CHAPTER 242: CHAPTER 242: CAN’T HELP BUT FEEL SORRY FOR HER

"Uh-huh, that might be it. Lin Banxia is definitely here to find President Huo. She’s probably going to use their old feelings again, huh."

"I really hope President Huo ignores her. Women like her, so greedy and shameless, are the worst!"

The group chatted a bit more before dispersing.

Inside the elevator, Lin Banxia was lost in thought about what Huo Yanting had just said to her. For a moment, she felt utterly bewildered.

Just then, Qi Han’s phone rang.

After finishing the call, he pressed the button for another floor.

Lin Banxia was still immersed in her own thoughts and didn’t notice Qi Han playing any tricks.

When the elevator doors opened, Qi Han smiled at her and said, "Miss Lin, please come this way."

Lin Banxia snapped out of her daze and immediately realized this wasn’t the floor for the chairman’s office. Her brows furrowed.

"Assistant Qi, where is this? I’m supposed to meet the chairman!"

Qi Han kept his polite smile and said, "I know, but my young master has some things he wants to discuss with you. Please head to the conference room."

Lin Banxia’s heart started to race inexplicably when she heard that Huo Yanting wanted to see her. Her breathing became slightly uneven.

Yet, she didn’t refuse to meet him.

The fact that he chose to meet her in the conference room rather than his office meant he had deliberately cleared everyone out.

"Miss Lin, the young master is inside. Please go in."

Lin Banxia glanced at Qi Han with gratitude. She extended her small hand but hesitated for a moment.

At that instant, the conference room door was opened from the inside, revealing the strikingly handsome face of a man.

Looking at the face that suddenly appeared before her, magnified in all its stunning detail, Lin Banxia momentarily forgot how to breathe.

"Come in!" The man stretched out his hand, grabbed hold of her small one, and pulled her inside without giving her a chance to resist.

Caught off guard, Lin Banxia stumbled into a fiery, solid chest, her entire being frozen in momentary shock.

The man’s arms tightened as he enveloped her petite frame, refusing to let go. His chin rested on the top of her head, and that deep, magnetic voice spilled down from above her: "Still unwilling to see me?"

Lin Banxia nestled in his embrace, suddenly feeling a pang of bitterness in her eyes. It was only when she heard his words that she snapped back to reality.

"I didn’t dare come to see you." She spoke the truth—she didn’t have the courage.

The man furrowed his brows, loosened his arms, and let her go. When he saw the stubborn tears welling in the corners of her eyes, his heart tightened.

"Huo Anya must still hold a grudge from when you got her into trouble with the police last time. Now that she sees we’re divorced, she’s gotten brazen enough. How much damage did she cause?" Huo Yanting’s tone unknowingly softened a bit.

At the mention of the pear garden, Lin Banxia’s tightly wound heartstrings seemed to become even more fragile. She wiped her eyes with the back of her hand and spoke in a hoarse voice, "She almost destroyed half of the pear garden’s belongings..."

"Then make her pay for it!" Huo Yanting responded decisively.

"That’s easy for you to say. How could she ever compensate me? She probably thinks she didn’t smash enough and might even want to beat me up again. I shouldn’t have hidden away. If I had been at the pear garden that day, I would have rather let her hit me instead of letting the pear garden suffer such ruin." Lin Banxia’s voice was filled with regret—regret about her decision to leave, which ultimately led to the pear garden’s misfortune.

"Stop saying such foolish things. You being safe and unharmed is what’s most important. Damaged things can be repaired." Huo Yanting didn’t like hearing her talk as if she didn’t care about herself. The last time she’d been hit, he had felt miserable enough. If she had to be beaten again, his heart might shatter.
