Flirted Wrong, Married Right
Chapter 699: Explanation of the Situation
CHAPTER 699: CHAPTER 699: EXPLANATION OF THE SITUATION
Evelyn Clayton finished her harsh words and turned to leave for the CEO’s office.
Shane Sinclair saw her coming and paused slightly, "What’s wrong?"
Evelyn originally wanted to ask Shane why he sent James Grant away, but the words felt inappropriate.
She forcibly changed her tone and said softly, "If you think it’s not good for me to meet James Grant at the company, I’ll meet him outside."
Shane’s hands paused slightly, "That’s not what I meant."
Evelyn was genuinely confused now.
Everything was agreed on this morning.
Why suddenly backtrack?
Evelyn hesitantly looked at him, "I don’t quite understand."
"Alright then." Shane put away his pen and looked at Evelyn with a leisureliness, "If I may say, Evelyn, I’ve always been conflicted about whether to ask this question, but now I must."
"If James Grant’s purpose for coming this time is to reconcile with you, would you agree?"
After asking, Shane felt much relieved.
But shortly after, he couldn’t help feeling tense again.
He felt as though he was afraid to hear a confirming answer from Evelyn.
Yet he also felt that even if he heard a confirming answer, he couldn’t do anything about it.
This was Evelyn’s own matter.
He and Evelyn were merely "so-called" siblings.
They had no blood relation, and he couldn’t interfere with Evelyn’s decisions.
Evelyn quietly watched Shane for a while and then slowly said, "So, brother, do you not want me to reconcile with him, or are you afraid I will?"
Shane felt the embarrassment of having his thoughts exposed.
In his lifetime, it was the first time he felt this way.
Fortunately, Shane had trained himself well to remain unflustered by anything, so he countered with, "Why ask this?"
"I want to know your view on this matter." Evelyn exhaled and sat down in front of him, "After all, you’re my family now, and I should heed your opinion."
Shane felt his heart slowly sinking, "So, you are considering reconciling with him?"
"If you mean being with him, then no, that’s impossible." Evelyn’s voice was resolute.
Shane frowned slightly, "Then why—"
"But I don’t know, if in the future Sharon wants to go back to James Grant, whether I would choose to let go of past grievances and be friends with him in front of Sharon."
Shane finally understood, "So, your saying you’ve never hated James Grant was not a lie."
Evelyn chuckled, "Of course. I’ve never blamed what happened five years ago on him. At most, his actions annoyed me, but nothing more."
Shane nodded heavily, "I think I understand what you mean. You won’t be with James Grant again, but you don’t know if you’d keep the peace with him for Sharon’s sake. But Evelyn, have you thought about what James Grant wants? It’s not just this."
Evelyn was completely frank, "I certainly know. But as the saying goes, man plans but fate decides. I’m not the same Evelyn Clayton from five years ago; I won’t let James Grant lead me by the nose."
Shane raised an eyebrow slightly, "Hearing you say that puts my mind at ease."
Evelyn didn’t quite understand what Shane meant by feeling at ease.
But her intuition told her there was no need to delve into it.
She stood up, bid farewell, and prepared to leave.
"After I talk to him, I’ll come back and update you."
