Chapter 312 - 306: Who is Pregnant?
CHAPTER 312: CHAPTER 306: WHO IS PREGNANT?
"Thank you!" Ji Wei’s face still held a smile, but her voice seemed to be squeezed out through her teeth.
She raised her wine glass, just about to take a sip when her expression suddenly changed. She hurriedly placed the glass aside, covered her mouth, and ran off.
"Sister Ji!" Xiao Liu called out in a bit of a panic, apologizing to Leng Yan and Wen Nuan, "I’m sorry, President, Madam. Sister Ji’s stomach has been upset these past few days. I’ll take her to the hospital for a checkup tomorrow."
"Stomach upset?" Wen Nuan repeated these four words, watching Ji Wei’s hurried departure. For some reason, there was an unsettling feeling in her heart.
"Yes, I’ll go check on her." Xiao Liu said and also ran off.
"What’s wrong?" Leng Yan had been ignoring Ji Wei recently and hadn’t even looked at her. Seeing Wen Nuan a bit lost, he asked worriedly.
"Maybe she drank too much juice." Wen Nuan smiled gently, "Yan, I’m going to the restroom."
There was an emotion stuck in her throat, long compressed, difficult to disperse. She couldn’t figure out what it was, or perhaps she feared something.
"Sister Ji, how are you?" Xiao Liu entered and found Ji Wei vomiting. She quickly helped Ji Wei pat her back and handed her a glass of mouthwash.
Ji Wei felt very uncomfortable, smoothing her chest. After rinsing her mouth, she frowned in frustration, "If I had known it would be this hard, I wouldn’t have wanted the child."
"Sister Ji..."
Hearing her say this, Xiao Liu was startled and lowered her voice, "You’re not planning to abort, are you?"
"Abort?" Ji Wei snorted coldly, "Is that possible? Even if I don’t like it, I never thought of aborting!"
After speaking, she glanced at her belly, her eyes gradually deepening. She wiped her mouth with a tissue and left. After thinking for a moment, she added, "Have the housekeeper make something for dinner; I can’t eat the food at the banquet."
Wen Nuan saw Ji Wei coming out and slightly sidestepped her body. Earlier, in front of so many people, she had to interact, but now, she wanted to avoid her as much as possible, seeing Ji Wei as a plague.
"Not like?" Xiao Liu pursed her lips, puzzled by Ji Wei’s thoughts. The baby in her belly was Leng Yan’s, wasn’t it? How could she not like it?
"Ah, pregnant women really have strange personalities!" Xiao Liu took out her phone to call the housekeeper, muttering.
Pregnant?
Wen Nuan felt like she heard a thunderclap. As she was about to push the restroom door open, she stood there, her brain momentarily blank, unable to move. After a while, she looked at Xiao Liu, who was startled to see her come in, "Who’s pregnant?"
Could it be Ji Wei?
Her heart pounded chaotically, and her legs trembled slightly.
"President’s wife?" At that moment, Xiao Liu most wanted to bite off her tongue. "Ah, I just got a call from my mom saying my sister-in-law is pregnant and has a very bad temper." She quickly came up with an excuse, waving her phone towards Wen Nuan for effect.
"Oh." Wen Nuan nodded woodenly. Xiao Liu indeed held a phone, and she reassured herself it might just be that. She realized she was too sensitive just now. She clearly remembered Leng Yan saying he saw with his own eyes that Ji Wei took the contraceptive pill.
Thinking this way, her heart still felt chaotic. Closing her eyes, she leaned against the wall, recalling what Leng Yan had told her after the incident.
"Nuannuan, why haven’t you come out yet?"
Tong Xi knocked on the door, startled to see her leaning against the wall, "Nuannuan, what’s wrong?"
"Xixi." Wen Nuan opened her eyes, feeling a sour urge to cry, but controlled it, "Why are you here?"
"You’ve been in here a while and haven’t come out. Leng Yan was worried and asked me to check on you." Tong Xi reached out her hand towards her forehead, "You don’t look well, are you running a fever?"
"No." Grabbing Tong Xi’s hand, Nuannuan felt suffocated. She wanted to tell Tong Xi about the unease in her heart, but feared if she spoke, Tong Xi would scream or even grab Leng Yan and Ji Wei on the spot for a confrontation.
If that happened, the scene would be chaotic and uncontrollable. Moreover, if what Xiao Liu said was true, it would be even harder to handle.
"Xixi, I felt a bit dizzy just now, so I leaned for support. I’m fine now, let’s go out." She patted Tong Xi’s hand, offering comfort.
Exiting the restroom, she took a deep breath. Seeing Leng Yan approaching, she forced a smile, "Yan, I’m feeling unwell and want to go home. Is that okay?"
"Annoyed by Ji Wei, right? Hmph! That woman won’t let anyone have peace even when leaving!" Tong Xi rolled her eyes at Ji Wei in the distance, then turned to glare at Leng Yan, "All thanks to you!"
"I’m sorry, Nuannuan." Leng Yan looked at Wen Nuan with a pained expression, feeling like his heart was being gnawed by ants. It’s his fault; he hated himself for it.
"I feel a bit dizzy." Wen Nuan forced a smile, "I want to go home and rest a bit; I haven’t been sleeping well lately."
Leng Yan came out of the shower and saw that Nuannuan was already lying on the bed, tossing and turning, looking restless.
"Nuannuan." He lifted the lightweight quilt and lay next to her, "Where are you uncomfortable?"
"In my heart." Wen Nuan reached out and hugged his waist, "It feels stifled."
"We shouldn’t have gone if I’d known." Leng Yan rested his chin on her forehead, remorseful, "Tong Xi was right to scold me; it’s all my fault, making you feel like this."
Wen Nuan’s hand gently traced his chest, "If only I had met you earlier than her."
Then there would be no Ji Wei and no such tangled emotions.
"I wish too, but there’s no ’if’." Leng Yan let her trace him, feeling a shiver yet an extraordinary comfort from her gentle fingers on his skin. He sighed softly, "I can’t erase that relationship, but Nuannuan, from now on, there’s only you."
Only you, no one else...
"Mm." Wen Nuan smiled faintly, closed her eyes, "Yan, I’m tired, let’s sleep."
"Okay." Leng Yan bent down to kiss her lips, but she slightly turned away.
"Nuannuan..." Leng Yan was slightly taken aback.
"I’m sorry, Yan." Wen Nuan opened her eyes wide, looking a little apologetic at Leng Yan, "I’m just a bit disoriented, it wasn’t intentional."
She had just acted completely out of instinct; she didn’t expect to turn away from his kiss. She knew it was his goodnight kiss but still refused.
"It’s okay, sleep well." He gently covered her with the quilt. Watching her fall asleep, Leng Yan tightly hugged her, and scenes of when she first returned began to flash in his mind.
She said she forgave him, but in the depths of her heart, there was always strong resistance to his intimacy.
When he kissed her, she would shy away.
Just when it seemed like their relationship had slightly improved, her reaction earlier left him feeling utterly confused.
At the banquet, he clearly saw that Wen Nuan and Ji Wei hadn’t made direct contact when he wasn’t by their side.
