Flirted Wrong, Married Right
Chapter 56: I Don’t Care at All
CHAPTER 56: CHAPTER 56: I DON’T CARE AT ALL
"Who said I wanted him to settle down for me?" Evelyn Clayton slightly curled her lips, her eyes full of disdain. "I’ve never demanded that, nor do I care."
Cindy Owens was dumbfounded, "You don’t care?! Aren’t you going to marry him?"
"Yes, and so what? Instead of wasting time being a resentful wife, it’s better to focus on myself. I’ll be happier that way."
Cindy found her views intriguing, but now wasn’t the time for deep discussion, "So you mean you’re not going to help me, right?"
"Mm." Evelyn admitted directly.
"...Fine, have it your way. Let’s see how long you two can enjoy this!" Cindy and Brother Qiu left fuming.
Yara Reagan, still angry but also worried, said, "They won’t retaliate against you, will they?"
"Let them retaliate if they dare. We’re in a society ruled by law now; I’m not afraid of them." Evelyn sneered. Compared to Cindy, she had plenty of other things to do and couldn’t be bothered with her.
The weekend quickly passed, and Monday arrived, with the routine shareholders meeting of The Grant Group about to commence.
Evelyn Clayton arrived early at The Grant Group’s building for preparation and ran into Harrison Grant.
She wanted to avoid him, but it was too early, and there were hardly any people in The Grant Group’s lobby, so Harrison Grant spotted her immediately.
"Evelyn, you’re so early." Harrison Grant patted her shoulder, looking approving.
Evelyn showed a perfect but insincere smile, "Yes, aren’t we announcing our partnership today? I have to come early; I can’t let you lose face."
Harrison nodded with satisfaction, "Evelyn, I knew I wasn’t wrong about you. Work hard, and I’ll give you more opportunities in the future."
"Thank you, Uncle Grant," Evelyn politely shook hands with Harrison Grant.
Harrison invited her to his office for a chat, but Evelyn politely declined.
"I’m waiting for my colleague, Uncle Grant. You should go up first. If the employees see us standing together, it might affect the announcement of our partnership plan."
Harrison said he didn’t care about such things but already had one foot in the elevator.
Evelyn waited in the lobby for Iris Lockwood, and after about half an hour, Iris finally showed up, leisurely late.
As soon as she arrived, without giving Evelyn a chance to speak, she complained, "I’m so out of breath. I couldn’t find a cab this morning and had to drive my new car out!"
Evelyn wanted to roll her eyes but, considering they still had to work together, kept a composed face and said, "Remember, this is the rush hour. Taking the subway is definitely faster than a cab or driving yourself."
"The subway?!" Iris widened her eyes in surprise. "I’ve never taken the subway in my life! So crowded, getting pushed around, what if someone takes advantage of me?!"
"...Couldn’t you leave earlier then?"
"I wanted to leave early, but I had to match my clothes. How do you think my outfit looks?"
Iris twirled in front of Evelyn, proudly showing off her necklace. "Look, my dad just bought this for me as a reward for starting my job."
"Iris Lockwood, if that’s your attitude toward work, then just get out of here," Evelyn said coldly.
"Fine, don’t look if you don’t want to."
Iris pouted. If it weren’t for wanting to successfully attract Matthew Sullivan, she wouldn’t put up with working under Evelyn.
"Come with me upstairs; the meeting is about to start."
Harrison Grant presided over the shareholders meeting, with James Grant, as the president, having no choice but to sit next to him.
"In this meeting, I want to announce a personnel change. The Group is about to initiate the Starlight Project, and I’m inviting Miss Evelyn Clayton to serve as the Artistic Director for this project. Is there any objection?"
The room fell silent, everyone exchanged glances, seemingly waiting for someone to speak first.
James Grant’s expression changed slightly, but he concealed it well, pretending not to care as he asked.
"Wasn’t the Starlight Project on hold? When was it restarted? Without approval?"
