CHAPTER 23: CHAPTER 23: ARE YOU SICK? WHY BUY MEDICINE?

Evelyn Clayton was satisfied, "When do you need the proposal?"

"The client will contact us tomorrow. He’s quite easygoing, but he has one requirement—this project must be handled entirely by you."

Although Evelyn was new to the industry, her bold creativity and diligent work had earned her a bit of a reputation, so the client’s request wasn’t entirely unexpected.

She nodded, "I’ll rest well today and make sure to satisfy the client tomorrow."

Yara Reagan nodded, and as she set down her water cup, something seemed to suddenly occur to her, "Evelyn, where were you last night? Didn’t you say you were going to the Grant Family to negotiate? Why didn’t you come home all night?"

"Uh... it’s a long story..."

Evelyn couldn’t explain it clearly at the moment and decided to send Yara off for now.

She pulled Yara to the door, "Yara, you go home first. I’m exhausted, let me sleep, okay? I’ll find you and explain everything when I wake up."

"Wait!"

Yara blocked the door at the last second.

"Evelyn, did you stay with James Grant last night?"

Evelyn looked embarrassed but didn’t deny it.

Yara couldn’t hide her gossip-loving nature and concern.

"Well... Evelyn... I can’t meddle in your affairs with James Grant. But I advise you, make sure to take precautions, you mustn’t get pregnant so early. We still need to focus on our careers..."

The more she spoke, the more ridiculous it got, leaving Evelyn overwhelmed, but she agreed readily.

"Okay, okay, I’ll buy the medication later."

"Make sure you remember, you absolutely cannot have his child, or the consequences will be beyond what you can bear," Yara warned worriedly before leaving.

That warning temporarily drove away Evelyn’s drowsiness.

She pondered for a moment and had to admit Yara made a valid point.

Although nothing happened last night, and the previous two times were during her safe period, but...

No, it’s better to be safe than sorry. She decided to buy some medication to keep at home just in case.

James Grant wasn’t as simple as he appeared, so it was better to be cautious.

As for her earlier hidden expectations, she’d already kicked them to the corner.

She used a delivery app to buy a variety of contraceptives from the nearby pharmacy. The pharmacy even called to confirm, asking if she wanted a bit of every brand.

"Yes, please deliver them quickly," she replied, feeling both tired and anxious.

She just waited for the delivery person to bring the medicine so she could have a secure sleep.

But she didn’t expect James Grant to arrive with the medication.

"Miss Clayton, here’s your medication, please take it," the delivery person handed the package to Evelyn politely before heading off to his next delivery.

James Grant was holding an insulated bag, his eyes fixed on the package in Evelyn’s hand.

"Are you sick? Why did you buy so much medicine?"

"None of your business. What are you doing here?"

Evelyn tossed and kicked the bag to the side, giving him no chance to inquire further.

James Grant’s gaze grew deeper, silent for a moment, then he remarked—

"Don’t take those contraceptives."

Evelyn was surprised, her face instantly flushed, "Is it any of your concern?"

"I’m your future husband, it’s only right for me to be concerned. Anyway, you can’t take those pills, I’m not joking!" James Grant’s tone was a bit stern, which made Evelyn uncomfortable.

"James Grant, don’t take yourself too seriously. I’m willing to marry you, but I never said I’d have your children."

James Grant was silent, his dark lashes covering the unusual emotions in his eyes.

He wanted to argue back, but when he opened his mouth, he couldn’t form a complete sentence.

Right now, he indeed couldn’t assure her about having a child.

"James Grant, let’s not beat around the bush. I don’t think you’ll make a qualified father. So from now on, please don’t interfere in my personal affairs." Evelyn’s eyes turned cold, and her words were blunt.

Without waiting for James Grant to defend himself, Evelyn already shut him outside the door.
