Flirted Wrong, Married Right
Chapter 22: Push Me Too Far and I’ll Take You Down with Me
CHAPTER 22: CHAPTER 22: PUSH ME TOO FAR AND I’LL TAKE YOU DOWN WITH ME
James Grant bent down, placing his hands on her knees, looking her in the eye. Those deep dark eyes seemed to hold some mysterious power, drawing one in if not careful.
"During our marriage, you have to keep your distance from other men."
This request wasn’t unreasonable, but the problem was, it was James Grant who was making it.
Evelyn Clayton sneered, "What about you? Before you make demands, shouldn’t you clean up your own act first?"
"I just agreed to one of your requests," James Grant replied matter-of-factly.
Evelyn retorted, "So you can break the rules, but I can’t even light a candle? Why should I agree to such an unequal treaty?"
"It’s not an unequal treaty." James Grant explained patiently, "Normally, after marriage, it’s natural to live as a couple, but I’ve relinquished part of that right, so you should show some gesture too, right? I’m just asking you to keep a distance from other men, not depriving you of the right to make friends."
Nonsense!
Evelyn rolled her eyes, not wanting to argue with someone twisting the truth.
"Where are my clothes? Give them back."
James Grant pursed his lips and got up to find a waiter to dry her clothes.
Half an hour later, Evelyn changed into her clothes and refused James Grant’s offer to drive her, leaving by taxi on her own.
James wanted to catch up with her, but a waiter approached him.
"Director Grant, young Mr. Donovan was also staying in the clubhouse last night, and said he has something to tell you once you’re awake."
Sitting in the taxi, Evelyn felt drowsy.
When she woke up, the sky was just beginning to light up, and by the time she reached her apartment gate, it was fully bright.
She felt better after having breakfast.
But seeing Iris Lockwood instantly plummeted her good mood.
"Evelyn Clayton! Stop right there!" Iris, with her keen eyes, rushed over to block her path.
Evelyn frowned at her, "Spit it out."
She’s in a hurry to catch up on sleep; she never knew a hangover could be this unbearable.
"Didn’t you go to the Grant Family yesterday? What did Uncle Grant say?"
Evelyn loved seeing Iris in this pathetic state.
She sneered, "He didn’t agree. Uncle Grant wants me to spend another three months with Matthew Sullivan."
Iris was exasperated, "You’re doing this on purpose! Are you still hoping to marry Matthew Sullivan, is that it?"
"Give me a break. That trash should be yours to enjoy. I can’t be bothered to spend another three months with him; it’s a stain on my eyes!"
But in Iris’s eyes, Evelyn was simply pretending to be noble.
"Evelyn Clayton, remember what you promised me, or you can forget about getting your dad’s watch back!"
"Stop using that to threaten me. Push me too far, and I’ll make sure your whole family joins my dad in the grave." The warmth in Evelyn’s eyes vanished instantly.
"Hmph... what’s so special about that? It’s just a broken watch. What can I do?" Iris didn’t want to admit she felt a little weak-kneed, swallowing hard. "Anyway, no matter what you have to do, the engagement must be canceled!"
After finishing, Iris made a hasty retreat as if Evelyn would eat her alive.
So timid, yet trying to imitate others in making threats.
Evelyn chuckled softly, heading back home.
She reached the door, only to see Yara Reagan.
"Evelyn, just got back?" Yara was surprised.
Evelyn nodded and opened the door.
Yara, quite at home, poured herself a glass of water. "Why didn’t you answer your phone last night?"
"Phone died last night." Evelyn lazily flopped onto the sofa. "I don’t feel like working today, can you cover?"
"No problem. But you must go tomorrow. A major client contacted me urgently last night, wanting you to take over. This deal potentially brings in this much." Yara excitedly gestured a digit.
This reward was already considerable for them.
