Extraordinary Voyage
Chapter 234: Test and Sea Demon
"Hahaha, what a big surprise!" Anthony looked at Aiven, who had just boarded the battleship, and immediately went up to give him a strong hug.
"Surprise, what? Clearly, it's a fright! You didn't even give me a heads-up about this whole affair, leaving me paranoid and suspicious," Aiven complained lightly after the greetings.
"Would it still be a surprise if I revealed everything beforehand? Oh, I forgot to congratulate you, the kingdom's first Navy New Star, the youngest battleship captain. You've really taken all the good things for yourself. Awesome! Awesome!"
Anthony chuckled. A pleasant surprise is good news, while bad news is a fright. In Anthony's eyes, this was undoubtedly a completely good thing!
"Thank you, it was just a timely encounter!"
Aiven didn't want to repeat the hardships and dangers endured to obtain these benefits, so he casually accepted Anthony's praise.
"Alright, tell me! There's such a big fuss; the secrecy is really well done!" Though Aiven already had his suspicions, he felt it best to hear the specifics from Anthony personally.
Woosh, woosh, woosh—
After picking up Aiven, the "Frost White Sword" had already set sail, heading into the depths of the ocean.
By this time, Anthony didn't bother keeping it a secret any longer.
"We're about to get rich, Aiven!....."
As Aiven had imagined. Since Anthony appeared here and was acting so mysteriously, it most likely had something to do with the "Siren's Song" they developed together earlier.
But he did not expect it to be of such a high level and on such a grand scale!
Almost three months ago, Aiven was still at sea hunting pirates.
With his authorization, Anthony evaluated the invention's value and initiated an emergency procedure, submitting the finalized data and samples to Principal Princeton's hands.
However, even though they had done their best to overestimate this invention's value, the two of them, who were only considering the problem from a tactical standpoint, still didn't realize the far-reaching strategic impact this thing could have on the maritime situation.
Yet Principal Princeton, who received Anthony's report, and Her Majesty the Queen behind him, were different.
A monarch with an ambition for the vast oceans, how could they ignore the substantial threat of the true rulers of the sea, the "Sea Monsters"?
Sea Monsters are the true rulers of the sea. Even a "Small Species" one only needs to suppress its extreme human-hating instinct and choose to constantly launch sneak attacks from underwater. Even if it encounters a pinnacle of human military power, a battleship, it would still be troublesome.
The sea bestows limitless advantages to Sea Monsters, creating a passive and powerless situation for humans, who are land creatures.
But the advent of the "Siren's Song" could overturn this situation, which has existed for hundreds of years (since humans gained the ability for oceanic voyages), in one fell swoop!
Today was the day the Kingdom dispatched an observation team to New Inn Port for an on-site verification of the "Siren's Song" effect.
Of course, today wasn't the first day of experimental verification, and Aiven couldn't have arrived so coincidentally.
Previously, after a long experimental period of over half a month and experiments on aquatic demonized creatures, groups of aquatic demonized creatures, and small species Sea Monsters, today Aiven just happened to catch the experiment on a large species Sea Monster.
If Aiven, as the primary inventor of the "Siren's Song," wasn't involved, he wouldn't have been specially transferred from the Third Fleet at the risk of leaking secrets during this crucial moment that could impact the oceanic situation and the kingdom's future.
The test site hadn't actually gone too far into the open sea; the "Frost White Sword" sailed normally for only an hour and a half to reach the specially selected spot.
After all, the dear members of the observation team were unlikely to follow the fleet deep into the open sea to experiment on wild Sea Monsters, especially with the Crown Prince among the observation team!
So.
As the "Frost White Sword" approached the preset test site, Aiven immediately heard a sound like swirling stirring coming from the increasingly thick white fog.
Woosh, woosh, woosh... woosh, woosh, woosh...
As if a giant creature was tirelessly struggling and rolling beneath the water ahead.
Then.
"Click, click, click....."
A mechanical sound suddenly came from Aiven's pocket. Aiven immediately took out the "Sea Monster Compass," which he had traded from Anthony before leaving New Inn Port.
Opening the silver flip cover, the complex mechanical dial in the middle, a gem-like green pointer, rotated leisurely amidst the continuous clicking, eventually stopping at the one o'clock direction.
That direction was also the direction in which the "Frost White Sword" was heading!
Aiven had no doubt about the source of the strange sea fog.
Sea fog is a natural talent of many Sea Monsters, just as natural as breathing. The accumulation of such a large area of dense fog meant that, aside from the monster's large size, it had "lingered" in this sea area for a long time.
Without even needing the guidance of the "Sea Monster Compass," Aiven, who had previously encountered three Sea Monsters and had enough samples for comparison, had sharpened his senses after meditating, enabling him to distinguish the unique scent of a Sea Monster in the thick fog through smell!
The scent of sea salt mixed with a very distinctive sour and rotten fishy smell, though not obvious, couldn't escape Aiven's microscopic identification.
Soon, the battleship reached the designated position, where the yellow signal lights (alchemy tools) on the ship pierced through the fog, flashing a few times. Subsequently, at approximately ten kilometers apart in three other directions, signal lights also flashed and responded in kind.
A total of four signal lights represented four warships, at least of the Level 2 battleship class or higher.
Aiven, being a competent Navy Captain, knew that this was a countdown signal for one minute.
"It's starting!" Anthony excitedly shouted on one side, having accompanied the previous experiments. He was already familiar with the procedure.
As the one-minute timeline neared the end, the signal lamp in the far west near the open sea, obviously the commander's, started flashing again, once per second.
The yellow light pierced the fog, making it visible to everyone.
Eight, seven, six.... three, two, one
Crash——
The sound of some kind of shackle breaking was heard.
In the sea area encircled by the four battleships, at its center, the sound of waves began to churn violently, as if some colossal creature had finally broken free of its restraints and began swimming rapidly underwater.
The "Sea Monster Compass" in Aiven's hand kept changing its direction, indicating that this Sea Monster was heading straight for the warship on the far west open sea side. As a large species, the deep sea was truly its domain.
However, after half a month of experiments, the navy on the warship was already adept, calmly switching signals in an orderly manner.
Aiven noticed that everything the navy was doing simulated a combat state; aside from the initial restraint method on the Sea Monster, they didn't use any witchcraft powers.
"Aiven, watch out, it's time to activate the 'Siren's Song'!"
A wave, invisible and from the warship in the west, penetrated the sea, propagating rapidly and diffusing far away.
Indeed.
The first to react to this specific frequency of infrasound was the massive creature underwater, which seemed to be struck on the head. It immediately changed direction underwater, rushing north.
Soon the northern signal lamp also flickered, indicating that the "Siren's Song" there was activating. Not only that, but the "Siren's Song" on the warships in the east, south, west, and north all started.
Meanwhile, the "Frost White Sword" began to advance slowly, working together with the other three warships to constantly compress the underwater Sea Monster's space to move.
While testing this new alchemy tool, they were also continually exploring the best tactical applications.
As with previous experiments, this time the "Siren's Song" did not disappoint the navy once again.
Within less than a minute, the Sea Monster underwater could no longer endure the infrasound's vicious assault penetrating its insides, prompting it to leap out of the water due to its instinct to seek advantage and avoid harm.
Boom——
A massive monster with dozens of black and red thick arms broke through the sea fog, appearing before the navy's eyes.
With a body much larger than a battleship, its waving arms surged up giant waves. Every inch of its black and red skin crazily emitted signals of snarling, terror, frenzy, and invincibility, making people tremble with fear at the sight!
For those who can't conquer their fear, just one sight could give them an incurable deep-sea phobia, making them never dare to enter the ocean again.
This was the survival instinct deeply engraved in the human bloodline!
"Ah! It's a beloved of the Mother of Sea Monsters Echidna.... Large Species: Sea Demon!!!"
Though called a Sea Demon, named from the fear of ocean sailors, it is, in fact, a giant octopus with black-red skin. A massive shell as pure black as cast iron grows in the middle of its forehead, perfectly protecting its vulnerable neural center.
Both the armored shell and tentacles of this large species Sea Monster indicated that it was indeed under the command of the Mother of Sea Monsters Echidna!
Just today, who knew which high-tier transcendent captured such a creature and brought it here to be an experimental subject for the 'Siren's Song'.
