Flirted Wrong, Married Right
Chapter 556: Detained
CHAPTER 556: CHAPTER 556: DETAINED
Evelyn Clayton coldly looked over, and saw Felicia Preston grabbing Rhys Jacobs’ arm, hair disheveled and face distorted.
Standing beside them was her husband, David Lawrence.
The man who at first glance seemed tall and strong, had a simple and dull expression on his face, just watching his wife, neither stopping her nor acting as crazy as his wife.
There were quite a few people gathered around to watch the commotion, mostly from other companies upstairs and downstairs, currently pointing fingers at Felicia Preston.
Rhys Jacobs frowned deeply, trying to say something to Felicia amidst the chaos, but she seemed not to understand, wailing and repeating the same few phrases.
Evelyn Clayton strode over and, taking advantage of Felicia not noticing her, grabbed her wrist.
Felicia Preston abruptly turned her head, and upon seeing Evelyn Clayton, her cloudy eyes suddenly brightened.
"It’s her! It’s her! She’s the boss of my daughter’s company!" Felicia shouted dryly, though her eyes showed no tears. "It’s this heartless boss who forced our daughter to death..."
Immediately, the people around turned their gazes towards Evelyn Clayton, some curious, some worried, but mostly excited by the spectacle.
But Evelyn Clayton paid no attention to the looks she was receiving, simply lowering her eyes and looking coldly at Felicia Preston.
At this time, Felicia was dragging her arm, her words seemed extremely tragic, and she even made to fall to the ground.
Rhys Jacobs, seeing this, wanted to go over and pull her up, but was blocked by Evelyn Clayton.
Perhaps surprised by Evelyn Clayton’s calm indifference, Felicia Preston’s eyes flickered and she was stunned for a moment.
"Mrs. Preston, the impression you gave me the few times we’ve met before wasn’t like this. Today is quite an eye-opener for me," Evelyn Clayton said with a cold smile. "Is it compensation you’re after now, or what? But you’ve forgotten that although your daughter jumped from our company’s rooftop, she was no longer an employee of ours at the time. She can’t even be considered a work injury, and the police have already concluded it was suicide. What are you trying to do now?"
Evelyn Clayton’s clear and cold voice was neither too loud nor too soft, just audible enough for everyone around to hear.
Clear logic, every point crystal clear.
This immediately made Felicia Preston seem unreasonable.
However, the onlookers did not disperse because of this; they simply shifted their gaze to Felicia Preston, seemingly to see how she would respond.
Panic flashed in Felicia Preston’s eyes, and then her voice grew sharper: "You’re talking nonsense! If it had nothing to do with you, why would my daughter come here to jump off the building? You must have forced her, you forced her... that’s what drove my daughter to this! You must take responsibility!"
Only then did David Lawrence seem to come to his senses, stepping forward to try to help his wife up, but Felicia Preston shook off his hand and glared at him fiercely.
"Our daughter was driven to death by them, and you have nothing to say?"
Faced with Felicia Preston’s fierce gaze, David Lawrence first lowered his eyelids, then let go of his wife’s hand, mumbling.
Felicia Preston’s expression changed subtly, as if resenting his iron for not turning to steel, or disdainfully.
Evelyn Clayton caught this detail, her heart stirred slightly.
From the first time she went to Julia Lawrence’s house, she felt curious; the atmosphere of this family was too strange.
Especially the relationship between David Lawrence and Felicia Preston.
It seems now there really might be something wrong.
"Mrs. Preston, we’ve called the police. You better stand up; we can still talk things through. But if you keep making a scene like this, you will end up with nothing and just wait for detainment."
