Fierce Daddy: His Million-Dollar Sweetheart
Chapter 477: Selfish Motives
CHAPTER 477: CHAPTER 477: SELFISH MOTIVES
"I’m not going." Leon Keane frowned and looked at Ivana Monroe. She shouldn’t have agreed to such a thing for Leon’s mother.
What kind of person is Mr. Pierce? He’s definitely in the hospital for money. The things Ivana said at his birthday banquet were like stabbing his heart with a knife. Would Mr. Pierce show a good face to Ivana at the hospital?
"Leon, look, your grandfather is so old now, and he’s in the hospital. Out of filial piety, Ivana, as the granddaughter-in-law, should also go and see him."
Leon’s mother blamed Ivana in her heart, thought it’d be fine just to chat with her, but why speak the truth? Was Ivana doing this on purpose?
"What does his poor health have to do with Ivana? He has sons and daughters, grandsons and granddaughters, isn’t that enough people to visit him?" Leon sneered, "I think he just wants to give Ivana a hard time so I’d have to give his grandson more money."
"Oh! Leon, don’t think your grandfather is that greedy."
"I don’t think he’s that greedy; it’s just that he is that greedy."
Oh! He misspoke, apart from money, there is another person in Mr. Pierce’s eyes: Lucas Pierce, his treasured grandson. Other than Lucas, Mr. Pierce doesn’t care about anyone.
Leon was exhausted; after all the hurt his mother experienced, she still hadn’t seen clearly? Wanting to keep sending herself for more hurt? And now dragging his wife into it too?
"Leon, don’t speak like that. No matter what, he’s still your grandfather."
Leon’s mother winked at Ivana, clearly displeased, and Ivana didn’t even come to her aid. What a malicious person, deliberately trying to cause discord between Leon and his mother.
"Heh... I’d rather have nothing to do with him."
Leon sneered.
Ivana pretended not to see Leon’s mother winking. She had already posed a tricky situation in the room by underhanded means, so Ivana didn’t mind presenting her with another dilemma now. If Leon disagreed, she would be at a loss.
Leon’s mother was filled with hatred!
Watching Leon and Ivana about to leave with their two children.
Suddenly, Leon’s mother spoke sadly: "Leon Keane, do you want your mother to beg you? Will you only agree to let Ivana accompany me to see your grandfather then?"
Beg him?
Leon found it laughable, but when it came to Mr. Pierce, his mother’s familial feelings were indeed laughable.
There was nothing he could do as her son.
Leon glanced at Ivana beside him, her beautiful face expressionless as if she didn’t mind accompanying Leon’s mother to visit Mr. Pierce.
Guilt flashed in Leon’s eyes; his wife trusted him so much, believing he could help her deal with his mother’s trouble, but in the end, he let her down.
Ivana wasn’t aware of all the thoughts running through Leon’s mind in an instant. In fact, she never expected Leon to resolve the issue for her because she knew that the most difficult bond to sever in this world is family.
Mr. Pierce doted on his grandson and loved money, but he hadn’t done anything too hurtful to Leon’s mother, except when he got drunk and said some hurtful things regarding money.
However, those words seemed insignificant compared to Mr. Pierce’s hospitalization in old age.
So, Ivana knew that this trip to the hospital was inevitable.
"Tomorrow, I’ll go with you." Leon conceded.
"Your company has so much going on; there’s no need to accompany us. Ivana and I can go together." Seeing Leon relent, Leon’s mother was pleased.
Before Leon could say more, she ran over to pull Ivana’s hand: "Ivana, don’t you think so?"
Ivana felt goosebumps rise on her skin.
"Mm."
Ivana didn’t say much, only responded with an ambiguous "Mm."
"Leon, see, Ivana agreed."
Leon’s mother released Ivana’s hand, feeling uncomfortable. If not to show Leon, she wouldn’t have actively grabbed Ivana’s hand. This malicious woman actually despised her; she found her even more repulsive.
Sooner or later, she would tear off Ivana’s malicious mask.
The next day.
At XX hospital, in the hospital room.
Ivana and Leon’s mother had just walked in when they heard Mr. Pierce cursing.
"Look at the good wife you married and the good daughter you raised. I’m sick, and neither of them brings anything to see me. I bet even if I died, neither of them would come to take a look."
"Dad, haven’t I come? Shirley wasn’t feeling well today, and Sarah’s busy at work and couldn’t get time off. They both want to see you, but there’s just no way."
Peter Pierce tried hard to explain, his heart filled with bitterness. His wife was recently talking about divorce, and his daughter didn’t want to see him. A grown man, he could only secretly shed tears in his pillow at night.
Peter Pierce hoped Mr. Pierce could understand him and not give him more trouble.
Unfortunately, Mr. Pierce’s personality over the years, at his age, was completely unwavering. Moreover, as a patriarch who favored sons over daughters, the older he got, the more he wanted to arrange everything for his grandson; such selfishness would break through normal moral boundaries.
Peter Pierce, honest and sincere, never considered this.
"Excuses, all excuses. Peter, such a woman is not worth it, and such a daughter is useless. You should divorce!"
Mr. Pierce’s words shocked Peter Pierce.
"Dad~"
"I’ve told you long ago, daughters aren’t as reliable as sons, but you wouldn’t listen. Look at Jackie, he’s filial to his father and also to me as his grandfather. Every time I get sick, Jackie is the first to rush over."
"Then look at Sarah, the ingrate, she doesn’t come to see me when I’m sick. Even during the time I stayed at your place, she showed me attitude. Peter, do you think you can rely on her for old age support?"
"In my opinion, you’d be better off treating Jackie as your biological son. After the divorce, give all your property to Jackie, and rely on Jackie for your old age."
Preston and Lucas Pierce heard Mr. Pierce’s words, beaming with greed in their eyes.
Peter Pierce didn’t have much money, but having worked for so many years, he had saved hundreds of thousands! Most importantly, Peter Pierce’s house and land.
Initially, Mr. Pierce divided the dilapidated old house to Peter, while Preston’s family took the money and moved to the city. Over the years, Peter turned the old house into a five-story siheyuan, and it was rumored to be facing demolition soon.
Such a demolition would be a significant sum! Moreover, Peter had contracted dozens of acres of land back home, having locals help plant trees; a demolition would change his fate in an instant.
"Uncle, Grandpa is right, just treat me as your son! I will treat you as my own father and be filial to you." Lucas Pierce’s words were honeyed.
Filial piety was for later; the priority was to grab the money first.
Peter Pierce didn’t respond, no matter how bad his daughter was, she was still his raised girl. He couldn’t bear to part with her, nor did he want a divorce.
Besides, Sarah wasn’t that bad. She was quite filial, giving him and his wife each a set of clothes with her first month’s salary after graduating college.
