CHAPTER 309: CHAPTER 309: INEXPLICABLY ELECTED AS THE REPRESENTATIVE (1)
"Hehe, it’s good I didn’t bother you." The worry on Su Aiping’s face faded, her gaze sweeping around the café before she looked at Mi Jing and smiled gracefully, "Your business here seems quite good, you must be busy, huh?"
"There are more people around this time, but it’s okay, not too busy." Mi Jing replied with a smile and then asked, "Mrs. Su, would you like something to eat?"
"Sigh, I don’t have an appetite today. I wonder if something’s wrong with my health. When I was in the car earlier, my chest felt so tight I could hardly breathe. It’s better now, but I still feel dizzy and uncomfortable." Su Aiping held her forehead and slowly sat back in the chair, massaging her head a few times, looking genuinely unwell.
"Shall I take you to the hospital?" Though Mi Jing was not very familiar with Su Aiping, she was, after all, Xing’er’s aunt. Technically, they were relatives, so naturally, Mi Jing couldn’t ignore her condition.
"No need to trouble yourself, I know my body well. It’s probably nothing too serious. I’ll just rest at home, and I should be fine." As she said this, Su Aiping’s eyes were half-closed, and her tone softened considerably, revealing a sense of frailty.
Seeing this, Mi Jing couldn’t help but worry and advised, "Mrs. Su, if you’re not feeling well, it’s best to see a doctor promptly. If there’s something really wrong, it can be treated quickly."
"I understand that." Su Aiping tugged at her mouth to force a smile, but it quickly faded, replaced by a bitter expression. Her well-maintained face suddenly seemed clouded over, "It’s been a long time since anyone cared about me like this. Jing, thank you."
At this moment, seeing Su Aiping’s distressed look, Mi Jing felt a complex mix of emotions. She wasn’t someone who was good at comforting others, not to mention she didn’t know Su Aiping well. She decided that remaining silent was the most appropriate response for now.
"..."
After a while of silence, Su Aiping suddenly gave an awkward smile, "I think I lost my composure. I hope I didn’t trouble you."
"Not at all." Mi Jing shook her head slightly and continued to persuade, "Mrs. Su, I really do have the time now. I can take you to the hospital."
"I’m really fine, no need to worry. Maybe it’s just because I played mahjong all night and didn’t sleep well." As she spoke, Su Aiping rubbed her forehead again, frowning deeply, looking very uncomfortable.
Played mahjong all night?
Hearing this, Mi Jing was quietly surprised, thinking, at her age, this was really not taking care of her health. But since they weren’t close, Mi Jing couldn’t say much.
"Well... how about you rest here for a while?" Mi Jing hesitated for a second before politely asking.
"Do you have a resting room here?" Su Aiping didn’t refuse but asked curiously.
"No," Mi Jing said, "but there’s a sofa on the balcony at the back. It’s quite comfortable to lie on if you don’t mind..."
"Of course, I don’t mind. Sometimes I sleep on the sofa at home too. It feels more comfortable than the bed. But will I be disturbing you if I rest here?"
"Not at all."
"Then let’s go..." As she spoke, Su Aiping made a move to stand up. But before she could straighten her legs, her body suddenly collapsed back into the chair.
Mi Jing was startled, noticing Su Aiping falling back, she instinctively reached out but wasn’t quick enough to support her, only able to watch her fall into the chair. After a moment of heart-pounding shock, Mi Jing regained her composure and asked with lingering fear, "Mrs. Su, are you okay?"
"I’m fine, just very dizzy." As she spoke, Su Aiping held onto the table and tried to stand up again.
Seeing this, Mi Jing’s heart raced, and she quickly stepped forward, "Mrs. Su, let me help you."
"No need, I can walk on my own." Su Aiping smiled weakly, looking frail.
"How can I let you walk alone like this?" Mi Jing sighed silently, and despite Su Aiping’s refusal, she insisted on supporting her to the balcony. Not until Su Aiping lay down on the sofa did Mi Jing leave.
After Mi Jing left, Su Aiping, who had closed her eyes, slowly opened them. At this moment, her eyes were clear, her complexion normal, not at all like someone who was unwell!
With a quick glance at the doorway to ensure no one was there, Su Aiping swiftly sat up, deftly removing the earring from her right ear and tossing it onto the sofa.
She did it so quickly and smoothly as if she had practiced countless times, completing the actions in mere seconds. Then, she lowered her head, her gaze sweeping over the sofa, searching meticulously for something.
"Mrs. Su, why are you up? Is it uncomfortable to sleep?"
The sudden voice behind startled Su Aiping, but she quickly regained her composure, a feigned look of weakness returning to her face. After pretending to be frightened, she slowly turned her head, patting her chest with her right hand, pretending to be startled, and said weakly, "Jing, why do you walk so quietly? You scared me!"
Walk so quietly? How is that possible!
She was wearing high heels, albeit with thick heels, but still made noticeable sounds. Perhaps she was too engrossed in her thoughts to hear.
With this thought, Mi Jing didn’t explain and said apologetically, "Sorry, Mrs. Su, I didn’t mean to."
"It’s alright, I was just startled easily." Su Aiping’s eyes flickered with unease, and then weakly asked, "Jing, why did you come back? Do you need something?"
Only after speaking did Su Aiping notice the cup in Mi Jing’s hand. She pursed her lips, wanting to say something to ease her earlier rashness, but upon seeing Mi Jing’s lack of displeasure, she held back.
"I brought you some water." Mi Jing didn’t find Su Aiping’s behavior strange. In her view, Su Aiping was both a patient needing care and an elder needing concern. So, she patiently placed the cup on the table while smiling, "Here you go."
"You’re very considerate, thank you." Su Aiping expressed her gratitude to Mi Jing with full sincerity.
Hearing this, Mi Jing smiled again, "You’re welcome, it’s no trouble at all."
"You’re really nice." Su Aiping seemed even more grateful, then she pretended to touch her right ear nonchalantly, as if recalling something, "My earring is missing. It might have fallen on the sofa. Sigh, I’m so dizzy and my vision is blurry, I couldn’t find it."
