Flirted Wrong, Married Right
Chapter 52: Uncovering Clues
CHAPTER 52: CHAPTER 52: UNCOVERING CLUES
But Harrison Grant usually cared for her like family.
If all of that was just an act, then Harrison Grant is too good at hiding his true nature, very scheming.
But if he’s not pretending, why would he say something belittling about her and her father?
Especially her father, who gave him the heart, after all.
Evelyn Clayton felt she was enveloped in a fog.
The green light turned on, and James Grant pressed the accelerator, casually saying: "My dad is just like that, always pretending to be very amiable in front of others."
Evelyn’s eyes slightly moved, but she didn’t speak.
If she hadn’t unintentionally overheard today, she would never have known Harrison Grant actually had such a private attitude towards her.
"For these years, he’s been attending charity marathons to maintain his good image."
Marathons?!
Harrison clearly has a heart condition, how could he possibly participate in marathons?
Evelyn lowered her gaze, suppressing the shock in her eyes, pondering over the implication of James Grant’s words.
James Grant’s words gave her two pieces of information: one, Harrison Grant is a very self-centered person; two, Harrison Grant seems healthy.
This is quite odd since a person with a transplanted heart wouldn’t dare engage in strenuous activity, let alone running a marathon. The transplanted heart is more fragile than the original one, requiring careful nurturing.
Many people, after a heart transplant, gasp for air just from walking an extra few steps.
Evelyn was filled with questions, oblivious to James Grant’s several glances at her.
"Why are you suddenly so concerned about my dad’s health?"
"Isn’t it normal to be concerned about elders?" Evelyn turned her head, "After my dad passed away, I received a lot of favors from Uncle Grant, so it’s only right to be concerned about him."
"You’re more filial than us."
Evelyn couldn’t tell if this was praise or sarcasm, so she just smiled.
"From now on, have less private contact with my dad, preferably when I’m around."
"Why, are you afraid I’ll bully him?"
If not for driving, James would have stopped to knock her head.
"You bullying him or him bullying you? Silly."
This was the first time James called her silly, making Evelyn indignant, "Yet you still want to collaborate with me?"
"Yes, it’s easier to handle collaboration with a silly person."
"Can you drive faster? If I could drive, I definitely wouldn’t go this slow."
Evelyn was almost suspecting he was doing it on purpose, driving so slowly that she couldn’t go home to rest.
James deliberately pressed the accelerator harder as if to provoke her, and the speed instantly surged to eighty miles per hour.
Evelyn gritted her teeth and tightly gripped the seatbelt.
James Grant, just you wait!
...
Early in the morning, Yara Reagan received a message from Evelyn saying she was going to rest today and rushed to her house.
Seeing Evelyn come to the door with sleepy eyes, Yara covered her mouth, feeling she had uncovered some remarkable secret.
"Evelyn, you and James Grant again—"
"Stop, hold it, Miss Reagan, don’t imagine some nonsense with no logic." Evelyn tapped Yara’s head, "Did you not watch the news this morning?"
"I did. Cindy Owens apologized, she admitted the suicide event was self-directed and self-produced."
Evelyn fell onto the sofa without even opening her eyes.
"I was dealing with this matter last night, it took until midnight to finish. I’m exhausted."
"No wonder, I thought you and James Grant again..."
"Again what?" Evelyn raised an eyebrow, signaling her to continue.
"Nothing, nothing." Yara laughed awkwardly, "Alright, to reward you, I’ve decided to take you out for a meal."
"Thanks, but no need."
No matter how much Evelyn refused, she couldn’t resist Yara’s enthusiasm, and she reluctantly changed her clothes and appeared at the mall.
After walking a few steps, a voice suddenly sounded from behind.
"Evelyn!"
