CHAPTER 478: CHAPTER 478: ONE BILLION

Preston Pierce and Lucas Pierce felt a chill in their hearts when they saw Peter Pierce’s silence, like a duck they almost caught flying away again.

"This matter is settled."

Mr. Pierce took Peter’s silence as agreement, not allowing him any room to maneuver.

Peter was shocked, "Dad, I haven’t agreed yet!"

Mr. Pierce glared at Peter, "I am your father, you should listen to my arrangements, I wouldn’t harm you."

Peter: "But..."

Mr. Pierce: "No buts, remember, no divorce settlement should give any property to her and her daughter. Your family’s ungrateful brat will get married sooner or later, giving her anything is like giving it away to the husband’s family. Don’t be foolish."

Ivana Monroe was speechless, Mr. Pierce was overreaching! He even wanted to seize another son’s property for Lucas Pierce.

Peter felt like crying but had no tears, and upon hearing someone’s footsteps, turned to see Leon’s mother and Ivana entering, hope kindled in his eyes.

"Fourth Sister."

Leon’s mother gave Peter a reassuring look, smiling as she addressed Mr. Pierce, "Dad, didn’t Leon just give the company and money to Jackie? Why ask my brother again? He’s worked so many years, saving a little money is not easy. Let him enjoy his retirement! The job market isn’t great now, with so many unemployed, having some savings is best."

Peter gratefully looked at Leon’s mother.

Mr. Pierce’s eyes darted around, not taking Leon’s mother’s bait. He had other plans. Once his goals were met, and Leon’s mother was gone, he would find another way to transfer Peter’s assets to Jackie.

Jackie was his precious grandson; everything from the Pierce family should belong to Jackie.

This unfilial son, Peter, was he still unwilling? Peter should consider that if it weren’t for him birthing him, where would he be today?

Seeing Ivana, Mr. Pierce’s eyes filled with anger, he deliberately said, "Why did you bring her here? Isn’t irritating me enough for you?"

Leon’s mother frowned; wasn’t it father’s idea to have Ivana come to apologize?

Now that Ivana was here, why was he dissatisfied?

Ivana smiled, seeing through Mr. Pierce, turned to Leon’s mother and said, "Mr. Pierce is quite old, I really shouldn’t upset him. If he gets sick from anger, I can’t take responsibility. I’ll be going now!"

Leon’s mother was stunned, just about to speak when Mr. Pierce spoke first.

"You stop right there."

As if Ivana would listen to him.

"Stop, stop, do you want to anger me to death?"

Mr. Pierce, furious, struggled to sit up despite his illness. If Ivana left, things would be difficult to resolve.

"Dad, don’t move! You’re not well, if your condition worsens, what will we do?"

It was Leon’s mother speaking.

Preston Pierce and Lucas Pierce didn’t persuade Mr. Pierce; their eyes anxiously fixed on Ivana, silently blaming Mr. Pierce.

Since she came, why say such things? Chasing Ivana away did them no good.

"Even if it worsens, it’s her fault. She’s deliberately against me, wanting to anger me to death," Mr. Pierce gasped.

Leon’s mother felt heartache.

"Ivana, stop right there."

She turned and angrily addressed Ivana.

Ivana had already opened the ward door, one step away from leaving when she stopped; not due to Leon’s mother’s anger, but because two people were at the door—Shirley Pearson and Sarah Pierce.

"Cousin-in-law," Sarah said, surprised, "You’re here too?"

Ivana smiled, "Looks like I came to the wrong place."

Sarah said nothing, stepping aside immediately to let her pass. She hadn’t wanted to come either, but after last night and this morning, her dad kept calling and messaging her.

After much thought, Sarah feared Mr. Pierce would pull some stunt, persuading Shirley Pearson to come with her.

Leon’s mother approached, grabbing Ivana by the arm and pulling her back in, "Didn’t you hear me tell you to stop?"

Leon’s mother was furious, glaring at Ivana, even wanting to hit her.

"Aunt."

Sarah and Shirley entered.

Sarah greeted Leon’s mother, then said, "Don’t blame Cousin-in-law. I was talking to her just now, maybe she didn’t hear you."

Didn’t hear it?

Sarah was a naïve girl who thought too well of the devious Ivana.

"Don’t forget why I asked you here. Apologize promptly."

Not wanting to argue with Ivana about earlier, Leon’s mother wanted Ivana to apologize quickly to dispel Mr. Pierce’s anger.

"Aunt, what happened exactly? Why should Cousin-in-law apologize?"

Sarah hadn’t called Mr. Pierce grandpa; if not for her dad, she wouldn’t want to see him again.

"Yes! If it’s nothing major, Aunt, don’t make it hard for Ivana," Shirley Pearson also sided with Ivana.

Leon’s mother frowned, giving Ivana a curious look. This vicious woman—why did Shirley Pearson and her daughter side with her?

"Shirley, Sarah, you two stay out of this. It’s my failure in upbringing that led to my daughter-in-law disrespecting her elders, upsetting Dad and landing him in the hospital."

Leon’s mother blamed Ivana for everything.

Peter was thrilled to see Shirley Pearson and Sarah arrive. His daughter had heed his messages; now with Shirley and Sarah here, father couldn’t force him to divorce and give everything to Jackie!

His assets were meant for his biological daughter. Jackie had enough and shouldn’t take more from his daughter.

"Hahaha..." Ivana suddenly laughed.

"What are you laughing at?"

Leon’s mother asked with an ugly expression.

"I think you’re quite funny. You asked me to come, I did. Mr. Pierce doesn’t want to see me. If I leave, he’s upset. You’re a hard family to serve."

Ivana said bluntly.

"I want you to apologize," Leon’s mother said through gritted teeth.

Ivana had never served her or Mr. Pierce; how dare she say they’re hard to serve?

If Ivana found the Kane family unbearable, she could leave!

Why didn’t she leave?

"Will everything be settled if I apologize?"

"You talk too much."

Leon’s mother glared at Ivana, feeling she was like a cunning fox. Whether things were resolved didn’t depend on her, but on her father’s satisfaction.

"I should at least know, right?"

Seeing that Leon’s mother couldn’t make the decision, Ivana looked at Mr. Pierce, and said meaningfully, "Mr. Pierce, did you call me just to apologize?"

"If so, I’ll apologize right away."

Mr. Pierce’s hand trembled, sensing Ivana wasn’t as easy to "deal with" as Leon’s mother. His eyes moved, and he said, "An apology must be sincere. Have Leon transfer a billion to Jackie’s account."
