CHAPTER 307: CH 307 : JELLAL’S COUNTERATTACK

[Bullet Domain: Dance of Death]

This is a technique derived from the second form of gunmanship—Curved Shot.

By combining terrifyingly precise calculations, free-form shooting skills, and an absurd level of physical ability, it weaves a perfect web made entirely of bullets.

Once caught within this web, the more one struggles or tries to evade, the narrower the space becomes—until there’s no room left to escape and death is inevitable.

The situation was becoming increasingly unfavorable for Jellal and the other two.

He wanted to dodge, but found that the space to maneuver was shrinking with every passing moment.

He wanted to escape the great web, yet a sense of foreboding told him that the moment any of them turned their backs, they would be swallowed whole by the relentless barrage of bullets.

"Ultear’s Arc of Time is useless against bullets this fast. Meredy’s magic isn’t suited for this kind of situation either... Is it up to me alone?"

Glancing sideways at Ultear and Meredy, who were struggling to hold on, Jellal made his decision.

A golden halo enveloped him.

In an instant, his movements became impossibly agile.

Ignoring the hail of bullets before him, he charged straight toward Luther.

"Even if I take a few hits, it doesn’t matter. As long as I can break his rhythm, we’ll have a chance to win."

So thought Jellal as he activated Meteor.

Seeing Jellal’s sudden charge, Luther was momentarily surprised—but quickly understood his intent.

The corner of his lips curled into a disdainful sneer.

"So he’s underestimating me."

Luther muttered under his breath, barely audible to anyone but himself.

Then, lifting his gaze to meet the charging Jellal, he once again raised his black-and-white twin guns.

"Gun Technique: Third Form — Burst Fire."

Bang! Bang!

Bullets with strange trailing sounds shot toward Jellal.

It was three successive volleys of six bullets each—eighteen rounds, condensed into a concentrated burst so powerful that their combined force struck with the might of a single, devastating shot.

But due to the angle, Jellal’s eyes could only see three bullets.

"Three bullets... I can take it."

Realizing there was no way to dodge, Jellal made a snap decision and accelerated toward Luther.

But then—bang.

No explosion followed.

Jellal’s pupils contracted sharply.

The three magical bullets had already pierced through his body, still carrying their momentum as they flew past him.

His form, robbed of strength, slowly collapsed—crashing to the ground.

"Cough, cough..."

Jellal fell to his knees, clutching his mouth as he coughed violently.

Crimson blood trickled through his fingers, dripping onto the ground.

His face had turned deathly pale—anyone could see his condition was dire.

"My Burst Fire can even punch through heavy armor. The outcome is clear now," Luther said coldly, pressing the muzzle of his gun against Jellal’s head.

"Underestimating me was your greatest mistake, Jellal-san."

"Even though I tried to give you as much credit as possible, I have to admit... your strength still exceeded my expectations."

A bitter smile crept across Jellal’s face.

"Oh? Is that your way of conceding?" Luther asked, eyeing Jellal.

"No."

Jellal lifted his head, meeting Luther’s gaze, and said softly,

"It means... I have no choice but to cast aside all hesitation and go all out, with nothing held back, if I want to defeat you."

"Wha—?"

Luther hadn’t yet grasped the meaning behind Jellal’s words, but an overwhelming sense of danger suddenly engulfed him.

His eyes narrowed sharply as his instincts screamed at him—he immediately leapt backward while simultaneously pulling the trigger of his pistol with his index finger.

The white gun’s barrel began to spin rapidly, and in one fluid motion, he hurled the pistol straight toward Jellal.

"Gun Technique: Sixth Form — Throw Shot."

The thrown pistol spun wildly through the air, firing bullets as it went.

Due to its high-speed rotation, the entire weapon carried a cutting force sharp enough to slice through nearly anything in its path.

But that alone... was far from enough.

Because now he was facing Jellal—who had fully entered his combat state, holding absolutely nothing back.

"Magic Sphere."

Facing the incoming white pistol, Jellal’s expression remained calm.

He extended his arm, and a sphere of condensed magical power blasted forth from his palm, meeting Luther’s weapon head-on.

The impact of their clash tore through the air with a sharp, screeching sound.

The Magic Sphere was shattered by the force of the spinning pistol—but the gun, too, was deflected, knocked aside.

Seizing the moment, Jellal’s figure blurred as he swiftly closed the distance between himself and Luther.

Seeing this, Luther clenched his teeth slightly, raising the only weapon left in his hands—the black pistol—and took aim at the rapidly approaching Jellal.

"Gun Technique: Third Form — Point-Blank Burst."

His cold voice rang out, immediately followed by the sharp crack of a gunshot.

Point-Blank Burst—a technique that delivered rapid-fire explosive shots at extremely close range.

Even inhumanly durable demons had fallen to this move.

In fact, many of them didn’t die from direct bullet wounds, but from the sheer concussive force of the blasts.

Luther had only one target: Jellal’s head.

He intended to end Jellal’s life with a single, decisive shot.

But Jellal wasn’t someone so easily killed.

He was once one of the Ten Wizard Saints—the very man who had pushed Noel to the brink of death.

He wasn’t an opponent that could be taken down without a fight.

As the bullets tore through the air toward him, Jellal’s pupils shrank slightly, but there was no hint of panic.

Instead, his magical energy surged outward with a sudden burst.

In the midst of his high-speed advance, he twisted his body into a seemingly impossible backward lean, his core muscles tightening.

With incredible precision, he narrowly evaded several bullets—only one struck him, hitting his right arm, the only shot he couldn’t dodge.

"What?!"

Luther’s face flashed with shock as he witnessed the scene—but he quickly recovered, raising his pistol to fire again.

However, Jellal was no longer going to give him any more chances.

Enduring the pain in his right arm and abdomen, Jellal gathered the magic within him.

In that instant, the atmosphere of the entire space seemed to grow heavy and oppressive.

A suffocating pressure spread outward, and under this inexplicable weight, Luther suddenly found that his body had become slightly sluggish.

"True Celestial Magic: Star Shatter."

Jellal’s voice rang out steadily.

A terrifying magic power spiraled around him like a vortex.

In a moment of illusion, Luther saw an entire constellation collapse within Jellal’s magic, and the ensuing explosion radiated a destructive force that seemed capable of tearing everything into dust—utterly terrifying.

Luther tried to flee, but found he could no longer move his body at all—not even a single finger.

He could only watch in horror as the celestial magic consumed him entirely.

"Aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!"

Luther let out a scream of agony as Jellal’s attack tore through him, leaving deep gashes all over his body.

Blood poured from the countless wounds, staining his entire body crimson.

When the magic finally faded, Luther collapsed to the ground, covered in injuries.

The pool of blood beneath him turned the ground scarlet, and the light had already vanished from his eyes.

"Finally... it’s over. Cough, cough."

Jellal dropped to one knee, coughing up a bit of blood.

Ultear and Meredy quickly rushed over to check his injuries.

"I’m fine. Nothing life-threatening," Jellal said with a strained smile, though his face remained pale.

"Looks like you’re no longer able to fight," Ultear said.

"Yeah," Jellal let out a small sigh.

"This is as far as I can go. If Luther had possessed a truly lethal finishing spell, things would’ve gone much worse for me. From here on, we’ll have to rely on Fairy Tail."

"Can we really trust those two from the Magic Council?"

Meredy asked, voicing another concern.

"I’m not sure if they’ll actually follow your orders."

Jellal shook his head. "I don’t know either. But I have no choice but to believe in them. Where this war is heading... is no longer something we can influence. All we can do now is watch from here in silence, and wait for it to end."

He looked toward the dark demon fortress that stood tall within Mercurius Palace and let out a quiet sigh.

"You’ll win... won’t you, Noel Rutherford? If even you can’t achieve victory—then this world truly has no future left."
