Flirted Wrong, Married Right
Chapter 581: Why Are You Here
CHAPTER 581: CHAPTER 581: WHY ARE YOU HERE
The next day.
Evelyn Clayton and Gene Young left the hotel before dawn.
As planned, they went to the clothing factory where they had arranged a visit in advance, noticing nothing amiss along the way.
However, Evelyn did not let her guard down.
Inside the factory, Evelyn glanced at Gene, whose eyes were shadowed. They exchanged a glance but remained silent.
Evelyn went to the back door of the clothing factory, where a black car with Y Province plates was parked.
The rain was still pattering down, the gloomy sky pressing darkly overhead, creating an indescribable oppressiveness.
Evelyn looked around; there was no one in sight, only the misty curtain of rain.
The car had been prepared for her by prior arrangement with the factory manager.
When Evelyn spoke to the manager about her requirements, he said nothing, simply quoted a price and instructed her to wire a deposit to the designated account.
At that moment, Evelyn realized that the manager was undoubtedly experienced in this sort of arrangement.
Considering how close the factory was to the prison, Evelyn understood the situation.
Getting into the car, she removed her raincoat, which was damp with rain, and placed it on the passenger seat. Then, with determination, she pressed the accelerator and sped towards the prison.
There were almost no cars on the highway, so despite the rain making the road slippery and the visibility a bit blurry, Evelyn was still able to observe if any car was following her.
Fortunately, by the time Evelyn reached the junction near the prison, she still hadn’t spotted any suspicious vehicles.
Gazing at the prison gates, Evelyn put on her raincoat and stepped out of the car. She wore a mask, her expression blurred in the rain, but her eyes were distinctly sharp and serene like a deep well.
However, the deep gloom at the bottom of her eyes betrayed a complex tangle of emotions.
As she approached the gate, a guard opened it and silently extended a hand toward her.
Evelyn pulled up a document on her phone to show the guard, and she was soon led inside.
With the heavy rain, the place seemed even more oppressive and damp. Evelyn entered the main hall and was quickly escorted to a room to wait quietly.
The room resembled a lounge, with only chairs and nothing superfluous. An old window framed the gloomy sky outside, creating an unspeakable oppression, causing one’s breath to instinctively pause.
Before long, the door opened, and a guard said solemnly, "Miss Clayton, you may proceed with your visit!"
Evelyn’s heart tightened slightly. She rose and followed the guard out.
She was led to the visiting room. Through a thick window, she saw the small door on the other side slowly open, and two guards brought out a prisoner with a lowered head and a gaunt figure.
Evelyn kept her gaze fixed on the man, patiently waiting for him to sit down and lift his eyes.
When she saw the once earnest and now haggard face, a fleeting frown crossed Evelyn’s brow as she met his gaze.
When Lars Alden glimpsed Evelyn, his eyes widened, and his lips trembled uncontrollably. For a long while, he hastily averted his eyes.
Evelyn gently tapped on the window, and when Lars looked up again, she pointed to the communication device beside her.
She picked up the receiver, patiently waiting for Lars to regain his composure.
After a while, Lars finally picked up the receiver and put it to his ear.
The man’s voice came through, rough and hoarse, very faint.
"Miss... Miss Clayton, why are you here?"
