CHAPTER 33: CHAPTER 33: HE SEEMS ANGRY

Just then, Silas Sheffield called.

Clara Sterling glanced at the caller ID and hung up.

She couldn’t let Isaac Sutton know that her marriage partner was Silas Sheffield.

They were in a hidden marriage, even the Sheffield Family didn’t know they were married, let alone Isaac Sutton.

Moreover, Isaac Sutton was still entangled with her, frequently changing numbers to harass her. She could endure this harassment, but she didn’t want Silas Sheffield to be harassed by Isaac Sutton too.

Seeing her hang up the phone, Isaac asked hoarsely, "Was it that man’s call? Why didn’t you answer?"

Clara Sterling didn’t answer, pulling away from Isaac Sutton’s hand, and said coldly, "Isaac Sutton, wasn’t it enough that you deceived and played with me before? I’ve started a new life now, and you’re still haunting me?"

Isaac Sutton’s eyes were filled with pain, his voice hoarse, "Clara, I really can’t live without you..."

Clara Sterling’s face was stern, "Isaac Sutton, don’t push me to hate you."

...

Clara Sterling left the clubhouse; it was already eleven o’clock at night.

The night wind was a bit chilly. She shivered slightly and called Silas Sheffield back.

"Where are you?" The man’s voice was filled with concern, "Why didn’t you answer the phone earlier?"

Hearing the concern in his words, Clara felt a bit guilty.

She should have sent a message to Silas Sheffield earlier.

Clara bit her lip and said, "There was something I had to deal with earlier, I’m heading back now."

Hearing Clara’s response, Silas Sheffield’s heart slowly settled.

He let out an almost imperceptible sigh of relief.

Thankfully, nothing happened to her.

Silas Sheffield asked, "Where are you? I’ll come pick you up."

Clara was surprised, "Silas, you’ve returned to Veridian?"

"Yes." The man’s voice was still cool, "I’m outside looking for you now."

Hearing this, Clara Sterling felt even guiltier.

"I’m on Elandor Road," Clara looked around, "at Starlight Clubhouse."

She had just left the clubhouse and to prevent Isaac from following her, Clara Sterling specifically hid behind a pillar in the lobby for a while. Only after seeing Isaac Sutton drive away did she leave the clubhouse.

This clubhouse was on Elandor Road; Clara Sterling was on the phone while walking, and stopped at a spot where a car could park, standing there obediently waiting for Silas Sheffield.

About ten minutes later, Silas Sheffield’s car stopped in front of her.

The car window rolled down, and Clara Sterling saw that Silas Sheffield was the only one inside.

He had personally come to find her.

Clara Sterling opened the car door and got into the passenger seat, "Sorry, Silas, for not informing you in advance and making you worry."

"It’s fine, there’s no need to apologize," Silas Sheffield replied, his expression unchanged.

Clara asked, "Why did you suddenly return to Veridian?"

Because I wanted to see you.

This sentence almost left Silas Sheffield’s lips, but he held it back.

With his eyes on the road, his cool and composed profile was deep as always, "There are some projects at the branch office here that need my personal inspection."

"Oh, I see." Clara nodded, "When did you arrive?"

"Not long ago."

"Oh."

Clara Sterling hesitated whether to tell Silas Sheffield she had just seen Isaac Sutton.

After thinking it over, it didn’t seem necessary, since she had made things clear to Isaac Sutton, he shouldn’t hassle her anymore, right?

Moreover, she and Silas Sheffield were only married by agreement, telling him she saw her ex-boyfriend today seemed odd.

Silas Sheffield was so busy every day, how could he have the leisure to care about such trivial matters?

Clara Sterling eventually decided not to tell Silas Sheffield about Isaac Sutton.

But there was one thing she couldn’t figure out, how did Isaac Sutton find her?

During her time in Veridian, she hadn’t told her college classmates she was there. Only the Sheffield Family and the neighbor, Auntie Walsh, knew she was in Veridian.

Not to mention the Sheffield Family didn’t know Isaac Sutton, even if they did, they wouldn’t disclose her whereabouts to him.

She had previously called and informed neighbor Auntie Walsh not to tell Isaac she was in Veridian. She was confident it wasn’t Auntie Walsh who revealed it.

So who could it be?

At a red light, Silas Sheffield habitually glanced at Clara Sterling, seeing her lost in thought with her eyes downcast, looking troubled.

"Something on your mind?"

Clara snapped back to reality, "No."

Silas Sheffield studied her for a moment, then turned away without saying anything.

...

Back at the villa, Silas Sheffield received a phone call.

"President Sheffield, the hospital’s surveillance video has been sent to you."

Silas Sheffield had been worried about Clara Sterling, so when he went out to find her, he had called the hospital to get the surveillance footage.

He had just arrived home when he received the videos from the hospital.

Silas Sheffield parked the car in the villa’s yard, watching the surveillance videos on his phone as he walked in.

The video was split into several clips.

Silas Sheffield opened the first one, which was the surveillance of the hallway outside a hospital ward.

He saw Clara Sterling coming out of a ward and heading towards the elevator.

The surveillance footage from the elevator also appeared normal.

Silas Sheffield’s long, cold-white fingers tapped open the third video, his fingertips suddenly pausing.

In the video, just as Clara Sterling stepped out of the hospital entrance, a man approached and grabbed her wrist.

Silas Sheffield’s eyes flashed sharply.

He had seen this man’s face and silhouette many times in Clara Sterling’s social media posts.

Watching Clara Sterling get into the car with Isaac Sutton, Silas Sheffield’s breath hitched for two seconds.

He lifted his eyes to the girl walking ahead not far away, the watery night casting a shadow over his dark eyes.

An almost imperceptible crack appeared in Silas Sheffield’s usually icy demeanor.

He discreetly put away his phone and followed Clara Sterling into the house.

As soon as Sophie Sheffield saw Clara Sterling, she jumped up from the sofa, "Clara, where did you go? How come you’re back so late? My brother came back and didn’t see you, he was worried sick and even drove out to find you."

Just then, Silas Sheffield walked in through the door.

Sophie Sheffield gave a suggestive look, "As soon as my brother came back, the first thing he did was ask about you. Seeing you not back yet, he was so worried."

Clara Sterling stammered, "I... got held up with something..."

She turned to look at Silas Sheffield, apologizing once more, "Sorry, Silas, for worrying you."

The slight distancing made Silas Sheffield’s brows twitch almost imperceptibly, his tone frosty, "It’s fine."

Leaving those two words, Silas Sheffield said nothing more and walked past Clara Sterling, heading straight upstairs.

Watching his back as he ascended, Clara Sterling felt he seemed to be upset.

It was strange; she had never seen Silas Sheffield angry, but her instincts told her he was unhappy now.

Although he usually had a cold demeanor, the chill he was emitting now felt different from usual.

"Clara, when did you and my brother become so close?" Sophie Sheffield looked intrigued, nudging Clara Sterling with her elbow, "I’ve never seen him so worried about anyone before."
