Chapter 316 - 310: Mother-in-law Does Not Allow Abortion
CHAPTER 316: CHAPTER 310: MOTHER-IN-LAW DOES NOT ALLOW ABORTION
"Nuannuan." Leng Yan looked at her in pain, but could only call out her name; his throat choked up, and for a moment he couldn’t say anything.
The way she looked now, she obviously knew something. He was heartbroken and wished he could slap himself; was this what he meant by everything being resolved, that he wouldn’t let her suffer the slightest harm?
As a man, he really was a failure!
It must have been Ji Wei who told her; he could only think of this possibility because Li Qiu had promised him not to tell anyone for the time being, including Wen Nuan.
"Speak, I’m listening." Wen Nuan hugged her knees, tilting her head to look at him. Her eyes were so swollen they almost couldn’t open, so she squinted to see him.
Yet just by looking at him, he was still so handsome, more than three years ago, even though there was deep sorrow in his brows and eyes, it still made people enamored. He who once resided in her heart was now so real in front of her. She admitted that her love for him was deeper than three years ago, otherwise she couldn’t have forgiven him. But, alas, their love, from budding to blooming, always encountered storms, shattering the tender blossoms to pieces.
She desperately wanted to protect it, yet she couldn’t. She coldly laughed to herself, was it that her opponent was too strong, or was she too incompetent?
The redness and swelling of her eyes pierced Leng Yan’s heart, and he cautiously asked, "Your eyes? From crying?"
"I’m fine." Wen Nuan gently looked away, deciding not to look anymore.
"Did Ji Wei find you?" Leng Yan reached out to take her hand, but she avoided him, his hand hung powerlessly as he looked at her, but she didn’t look back.
"I’m sorry, I thought I had handled it," Leng Yan clenched his fist, "I was too careless."
"Yes." Wen Nuan nodded, lightly uttering a word, still with her head lowered, staring at her smooth feet, she gave a bitter smile and said hoarsely, "She said she is pregnant. She also said the child is yours."
"Nuannuan." Leng Yan’s chest ached, and he hugged her from behind: "I won’t acknowledge this child, I only want those you give birth to."
His embrace, lacking its former sense of security, suffocated Wen Nuan. She struggled free with effort, distancing herself from him, glaring dryly at him: "You said there was nothing, you said everything was handled!"
"Now, a woman comes knocking, hoping I’ll leave you, and even if I don’t, she will still have your baby. Ha! She said I can’t kill a small life, like I’m some executioner!" The tears had dried, leaving only a raw, painful feeling; her voice was hoarse, filled with fury: "Was I too foolish, right? Was I too naive, wasn’t I? I shouldn’t have believed my life could settle down."
She rued her initial belief in him, seeing his pain at losing her, she mercifully forgave him.
She came back, but this was the result!
Things really were never calm; one wave had barely settled when another rose up, always able to surprise her!
"Nuannuan, it was my fault." Leng Yan’s voice carried a sense of powerlessness, as he reached out to grasp Wen Nuan’s hand, she forcefully threw it off: "Don’t touch me!" Wen Nuan’s voice was truly fierce; she wished she had steeled her heart sooner, to avoid so much pain.
She shouldn’t have returned, shouldn’t have forgiven him. Then, when she heard Ji Wei was pregnant with his child, she wouldn’t be in so much pain, right?
She knew he was also a victim, but she couldn’t bring herself to comfort him. If it weren’t for his mistrust, how could she bear such humiliation?
Now, she wasn’t so much sad as disappointed!
"Nuannuan, I won’t want her child, trust me." Leng Yan’s eyes couldn’t hide the deep hurt.
"Make her abort it?" Wen Nuan didn’t want to look into his eyes, turning her back to the night outside the window and bitterly smiled: "She won’t agree. She said Mom wouldn’t either. Leng Yan, I’ve always known Mom didn’t particularly like me. That day she took me to the hospital, it was actually to find out why I hadn’t conceived for so long."
In truth, she had always known, just pretending to be oblivious. She didn’t want to probe too deeply, thinking being a little muddled might lead to happiness. But reality was harsh; she couldn’t avoid seeing the truth. Li Qiu loved children so much; how could she agree to have the child aborted? She truly admired Ji Wei for always clutching onto trump cards. Ji Wei told her Li Qiu had learned the truth from back then and had forgiven her for leaving three years ago. How wonderful, forgiven in the past, pregnant afterward, ha!
"Nuannuan." Leng Yan’s head ached, he attempted to explain something, but his phone persistently rang. He glanced at it, saw it was Li Qiu calling.
Leng Yan took a look, threw it aside, regardless of the reason for the call, he did not want to answer it. Wen Nuan let out a cold laugh, picked up the phone.
"Nuannuan, don’t!" Leng Yan’s face slightly changed, instinctively trying to grab it but it was too late. Wen Nuan had already pressed the speaker and answer button, and Li Qiu’s anxious voice immediately came through: "Yan, you can’t abort Ji Wei’s child!"
Just as expected!
Ha-ha, Wen Nuan’s lips spread into a smile, eerie yet poignant. She looked, wide-eyed, at Leng Yan with eyes filled with an expression that was hard to accept and softly spoke into the phone, "Mom, it’s me."
Li Qiu’s mind went "boom," the receiver almost slipping from her hand.
"Nuannuan." Her voice was weak, biting her lip, unsure of how to proceed.
Leng Yan repeatedly told her before leaving that Wen Nuan must not find out about this. She wanted to keep that secret. But she had just received Ji Wei’s call, who was crying grievously and repeatedly pleaded with her, even saying she could die for this child. In a moment of haste, not realizing Wen Nuan was there, she had let it slip.
After all, the child in Ji Wei’s belly was her first grandchild; she couldn’t bear to part with it. Moreover, Wen Nuan’s condition, just thinking of what the doctor said, made her uneasy.
"Do you want him to take the call?" With a calm tone, Wen Nuan handed the phone to Leng Yan. He refused to take it, forcibly putting it in her hand and disabling the speaker.
Wen Nuan looked outside, a small bird flew onto a branch, looked around for a moment, then gently took to the sky again.
Free and unrestrained, it filled her with envy, and she suddenly felt that her life was not as comfortable and free as that of a bird.
As for what Li Qiu said on the phone thereafter, she neither wanted to hear nor could she summon the strength to.
From start to finish, Leng Yan didn’t say a word to the person on the call. After hanging up, he looked at her, "Mom said she wants us to go to the old residence, she wants to talk to us."
"Okay." Wen Nuan nodded, her face emotionless. What was bound to come could not be avoided; eventually, they had to come to a conclusion, didn’t they?
