CHAPTER 572: CHAPTER 572: QUICK AND DECISIVE ACTION

Evelyn Clayton was reading the meeting notes while jotting down her thoughts in a memo, so she could send them to Rhys Jacobs for processing.

As her fingers busily flipped through the pages, someone sat down in the seat next to her.

Without lifting her head, Evelyn instinctively shuffled inward, not wanting to crowd the other person.

The person beside her remained quiet, and even as the vehicle started moving, there was no disturbance from them.

It wasn’t until Evelyn finished her work and looked up.

She inadvertently glanced to the side, her eyes widening slightly.

The next moment, Evelyn took off her sunglasses, exchanging looks with the person beside her.

"Officer Young—" Evelyn started to say but swallowed her words, "Gene, Gene, what are you doing here?"

Why would Gene Young be traveling out of the province too?

Gene Young looked equally taken aback.

He held a disposable steam eye mask in his hand, apparently planning to sleep until they reached their destination.

Gene Young smiled helplessly, "What a coincidence, I’m heading to Y Province. What about you?"

The bus had many stops along the way, so it wasn’t strange for Gene Young to ask.

"I’m also going to Y Province," Evelyn said, her gaze turning more serious, "Are you going for...?"

Gene Young instinctively glanced at the passenger to his left, seeing no one was paying attention to them, and lowered his voice: "I’m planning to visit the local police there to see if I can find a way to visit Lars Alden."

Evelyn’s emotions rippled slightly, leaving her speechless for a moment.

After speaking, Gene Young further explained, "I meant to tell you, but on second thought, I figured it was better to wait until things were settled before discussing it. I didn’t expect to bump into you here."

He paused, realizing something, "Are you also heading to Y Province for work-related reasons?"

His question was subtle, with a hint of hesitation in his eyes.

Seeing this, Evelyn sighed softly, deciding not to hide anymore, "I’m going to visit him."

Gene Young’s expression subtly changed.

"I know I shouldn’t have kept this from you," Evelyn explained further, "but like you, I wanted to wait until things were stable before talking about it."

Who would have thought we’d run into each other like this.

Gene Young looked into Evelyn’s clear eyes, feeling an inexplicable trust towards her.

"Doing this is quite risky," Gene Young silently sighed, "If someone is watching you, being alone in Y Province without help could make things difficult."

"But now it’s better. If you are with me, many challenges can be easily resolved."

Evelyn officially invited Gene Young to travel with her.

Gene Young had no objections, though he hesitantly asked, "I got in touch with many people but couldn’t find a way to visit Lars Alden. How did you manage it?"

Evelyn considered his question and replied in a low voice, "Sorry, I’m afraid I can’t disclose that for now. If it becomes possible in the future, I’ll let you know, alright?"

Gene Young immediately expressed his understanding, "As long as one of us can see Lars Alden, that’s enough. I was just asking out of curiosity."

With company, the journey felt less tedious.

At half past four in the afternoon, the bus arrived on time at the Y Province bus station.

Evelyn and Gene Young exited the station together and took a taxi to a hotel near the Y Province city police station to settle in.

Inside the elevator, Evelyn shared information with Gene Young.

"The visitation time is flexible, as long as it’s within five days," Evelyn pondered, "If possible, I want to finish it quickly and go tomorrow."
