Flirted Wrong, Married Right
Chapter 118: Where Is Your Sincerity?
CHAPTER 118: CHAPTER 118: WHERE IS YOUR SINCERITY?
The words fell on deaf ears, and Clara Yates was so anxious that she didn’t care about her demeanor anymore. She hurriedly ran forward, grabbing James Grant’s hand, and pleaded with tears in her voice: "James, I was wrong. I shouldn’t have targeted Miss Clayton... Please forgive me, for old times’ sake, just this once?"
She was completely at a loss.
After all, she was just a pampered heiress used to flaunting her power in front of others, self-assured that whatever she wanted was hers for the taking. She had forgotten there were people beyond her reach.
James Grant shook off her hand, his gaze at Clara Yates as icy as ever: "Not pretending anymore?"
Clara Yates’s lips trembled.
She wanted to retort, but anything she said now would be seen as "making excuses."
The atmosphere grew increasingly thick.
Unintentionally meeting Evelyn Clayton’s gaze, she instinctively puffed out her chest and lifted her chin.
All Evelyn Clayton could feel was irony.
She was the victim, yet Clara Yates was apologizing to James Grant, seeking his forgiveness.
Couldn’t even tell primary from secondary, foolish and blissfully ignorant.
Evelyn Clayton found it hard to imagine, had Clara Yates really never been put in her place for her arrogant behavior?
"I didn’t, I was just—"
Evelyn Clayton interrupted her coldly: "You just thought it wasn’t necessary, a person without power and influence blocked your path, so you bullied her. As for the consequences, you didn’t care at all."
Why should she care?
Deep down, Clara Yates looked down on Evelyn Clayton, an ordinary lower-class person with some looks at best, the kind destined to struggle in life’s quagmire forever!
Yet fate was playing tricks, allowing Evelyn Clayton to lever into the upper class with a single heart, and even compete with her for a man in the end.
Utterly ridiculous!
If James Grant hadn’t intervened, she wouldn’t have ended up in such a miserable state!
Evelyn Clayton could guess more than a little of what Clara Yates was thinking just by her expression.
"There’s nothing to say between us. If Miss Yates doesn’t think I’m worthy of your apology, then let’s leave it at that."
To Clara Yates, these words translated automatically into Evelyn Clayton compromising.
She was instantly delighted and was about to speak, but James Grant’s cold glance stopped her in her tracks.
"What’s Miss Yates so happy about?" James Grant spoke up, laced with sarcasm: "Did you forget I was here?"
Lynn Yates rushed over, only to find the situation had not improved but worsened, an anger shot up to her temples.
A person who does nothing but screw things up!
"Miss Clayton, I’m truly sorry to have made you a laughingstock." Lynn Yates shot a fierce glare at Clara Yates, her tone apologetic: "This happened due to the Yates Family’s lack of proper discipline. Once we return, I will ensure that she receives heavy punishment!"
Truly a shrewd businesswoman, not at all on the same level as Clara Yates.
Evelyn Clayton considered the weight of her words.
James Grant, who had been silent for a long time, was straightforward: "Where’s your sincerity?"
Lynn Yates was momentarily stunned but quickly replied: "I’ll cut off her financial resources. If Miss Clayton doesn’t want to see her, I have the authority to ground her. Additionally, I personally promise Miss Clayton, as long as the request is not excessive."
Clara Yates looked at Lynn Yates in disbelief.
The latter’s eyes were resolute, while Evelyn Clayton hesitantly glanced at James Grant, whose expression had softened slightly.
This was a personal conflict between her and Clara Yates, not a confrontation between the Grant and Yates families.
"All I need is for Clara Yates to sincerely apologize to me, nothing more." The Yates Family isn’t insignificant, and Evelyn Amber didn’t want James Grant to antagonize them because of her.
