Flirted Wrong, Married Right
Chapter 642: Entangled Bonds
CHAPTER 642: CHAPTER 642: ENTANGLED BONDS
This remark made James Grant choke up slightly.
Back when Harvestide Holdings was just starting up, Kieran Donovan indeed helped him a lot.
He couldn’t deny this favor.
Tristan Hawthorne was also smart, knowing that he didn’t want to see him now, so he simply had Kieran Donovan come as an intermediary.
After a long silence, James Grant agreed.
As if afraid he might change his mind, Kieran Donovan quickly sent the address, urging him to leave immediately.
James Grant didn’t know what intrigue the two were up to, but he had to fulfill what he promised.
At dusk, it began to snow outside, not much, but unbearably cold.
Before leaving, James Grant paused at the entrance and called Aunt Liu.
"Remember to turn on the floor heating, and also turn on two humidifiers in the room; it’s too dry for her comfort." James Grant’s tone was indifferent, but every sentence was about Evelyn Clayton.
Leaving and getting into the car, the driver pulled out of the villa, and James Grant turned to look at the sky outside.
It was already considered late at night, but the sky, with snow falling, seemed covered in a faint red mist, merging with the night, appearing somewhat surreal.
James Grant rarely saw such skies.
He remembered the last time was probably during his college years.
In the blink of an eye, many years had passed.
Back in college, he knew Evelyn Clayton, knew her family’s long-standing connection with his own, knew his unremarkable brother was destined to marry Evelyn.
He also knew Evelyn was the top student in the Art Department at Riversend University, even considered the department’s beauty.
James Grant suddenly felt curious.
How long had it been since he last saw the spirited Evelyn Clayton?
No...
It seemed he had never seen such a version of Evelyn Clayton.
Even when Evelyn first started her entrepreneurial journey and held two exhibitions, he never thought that was Evelyn at her most spirited.
Evelyn seemed to always have something in her eyes that he couldn’t fathom.
At that time, James Grant couldn’t stand Jasper Grant or Shirley Owens, nor could he stand Marcus, and consequently looked down on Evelyn too.
But no one anticipated that later he would become so deeply entangled with Evelyn Clayton.
The snow seemed to be getting heavier.
Memories flashed before James Grant’s eyes like a moving lantern.
It was the first time he faced Evelyn directly, looking her in the eyes to talk.
He asked Evelyn if she would be his lover.
The car hadn’t turned on the heater; James Grant initially didn’t feel cold, but recalling this moment, he felt a chill like never before.
Yes, indeed... The moment he uttered those words, he had already placed Evelyn in a very passive position.
The gears of destiny from that moment started to spin madly in reverse.
It seemed they were destined never to find peace.
His heart felt as though there was a gaping hole, with cold wind rushing in.
The sensation was truly unbearable.
Even James Grant felt slightly dazed himself; he softly said, "Turn on the heater, please."
The driver heard him, reached to press the heater switch, and after a while asked if he felt comfortable enough.
James Grant responded with a nod, turning his gaze back to the snowflakes flying past the car window.
The snowflakes swiftly swept past him, leaving some on the car window, which soon became vapour due to the heat inside the car, slowly sliding down the glass.
James Grant raised his hand, touching the dark car window glass.
How strange, he thought to himself.
The heater was on in the car, yet his heart and hand felt cold, just like this glass.
The car arrived at the destination.
The place Kieran Donovan mentioned was a bar and club that they and a few friends used to love visiting.
Entering through a special passage, an attendant led him to a private room on the third floor.
Pushing the door open, he was met with the warm smell of alcohol wafting over.
"James!"
