Entertainment: Starting as a Succubus, Taking Hollywood by Storm
Chapter 1000 - 973: Then Maybe Your Mother Should Run
The external discussion surrounding Trump's proposed "Muslim Ban" grew increasingly intense.
Meanwhile, the man himself, Trump, was in his campaign office with his team, popping champagne to celebrate.
They were thrilled.
Because the objective had been achieved.
After drinking a bit too much, Trump personally called Martin. "Ah, Martin, you genius bastard, be good to my daughter."
After saying that, he hung up, leaving Martin on the other end bewildered.
On February 13th, six Republican primary candidates appeared at a televised debate in South Carolina.
They were: Jeb Bush, John Kasich, Ted Cruz, Donald Trump, Marco Rubio, and Ben Carson.
Martin, who was filming IT, also took the crew to collectively watch this debate. ᴛʜɪs ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀ ɪs ᴜᴘᴅᴀᴛᴇ ʙʏ novèlfire.net
From the TV screen, Trump had the strongest presence and was also the largest figure physically.
Anya sat next to Martin, brimming with interest. The young lady had just arrived in the US from the UK not long ago and hadn't personally experienced a US election, so she was full of curiosity.
At that time, people didn't know how special this debate would be—shouting, vicious remarks, personal attacks, madness, vulgarity... these words would become the hallmarks of this debate...
This over-two-hour-long debate would become an extremely "entertaining" one in US election history.
It might even leave you confused after watching: Was it a "slanging match" mixed with policy discussions? Or were policy discussions mixed into a "slanging match"?
The atmosphere at the start of the TV debate was somewhat solemn—the six Republican candidates observed a moment of silence for the passing of US Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia.
But once the formal debate began, the tone changed drastically. These six debaters almost completely ignored the moderator, directly attacking each other in pairs. Sharp, insulting sounds repeatedly rudely interrupted opponents; slanderous remarks were mixed into discussions on immigration, the Iraq War, and the appointment of the next Supreme Court Justice.
Cruz and Rubio had been "tearing into" each other over immigration for two months.
In 2013, Rubio had sponsored an immigration plan that could help illegal immigrants obtain legal status. Cruz held a different stance on this.
At this debate, the two continued to argue over this topic. Cruz even shouted at Rubio in Spanish, criticizing him for being "too soft" on immigration and accusing him of supporting Obama's immigration policies.
Rubio criticized Cruz as a "liar."
"Ted Cruz has been lying all along!" Rubio said in a sharp voice.
Then, Trump got involved, "stabbing" Cruz by calling him "the biggest liar in debate history."
Because Ted Cruz had previously criticized Trump for "supporting Planned Parenthood funding with federal taxpayer money."
In fact, Trump had indeed considered supporting this fund, but after his staff researched premature births, he stated he would no longer provide assistance.
Trump continued to attack Cruz: "This guy can talk until the cat come home. He's a nasty guy. Now I know why he can't get support from his colleagues—because he's a nasty guy!"
Trump even brought up Cruz's "dirty tricks" during the Iowa caucuses as evidence.
During the Iowa caucuses, a staffer from Cruz's campaign had told voters in the state that Ben Carson was dropping out. Cruz later publicly apologized for this false information.
After the Iowa election concluded, Trump had tweeted, publicly firing shots at Cruz: "Cruz didn't win in Iowa. He deceived the vast number of voters, so the final result is so unreliable. Cruz definitely couldn't have gotten that many votes. Lowlife!"
Cruz fired back without backing down: "Trump is really something. Now he's defending Carson. Little does he know he previously called Carson a 'psychopath' and linked Carson to child molestation. Oh, and Trump has these weird gestures. Every time you firmly quote something he once said, he jumps up and shouts 'You're a fraud! Liar! Liar!'"
Faced with Trump's constant interruptions, Cruz even "educated" Trump like a father: "You need to learn not to interrupt like an adult!"
Later, CNN commented that if there was any "camaraderie" between Trump and Cruz before, they finally "severed ties" at this South Carolina debate.
Watching the candidates arguing until they were red in the face, Jeb Bush, who was also participating in the debate, expressed amazed helplessness and criticized: "Ah, you're cursing like this. Who knows how many of you will end up dropping out!"
However, the most intense confrontation in this debate belonged to the battle between Trump and Jeb Bush.
Trump started from the "9/11" attacks, continuously criticizing Jeb Bush and his Bush family.
"It's very clear, the Iraq War was a huge, fat mistake!" Trump said.
In 2015, Jeb had defended his brother, former US President George W. Bush, on the Iraq issue.
Trump continued to mock Jeb Bush: "He spent 5 days twisting whether the Iraq War was a mistake or not. Finally, someone next to him told him it was a mistake, and only then did he follow up and say 'That war was wrong.' Even though everyone knows it was a mistake, it was a tremendous mistake. We should never have sent troops to Iraq. It destroyed Middle East stability."
...
Trump even asked Jeb: "Should President Bush (W.) have been impeached at that time?"
Faced with the criticism, Jeb chose to fight back: "Always attacking my family, I've had enough."
He said: "Frankly, I don't care about Trump's many insults towards me, but I can't stand him pointing fingers at my family. My father is the greatest man I know. And my brother, while Trump was doing his reality TV show, established mechanisms to provide security for the nation. I am proud of his actions."
Trump angrily retorted: "The World Trade Center collapsed. I lost many friends. The Twin Towers were attacked and fell during your brother's administration. Did he keep us safe? He did not!"
Attacking the Bush family, Jeb said to Trump: "If you have the guts, you should go a round with my mother. She's the toughest person I know. I'm lucky to be her son."
Trump directly used a fierce line to counter Jeb: "Ah, then maybe your mother should run for president."
This line made countless US people in front of their TVs laugh out loud and directly increased Trump's public support rate by 0.3 percent.
And Jeb Bush henceforth gained the nickname "Mama's Boy."
