Chapter 3.

She’d hired a private investigator to look into Latoya: twenty–three years old, vocational training in nursing, born

    in a Houston suburb.

Her parents worked odd jobs in the city. Her younger brother was a dropout with a gambling problem.

When Rosalind first discovered Christopher’s involvement with this girl, she’d racked her brain. What could possibly make Christopher, a man who had everything, fall for someone with average looks, average figure, limited education, and modest background?

Was it because of those hands?

Or had fifteen years together simply bored him?

Christopher returned to find Rosalind exactly where she had been, as if she’d never gone to the garage

    his secrets.

A soft smile still lingered on his lips, the warmth not yet faded from his eyes. He slipped his phone back into the inner pocket of his suit jacket. “Rosa, I need to head out.”

Liza emerged just then carrying a steaming cup of coffee.“Going out thiste, Mr. Foret? Business?”

“Mmm,” Christopher murmured.“Someone important wants to buy me dinner.”

    Christopher’s car pulled away quickly.

“Mrs. Foret, drink this while it’s hot,” Liza urged.“Mr. Foret insisted.”

Rosalind took the mug. “It’s too hot. I’ll let it cool. Go to rest, Liza. It’ste.”

“Please do remember to drink it.”

    “I will.”

As soon as Liza hung up her apron and left, Rosalind swiftly poured the coffee down the toilet and flushed it.

She grabbed sunsses and a face mask and slipped out the door.

She hailed a cab.“Follow that car.”

Thirty minutester, Christopher’s ck Range Rover pulled up in front of a dpidated apartment building.

Momentster, a slender figure darted out, yanked open the passenger door with practiced ease, and slid inside.

Pale, graceful hands wrapped around his broad shoulders as she tilted her head up to meet his lips.

Even braced for it, the sight of the couple locked in an embrace inside the car froze Rosalind for a long moment.

    “Miss? They’re moving. Keep following?”

Rosalind snapped back to reality.“Yes. Follow them.”

Ten minutester, Christopher led Latoya into a trendy lounge bar.

     Chapter 3

From the moment they stepped out of the car, Latoya clung to Christopher’s arm, chatting animatedly.

Outside a private booth, a group of young men waited.

“Mr. Foret. Mrs. Foret,” they greeted respectfully.

Latoya nced around nervously at the plush surroundings. “I thought I was treating you?” She pouted yfully.“ces like this are way out of my budget.”

Christopher chuckled indulgently. “And where did you n to take me? That street food market?”

“That market is amazing!” Latoya protested.“I could feed you from one end to the other!”

“And spend the entire next day regretting it,” Christopher retorted dryly.

Latoya stuck her tongue out.“Your stomach’s just too delicate! I eat there all the time and I’m fine!”

One of the young menughed.“See? Mrs. Foret’s thrifty and sensible. Lucky man.”

    Menu

“Yes, Latoya is thrifty and sensible. Only I’m the spendthrift, buying jewelry every single day,” Rosalind thought bitterly.
