Flirted Wrong, Married Right
Chapter 41: I’m So in Awe
CHAPTER 41: CHAPTER 41: I’M SO IN AWE
Evelyn Clayton vaguely felt that Keith Donovan was usually quite reserved around people, so he could only truly let loose in private. Otherwise, who would have guessed from his demeanor at the party that he had transformed the basement into a high-class gaming cafe?
"I’ve updated all the equipment to the latest and greatest. It was just installed this afternoon. Anyone want to join me for the first game?"
Everyone except Evelyn Clayton and James Grant raised their hands.
Keith Donovan picked out two people: "Let’s play the duo battle mode. I’ll team up with James Grant."
The two immediately groaned: "You and James Grant as a team? Is there any chance left for us? This isn’t fair!"
"Isn’t James Grant’s girlfriend here today? We’ve got to give James Grant some respect. You’ll get your chance next time."
"Get out of here!"
James Grant had Evelyn Clayton sit next to him, and the people around them immediately started teasing.
"Come on, give me a lucky kiss to start the buff." James Grant pointed at his face, raising his eyebrows at Evelyn Clayton.
She finally understood that James Grant just enjoyed being teased like this.
This cheeky man!
"Ha ha, alright." Evelyn Clayton intentionally gave him a hard peck and smiled through her teeth, "You better win, or else you’re in trouble!"
Shawn Donovan rubbed his arms covered in goosebumps: "Alright, you two enough already. Will someone think about us single folks!"
The game started, and James Grant and Keith Donovan instantly got into the zone.
One moment they were joking around, the next they were serious, eyes fixed on the screen.
The game they were playing was the most popular e-sports game on the market, though the version was more advanced.
James Grant’s control was smooth as silk, perfectly in sync with Keith Donovan.
James Grant was the main striker, Keith Donovan provided support, nearly pushing the opponents to a corner.
They advanced into the dungeon and faced off against the final boss. Keith Donovan’s character entered a skill cooldown.
He looked a bit anxious and turned to James Grant.
"Are you okay?"
"I’m okay."
Just as he finished speaking, James Grant pulled off a stunning reversal, slashing through and instantly defeating the boss, dropping its health bar to zero.
"Oh my god! Did you all see that? That was some god-level gameplay!"
"I couldn’t even see clearly, and the game was over."
"James Grant, do it again!"
James Grant dropped the mouse and laughed: "The boss is dead, how can I do it again."
Then he turned to Evelyn Clayton and asked: "How about it? Did you get it?"
"I wouldn’t understand it if I were a fool." Evelyn Clayton was unsatisfied with James Grant’s underestimation.
"Ahem." James Grant lightly coughed to remind her there were many people around.
Reluctantly, Evelyn Clayton changed her tone and put on a fake smile: "That was amazing! I’m so impressed!"
Seeing her unwillingness, James Grant handed the game controller towards her.
"Why don’t you give it a try?"
"Hmm?"
Evelyn Clayton thought he was joking.
But James Grant had already stood up from his seat, beckoning her over: "Come here."
"Oh."
Evelyn Clayton went over and sat down.
"Which one do you want to play? How about this one Keith and I just played, okay?"
"Sure."
The starting level can be set to [Easy], [Medium], [Hard].
James Grant, understanding Evelyn Clayton doesn’t play e-sports, wanted to choose the easy mode.
But Evelyn Clayton said: "No need to change it. Whatever mode you guys played earlier, we’ll play it too."
"We played on Hard earlier, it’s not very friendly to newcomers." James Grant patiently explained, "It’s your first time playing, there’s no need to choose the hardest one."
"Eldest Young Master Grant feeling pity?" Shawn Donovan teased, "If Evelyn wants to play, let her play. Isn’t there you to guide her?"
"Alright. Hard it is then."
Many people were waiting to see a joke, knowing James Grant could take women drinking, singing karaoke, dining, traveling, but he never played games with them. Evelyn Clayton broke new ground.
They knew James Grant was impatient, so they were especially keen to see how long he would last before getting frustrated.
Shawn Donovan even started a betting pool in the group chat—
Place your bets, and let’s see how long before James Grant starts cursing. Ten minutes, half an hour, or an hour.
