Extra’s Path To Demon King
Chapter 270: Her Trial [5]
Chapter 270: Her Trial [5]
The five adults of the mercenary group looked at each other, hesitation obvious in their gazes. One of them then said with a sigh, “She is very badly sick, she has a weird disease, something about which no one has a clue. Even the physicists don’t want to get too close to her for fear that it is some new infectious disease.”
“Despite our willingness to pay them a hefty sum, they aren’t willing to help her. They probably don’t have the expertise to do anything about it either. Only extremely pricey medicines could have some effect on her.”
Sophia had a contemplative expression on her face. The woman, who was now ill, was one of the people she was closest to at the time, while she was in their mercenary group. So she said, finally, “Take me to her, let me see her.”
Another buff man stated, shaking his head, “What can you even do?”
Sophia gave the man a cold look and reiterated, “That is none of your business; just take me to her.”
With a sigh, they all decided to finally take her to the place where the women were kept, the leader’s wife, who was sick. But the moment she entered the place, her expression changed to one of anger. She instantly realized what was going on, she turned back towards the five and asked, “WHY?”
The leader of the mercenary group stepped forward and said, “You’re the assassin that have killed so many of the high officials, aren’t you?”
Sophia’s slightly red eyes continued to look at the man with furious intensity as she uttered, “And?”
From all around that place, many more warriors came out, now all numbered 30 in total. She realized that this was a trap, and the very people she had trusted for a whole year had betrayed her. Still, in a way, she wasn’t too upset or too disappointed; maybe a part of her knew on the inside that no one could be trusted. So, she asked this time in a curious tone, “Can I ask why?”
The leader gritted his teeth, “Because the bounty on your head is too big, we are all getting old, with that money, we all could live our lives comfortably. And no, she is not sick, but we knew she would never agree to this, which is why she is unaware of it. After all, my wife would never agree to this; she is too soft.”
“And those red eyes of yours, do you think we didn’t notice it? How you grow stronger like some monster every time you kill a human, how those eyes of yours become more and more red with each kill. Yet, my stupid wife only sees you as a child. You might even come after us one day.”
“Which is why I told the town leader about everything we knew about you. With all these strong warriors, even someone as strong as you can only die helplessly today.”
Sophia’s anger filled face transformed into that of a snicker, her lips parted and she showed an unnaturally wide smile, she laughed, her voice was beautiful, she was beautiful, devastatingly so, she knew that the leaders of the town did not want her dead, instead they wanted to capture her, and she could not help but find the whole situation so utterly hilarious, human greed and lust, it was so disgusting, so revolting after all, humans were indeed the cancer of the natural world, the ultimate plague.
“hah, hahahaa ahahaha ahhahaha hahahhahha…..”
The unnatural smile on her lips and her beautiful laughter, coupled with her vibrant red eyes, created an unnervingly eerie moment; even the grown men felt their hearts tighten as if something terrible was about to happen. The leader of the mercenary team gritted his teeth, brought out his sword, and shouted, “What are you all waiting for? Hurry and attack right now.”
And so all of them attacked her simultaneously, the wide devilish grin on Sophia’s face remained, she brought out two sharp knives which were hidden underneath her dress, without a second of hesitation, like a ballerina of death, her red eyes darted around, and she made mental calculations in an instant as her mind went into hyperdrive. Spinning her body like a torpedo, her dagger sharpened, she cut through the flesh of all the warriors, avoiding their deadly attacks coming at her. The proficiency in her combat prowess was frightening to say the least.
In just 5 minutes, more than half of them were dead; every single one of them was an experienced warrior. Now, only a little less than half remained, and there was deep fear in their eyes. None of the mercenary group’s members were dead yet, since they mostly stayed in the back, fearing this very possibility. The mercenary leader had a grim expression on his face. The rest of the men sent by the town leader were now scared to step forward, so they had to lead the charge.
With a shout, the mercenary group now took the lead; no matter how reluctant they were, they had to do it, as they knew a great deal about her; they thought they could do something about it, perhaps, but alas, they could not have been more mistaken. Sophia’s arms were fully painted in blood, even her face and that creepy smile still lingered; there was no tiredness in her body posture, no trace of difficulty, but the bodies of the killed enemies had countless holes in them, as her dagger had stabbed their insides numerous times.
After a few more minutes, only butchered corpses remained in the place; no, there was one person still alive, but barely. The leader of the very mercenary group who had orchestrated the whole attack. Now he lay motionless, while Sophia sat beside the man on the right, looking at him with that same characteristic smile. The man asked in fear, “What are you?”
Sophia’s smile faltered, but not for what the man implied; instead, from a sense of confusion, “Well, I would like to ask the same question.”
She paused for a moment, then continued, “You know, I wasn’t like this always. There was an attack on our village a long time ago; my mother was violated right in front of our eyes, and my father was also killed right then and there. The bandits killed almost everyone; they were about to kill my older brother as well. But something awakened within me, and I alone killed more than 50 bandits. But strangely, the one who violated my mother escaped with her. I have been searching for her, for that bandit, for so long. But I have found no trace of them.”
“But I have come to accept some things about myself, that I indeed am a Monster. Perhaps I have always been.”
Then she showed the man a hand-drawn sketch, “By the way, can I ask what this is?”
The man’s eyes widened in terror, but they quickly returned to normal as he said, “Who knows?”
Sophia had a contemplative expression on her face. She began to think deeply, “Did you two have a child?”
The man’s eyes flickered in horror again. She smiled, seeing the overwhelming fear in his eyes, “Of course, it is a sketch of your own child, which you carried around. Tsk tsk, what a stupid fool.”
She got up from the ground, dusted her dress and said in a bored voice while smearing the sketch with fresh blood, she revealed to the man nearing his death, “I’m thinking of bringing a gift to her, I wonder how she will like your cut off head?”
The man roared in outrage, “DON’T YOU DARE???”
Sophia’s smile widened, “Why would I not? You should have thought of the repercussions before trying to come and kill me for your benefit. Don’t worry, I will send them both to you soon, so that you will not be lonely in the afterlife.”
“NOOOOOOOOOO……”
The man screamed at the top of his lungs, but it was cut short as his head separated from his body with a clean slash from Sophia. Then she remained standing, waiting for the blood to pour out so she could bury all these bodies. As for the current town leader, she would kill him as well, naturally.
But unlike what she said that she would kill the leader’s wife and her children, she couldn’t do it; she wasn’t that cold and heartless yet that she could do something like that, without batting an eye. But she did kill the current leader of the town, and she did it right in front of his family; his wife and children saw him being killed at a luxurious dinner table.
After that, she left the town entirely, as she caused too much commotion to be able to live there anymore. She started searching for her mother again, as for her brother, she could only hope that he was well by now. He probably has a family, including children. A part of her wanted to go back, to see her brother again. Just for once. But her cold and practical self squashed that longing feeling. She had more important things to do.
