Chapter 37: They’re All Lunatics
CHAPTER 37: CHAPTER 37: THEY’RE ALL LUNATICS
"I see. Amber, you play by yourself, I have something to do."
"What is it?"
Amber Whitman constantly reminded herself that James Grant treated her specially only because she was his mother’s family, so she couldn’t act rashly.
But Evelyn Clayton’s smug look was so annoying, she couldn’t control her resentful gaze.
Why? The place in James’ brother’s arms was hers!
"Amber, don’t make trouble. Uncle is also here today, you don’t want to be lectured, right?"
Amber Whitman stepped forward to hold onto James Grant’s other arm: "How could that be? You and Dad are the men who love me the most in the world, you won’t tell on me to him, and he can’t bear to scold me."
As she spoke, she observed Evelyn Clayton’s expression.
She thought it would provoke Evelyn’s jealousy, but unexpectedly, Evelyn was indifferent.
James Grant ignored Amber Whitman, instead pointing to a man not far away for Evelyn Clayton to see, taking the opportunity to pull his hand away.
"That’s Keith Donovan, go say hello. Hmm?"
"Does it have to be now? My foot really hurts."
"Be good, just hold on a bit longer. Accompany me on stage to show your face, then I’ll let you go rest."
James Grant planted a kiss on Evelyn Clayton’s face.
She froze for a second, then quietly placed her hand on James Grant’s waist and gave it a hard pinch.
In the next moment, she was satisfied to hear James Grant take a sharp breath.
"Alright." Evelyn Clayton smiled with delight.
Amber Whitman was so angry she was about to cry, she was now convinced that James’ brother must have been bewitched by Evelyn Clayton.
Otherwise, how could he completely ignore her!
Harrison Grant delivered a speech on stage, and after it ended, a spotlight shone on James Grant.
He immediately smiled, motioning for Evelyn Clayton to take his arm.
Acting out the whole play, Evelyn Clayton gracefully took James Grant’s arm, walking with him onto the stage, appearing as a perfect match.
Harrison Grant on the business stage showed a hint of displeasure in his eyes, but quickly suppressed it, handing the microphone to James Grant.
"Thank you all for coming to the banquet tonight. This event is to celebrate the fundraising of ten million for the charity foundation established by my late mother Wendy Whitman. She devoted her life to developing charitable causes, and I will fulfill her wishes, together with Evelyn Clayton beside me, to help more people."
James Grant mentioned everyone but Harrison Grant, who was standing on stage.
On stage, Harrison Grant’s face remained composed, but after stepping down, he lost his temper in the lounge.
"Husband, don’t be upset. Hasn’t James always been like this? But this time it was so excessive, making you lose face in front of so many people." Shirley Owens gently patted Harrison Grant’s back, a gleam in her eyes.
"Does he even see me as his father?! This foundation was started by Wendy, but how many years has she been dead? Now being able to raise money, isn’t it all thanks to my reputation!"
Harrison Grant grabbed a vase beside him and smashed it violently.
Shirley Owens quickly said, "Husband, it’s not worth it to harm your health over an ungrateful child. Who remembers Wendy now? Only James keeps thinking about his mother. But he doesn’t even consider, who raised him? It was you!"
"I see him as a debt collector! Pulling this stunt, and bringing Evelyn Clayton on stage, what does he mean by that! Tonight there is—" Harrison Grant, though furious, regained his composure at the last moment.
"Who’s here tonight?"
"A major client of mine, don’t ask anymore. Just make sure you keep an eye on them, don’t let them make a fool of us again. I want tonight’s charity banquet to be splendid and attract the whole city’s attention! All the journalists are outside, if it gets messed up, I’ll hold you accountable!"
After giving his instructions, Harrison Grant left the lounge.
Shirley Owens muttered irritably, "Blaming me doesn’t help, James Grant is just as crazy as his mother. Who could control him?"
