my boss’s whereabouts at all times?" Charles Rhodes innocently suggested, "President Grant was quite drunk last night. Why not go home and check on him?"
What Charles Rhodes referred to as ’home’ was the Azurean Bay villa where she and Adrian Grant had once lived together.
Having moved out for more than a month, Eleanor felt somewhat unfamiliar returning to this place.
"Welcome home!"
The face recognition at the gate still was familiar with Eleanor’s face, and the gate opened automatically.
Neither Eleanor nor Adrian Grant liked too many people in the house, so there were no long-term servants assigned at the Azurean Bay villa.
Without anyone to announce her, Eleanor pressed the doorbell, but there was no response. She entered her fingerprint, and the door ’clicked’ open.
The vast villa was silent enough to hear a pin drop.
Everything was almost unchanged from before she left, as if Adrian Grant didn’t live here; no new things were added.
"Ah—!"
In the middle of surveying, Eleanor suddenly saw a man standing on the stairs wearing a black robe, startling her.
Adrian Grant’s hair was a bit messy, holding a water cup in one hand, savoring the sight of Eleanor as if observing a daring small animal that intruded.
Eleanor: "..."
Eleanor was somewhat embarrassed, "I tried calling you, but there was no answer. I also rang the doorbell, but no one responded."
Adrian Grant appeared unconcerned, "This house is yours too."
Eleanor was unsure if he meant that as part of the marital property she owned a share, or if, as Mrs. Grant, she was still the lady of this house?
