Flirted Wrong, Married Right
Chapter 692: Cleaning Up the Mess
CHAPTER 692: CHAPTER 692: CLEANING UP THE MESS
"Are you really leaving this mess for me to clean up?"
Shane Sinclair couldn’t resist questioning Evelyn Clayton as they left the main building of the villa.
Silas Sinclair and Pauline Warren had just been there, and Shane had held back from asking earlier, but now he couldn’t hold it in any longer.
If Samuel Quinn found out that Evelyn had changed her mind right after agreeing to be his goddaughter, he might just blow up the Sinclair Family’s house.
"Ahem." Evelyn felt it might not be entirely appropriate, but she had to brace herself and say, "I’m sure Samuel will understand. Besides, it won’t make any difference. Sharon is still his goddaughter, everything remains the same. I’m counting on you for this, big brother."
As Evelyn spoke, she flashed a rather ingratiating smile.
Shane was both amused and annoyed.
He rarely saw Evelyn like this, but Shane could sense that Evelyn was in a fairly good mood after sorting things out with Sharon.
The possibility of getting blown up by Samuel Quinn wasn’t all that important anymore.
"Be sure to go to work on time." Shane said sternly, "Don’t be late."
Evelyn knew Shane was agreeing.
"Don’t worry, I’m heading out right now!"
After saying goodbye to Shane, Evelyn drove off with Yara Reagan and Iris Lockwood.
"Have you decided to join Apex as the Design Director?"
In the car, Yara asked Evelyn, "What about your studio?"
Evelyn was steering the wheel, "Xiao Lin has already packed up. She should arrive back in the country by tomorrow night, then she’ll start as my personal assistant."
Iris sighed, "Oh, if only you could come back to Riversend. Gem has so many people, Yara works herself to exhaustion every day."
After saying it, Iris felt she might have stepped in it, glancing at the others’ expressions.
"Thanks for your hard work, Yara. Why don’t we have Shane send a few capable ones to Riversend to help?"
Evelyn didn’t mind. Given her relationship with Yara, this wouldn’t affect anything.
Yara responded, "Please, spare me. The people under Shane are completely incompatible with Gem. Do you remember the Design Director we sent over a couple of years ago? She was incredibly competent but just too intense."
As she spoke, she sat up straight and started complaining: "You wouldn’t believe it—she could have her team working overtime until 2 A.M. At the beginning of the year, there was a girl in their group who got married and took just three days off. Her honeymoon was cut short when she had to return due to her demands. It was downright tragic."
Evelyn couldn’t help but laugh, "But you’re the CEO; didn’t you try to talk her out of it?"
"Of course I did, using both soft and hard approaches. I even brought up not wasting the company’s electricity, but it was useless. The next day, she came to me and said if it was really a concern, have finance print out the electric bill, and she’d personally cover half. It’s terrifying."
Yara shook her head, feeling a mix of love and hate, "This year, their group received the highest level of year-end bonus, yet I still feel guilty towards them."
Evelyn laughed heartily, "Seems like she brought in quite a bit of revenue for you, and here you are complaining."
Iris chimed in, "Yara is exactly like how you used to be, with a sharp tongue but a soft heart. I heard Gem employees have given Yara the nickname ’Iron-Faced Bodhisattva.’"
Evelyn chuckled, "Why do they call her that?"
"Because she has a stern face but offers great benefits. And ninety percent of the employees at Gem are female—you tell me which company in the industry treats its female employees as well as Gem?"
