CHAPTER 221: CHAPTER 221 REVISITING THE OLD PLACE (1)

"When did you start having someone follow me?" Mi Wan asked calmly, with no trace of displeasure or anger at being monitored visible on her face.

"After you divorced." Having lost her once, Ji Dongquan now cherished her more than ever, fearing that she might get hurt again. He sought to be as thorough as possible in every aspect and paid special attention to anything concerning Mi Wan.

"Then you should already know that I just met your mother and gave her a piece of my mind."

"Yes," Ji Dongquan replied in a deep voice.

"I can’t get along with her." Mi Wan stared straight at Ji Dongquan, her smooth oval face slightly tense, looking serious.

Since they chose to be together, some issues had to be faced together, and Shi Minjun was one of those issues they must confront—a major problem!

"I know." Not just Mi Wan; even he, as the son, couldn’t get along with her. Whenever the topic involved Mi Wan, mother and son would inevitably end up at odds.

Actually, a big part of Ji Dongquan’s personality was quite similar to Shi Minjun’s—equally stubborn and domineering, each sticking to their own beliefs and unwilling to yield. To break free from Shi Minjun’s dominant "control," Ji Dongquan had gradually undermined her leadership position in the Ji Family and QG over the years. So, Shi Minjun was no longer the overbearing leader she once was!

"Do you think it’s still necessary for us to be together?" Saying this, Mi Wan felt a sharp pang in her heart. But she and Shi Minjun were destined to be at odds, possibly never seeing eye to eye. Therefore, though reluctant, she didn’t want Ji Dongquan to be torn between her and Shi Minjun.

Being in love is a matter between two people, but building a family involves two families. Having once walked inside the siege, Mi Wan understood this all too well.

"Giving up before even trying? Wanwan, are you trying to push me away again?" Ji Dongquan’s face turned stern, his tea-colored eyes showing a heavy sense of gloom.

He had fought against death and was a strong person steering through storms, but facing a gentle and charming woman, Ji Dongquan couldn’t help but feel nervous and uneasy. It felt as if a chill was spreading from his heart, making him feel cold, as if his heart had lost its warmth.

"It’s not that I don’t want to try, but if it means hurting you to be together, I’d rather give up." To her, Shi Minjun might be an enemy, but to Ji Dongquan, no matter how excessive Shi Minjun’s actions were, she was still his mother, the person who gave him life.

As the saying goes, the grace of raising is greater than anything. He could never be an unfilial son, and she could never bow down to appease Shi Minjun. So, a chasm remained between them!

"Ultimately, you still don’t trust me enough, don’t care about me enough!" Ji Dongquan’s handsome face grew even more stern, his tea-colored eyes turning icy cold, reminiscent of a bone-chilling winter.

Mi Wan’s heart trembled. She said she didn’t want to hurt Ji Dongquan, but wasn’t her withdrawal precisely what was hurting him?

Once, it wasn’t just her who got hurt—he did too. They were both victims, and she should have understood his pain the most. Yet she had overlooked this.

Just back from a joyful trip, in less than two hours, all her light-hearted happiness was suppressed by heavy thoughts. Mi Wan suddenly felt it hard to breathe, worrying silently about Ji Dongquan.

Silence can sometimes be a terrifying atmosphere. Ji Dongquan eagerly awaited Mi Wan’s response, but it never came. From her complex gaze, he couldn’t discern her thoughts at all.

If she was determined to leave him, then...

He would absolutely not give up!

No matter how stubborn she was, he would make her change her mind!

Just as Ji Dongquan was thinking this, Mi Wan’s gentle voice broke the silence, spreading through the spacious room.

"Do you still have a lot of work to handle?"

Ji Dongquan was taken aback, completely caught off guard by Mi Wan’s change of topic.

"Then I’ll head back first." They had been out playing for a week, and without asking, she could tell a lot of work must have piled up. To avoid disturbing Ji Dongquan’s work, Mi Wan planned to leave first. But as soon as she got up, Ji Dongquan kicked his chair back sharply and grabbed her shoulder, eyes brimming with anger!

He thought Mi Wan was about to ditch him, hence his extreme agitation.

"You get back to work. We can talk when you have time." Mi Wan knew he had misunderstood, so she smiled, trying to ease his agitation.

"Let’s clear things up now." Otherwise, how could he focus on work! Ji Dongquan held onto Mi Wan’s shoulder firmly, his attitude resolute.

"If you’re willing to marry me, I agree." Mi Wan pulled a slight smile, her dimples appearing, looking stunningly beautiful.

Ji Dongquan froze again! The joy came too unexpectedly and completely contrary to what he had anticipated, leaving him utterly stunned!

Mi Wan watched his slightly dazed expression and said, "Changed your mind now?"

"I’m willing! Let’s go get the certificate right now!" Ji Dongquan said, extremely excited. He hurried around the office desk, took Mi Wan’s hand, and was about to drag her out, leaving his work behind, fearing she might change her mind the next second.

"It’s a holiday now; who’s going to issue the certificate!" Mi Wan stood her ground, finding Ji Dongquan’s eager manner amusing.

Not to mention it’s the Spring Festival holiday now, even if it weren’t, she’d still have to inform her parents and get the household registry. How could they just go get the certificate like this?

Reminded by Mi Wan, Ji Dongquan finally came back to his senses, but his excited mood continued to spread.

"Do you have plans this afternoon?" Ji Dongquan asked Mi Wan with a beaming smile, his excitement evident.

Upon hearing this, Mi Wan thought for a moment, then shook her head.

"Stay with me." Ji Dongquan pulled Mi Wan over to his office chair, sat down first, then placed Mi Wan on his lap.

Can he really work like this?

Mi Wan closed her eyes briefly and said, "Just got back. I’m tired. Let me sleep on the sofa for a while."

"Afraid I’ll eat you up?"

"Don’t you have work to do?"

"There’s a lounge inside; you can sleep in there." Ji Dongquan pointed to the tightly closed door and said.

"Okay." Mi Wan nodded, intending to get up and leave, but Ji Dongquan held her tight, pointing to his lips, indicating Mi Wan should kiss him.

And Mi Wan, being straightforward, wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him without hesitation.

After seven days of travel, the closest they had gotten was holding hands, so this kiss was like a long-awaited rain after a drought. The moment their lips touched, Ji Dongquan’s body ignited.
