Flirted Wrong, Married Right
Chapter 101: Don’t Listen to Her Nonsense
CHAPTER 101: CHAPTER 101: DON’T LISTEN TO HER NONSENSE
"Iris Lockwood, drinking poison to quench thirst is futile. If he really wanted to marry you, he would’ve done so already. Do you still believe his lies?"
"He exposed your affair with Sheldon Zane, which only hurts you. This gives him an excuse to dump you legitimately. Is this really an act of love?"
Evelyn Clayton’s analysis was calm and clear, leaving Iris Lockwood’s warmth steadily diminishing.
Meanwhile, Jasper Grant sat silently to the side, his gaze occasionally sweeping over Evelyn Clayton, as if considering something.
Even though she was reluctant to admit it, Evelyn Clayton was indeed spot on.
"Think carefully, Matthew Sullivan treats you like this, do you still want to be with him? Is he worth it?"
Just as Iris Lockwood was about to make up her mind, someone suddenly barged in.
"I heard you guys were arguing, so I came to check." Matthew Sullivan went straight to Evelyn Clayton, showing gentle and caring concern, "Evelyn, are you hurt?"
"She’s the one with issues." Evelyn Clayton skillfully avoided Matthew Sullivan’s hand.
Matthew Sullivan’s expression froze as he looked at Jasper Grant, scolding, "How did this happen? As soon as big brother left, the company turned into chaos. Don’t you have any ability to manage the company? If you can’t, hand over the management rights to me quickly!"
"What’s your rush? Clearly, someone is deliberately causing trouble, how does that relate to my management ability?" Jasper Grant sneered.
Evelyn Clayton was surprised by Matthew Sullivan’s brazenness.
She originally thought he just wanted to get rid of Iris Lockwood, but it turns out he also intends to seize the company’s management rights.
How many traps had Matthew Sullivan laid to take this step?
"But the fact is, the stock price dropped a lot within the past hour. The board is very upset now. You must do something to stabilize them, right?" Matthew Sullivan pressed persistently.
Evelyn Clayton shot him a glance brimming with sarcasm.
"If left to you, can you solve it?"
Matthew Sullivan feigned heartbreak, looking at her, "Evelyn, you’re my fiancée. Why don’t you support me?"
Evelyn Clayton couldn’t be bothered to respond.
Matthew Sullivan then glanced at the unusually quiet Iris Lockwood, normally she would speak up for him, but today she was silent.
"Iris, say something fair."
Iris Lockwood kept her head down, silent for a long time before speaking, "I think Evelyn Clayton has a point."
Now, Matthew Sullivan was nearly exploding with anger.
"Iris, now you’re not standing by me either, are you?"
Matthew Sullivan took a deep breath, "Fine! Just consider that I trusted the wrong person before."
Seeing his disappointed look, Iris Lockwood started to waver again.
But Jasper Grant and Evelyn Clayton remained indifferent, silently watching Matthew Sullivan’s performance.
"Marcus, did you know all along about my private encounters with Sheldon Zane?" Iris Lockwood cautiously asked.
"Yes. I knew, but so what? I thought you two were having normal interactions, so I never mentioned it."
Evelyn Clayton truly admired Matthew Sullivan’s skill in lying with a straight face.
She had seen the photos leaked by the media, several taken at spots Iris Lockwood frequented.
If it wasn’t someone close to her leaking the info, how did the media know where to stake out?
Iris Lockwood reignited her hope, "Then do you believe me?"
"Of course, I believe you. I’ve always considered you a good friend. Don’t worry, I’ll do my utmost to help resolve this issue for you."
There exist such shameless people in this world.
Evelyn Clayton sneered, "Good friend? The kind you sleep with?"
"Evelyn, that was an accident. I explained to you." Matthew Sullivan’s attitude was noticeably more ingratiating towards Evelyn Clayton.
Watching this scene made Iris Lockwood even more heartbroken.
She spoke in a shaky, tearful voice.
"But that’s not what you told me! You said you would break off your engagement with Evelyn Clayton and then be with me. You said you just wanted to trick her into marriage!"
Hearing this, Matthew Sullivan’s face turned pale, and he waved his hands vigorously, "Evelyn! It’s not like that! Don’t listen to her nonsense!"
Now Evelyn Clayton really wanted to pry open Iris Lockwood’s mind, to see if it’s just empty.
"Iris Lockwood, do you even believe your own words? Who would leave the person they love to marry someone else? He isn’t marrying you because he doesn’t want to, period!"
Iris Lockwood instinctively wanted to argue back, but upon trying to speak, she couldn’t find the words to counter.
"Good advice falls on deaf ears. If you still want to believe his words, then I won’t waste my breath. I’m going to work."
Evelyn Clayton turned and walked away.
Seeing Evelyn Clayton about to leave, Matthew Sullivan hurriedly clutched his chest, holding her sleeve with a pained expression.
"Evelyn, my chest feels awful! Please help me look at it..."
Evelyn Clayton could tell at a glance that he was acting and unceremoniously shook him off.
"I’m not a doctor. Iris, go call 911 and have them take him away."
