Extreme Cold Era: Shelter Don't Keep Waste
Chapter 554 - 519: Establishment of the Supervisory Department
CHAPTER 554: CHAPTER 519: ESTABLISHMENT OF THE SUPERVISORY DEPARTMENT
"It’s truly shocking!" Perfikot slammed a document onto her desk, her heterochromatic eyes sweeping over the Northern Territory officials trembling in fear before her: "Over twenty Evil God Sect bases, including six altars! Of the ten judges I dispatched, three were severely injured, and we’ve lost seven Steam Knights!"
Ladies and gentlemen, should you not give me an explanation? How did the Northern Territory hide so many monsters and demons? Or is there someone among you who believes in the Evil God sects and thus opened the door wide for them?"
Perfikot’s voice was so cold it seemed to freeze both body and soul.
To the officials of the Northern Territory standing before her, they genuinely felt the chill, as a ring of frost began to form at their feet!
This was Perfikot using alchemy to strip the warmth from around their bodies.
This time, she was truly furious. If these people couldn’t provide a satisfactory explanation, she would have no choice but to turn them into ice sculptures as punishment.
Though the Northern Territory officials had always performed well in the past, in this matter Perfikot was genuinely enraged.
Although she understood that the spread of the Evil God sects wasn’t easy to prevent—like cockroaches, they could quickly proliferate everywhere—seeing so many Evil God sect activities in the Northern Territory made her feel as if her pride was being slapped hard.
Bear in mind, the Northern Territory had been established for only three years! Three years!
In just three years, the Northern Territory had been infiltrated to such an extent, even with Evil God altars being erected. How could one not feel a shocking anger?
This was her blood, her land, her people! How could she allow those Evil Gods to plague them?
Thinking of this, Perfikot grew even angrier, glaring at the Northern Territory officials and furiously demanding: "Speak! Are you all mute?"
"Lord! We have been negligent, please punish us!" Fortunately, someone finally mustered the courage to stand up, intending to take on Perfikot’s wrath.
Perfikot glanced at the person standing up. She had some impression of him; he was the manager of the Northern Territory’s public service department, known for his integrity and capability.
Perfikot had always appreciated and valued him. Now, seeing him stand up to take responsibility, it slightly eased her anger. At least someone was willing to shoulder the burden instead of shirking it.
"Really? Tell me, where did you go wrong?" Perfikot retracted her indifferent attitude, leaning back in her chair with a seemingly genuine curiosity.
Facing Perfikot’s inquiry, the official gritted his teeth and responded, "We failed in our oversight, allowing the Evil God sect to spread in the Northern Territory, unable to timely detect their activities and eliminate them. This is our failure."
"That’s something, at least you know where you went wrong." Perfikot praised indifferently and then continued: "So tell me, how should I punish you? And how do you plan to remedy this situation?
Negligence and errors aren’t scary, but if you make the same mistake twice, I’ll have to question your intelligence."
"We plan to conduct a more detailed sweeping investigation of the Northern Territory, thoroughly identifying the Evil God sect believers among the populace, and then hang them all!" Another official also stood up, not leaving the public service minister to face the fire alone: "Where they’re found is where they’ll be hanged! If found in a toilet, they’ll be drowned in the bowl! Only then can we set an example, making people afraid to believe in such nonsense!"
"Having ideas is good." Perfikot was quite satisfied with this official’s words, but words alone weren’t enough: "But if there isn’t a plan and execution to match, then you better shut your mouth! If you don’t need your tongue, it can be cut off and given to Grandpa Foster as a drink companion."
Perfikot’s words left the official who stood up to share the heat with a face of despair. He hadn’t expected his few formulaic statements would lead Perfikot to threaten to cut off his tongue.
Fortunately, the police chief spoke up: "Lord, I suggest that the Northern Territory establish a dedicated surveillance department to regularly inspect the recent Evil God sect issues.
The Evil God sects are pervasive and their behavior is bizarre and variable. Although some openly preach on the streets, many more infiltrate every aspect of the Northern Territory through various means.
To solve this issue, we can’t rely solely on the support of the judges as it would allow the church to gradually influence the Northern Territory. We should have our own surveillance department rather than depending every time on the church’s judges."
"That’s a good suggestion, worth considering." Perfikot nodded, agreeing with the police chief’s remarks.
The church has a good relationship with her now and is a natural ally in this matter, and the church’s judges do have unique expertise in dealing with Evil God sect issues. But if every occurrence relies on the judges for investigation and arrest, it would undoubtedly be too slack.
Though the church and the Evil God sects differ, both originate from that era, and the methods used by the church to propagate in its early days weren’t much better than those of the Evil God sects.
Therefore, Perfikot has always been in a state of cooperation and vigilance with the church.
Establishing a relevant surveillance department belonging to the Northern Territory is very necessary; at the very least, they would be an assistance in dealing with the Evil God Church, rather than everything being dictated by the church.
Though it may seem to have no impact, when Perfikot and the church truly go their separate ways, this surveillance department will become very important.
Thus, Perfikot did not continue to be angry, but instead started asking those present how this surveillance department should be formed, and how personnel and training should be conducted.
And the officials of the Northern Territory racked their brains to avoid the fate of turning into ice blocks.
The results they produced satisfied Perfikot greatly. People do need to be pressured; at least now these officials started appearing less useless in Perfikot’s eyes, as they were able to play their role while doing their primary duties well.
This made Perfikot feel quite gratified, so she gave them a few days to think of ways and perfect this plan before submitting it.
