CHAPTER 9: CHAPTER 9: SOMETHING YOU’LL LIKE SOON

The sky had darkened, and Evelyn Clayton was walking alone on the sidewalk outside the villa.

She reached into her bag with trembling hands, only to find that the cigarettes were all gone.

She wasn’t addicted to smoking, but she’d have one when she was feeling unsettled.

Unable to vent her emotions, she felt a bit irritable. An Audi A8 drove up and stopped in front of her.

"Get in," came the terse command.

Evelyn hesitated for a moment. To her, last night was just a fleeting moment, a love affair as ephemeral as the morning dew.

She didn’t want any further entanglement with this man.

James Grant raised an eyebrow at her, signaling for her to look back:

"Still not getting in? My dear brother is about to catch up."

Evelyn frowned and turned to look. Sure enough, she saw Matthew Sullivan under the streetlamp at the distant villa gate, looking around.

It seemed he had seen her.

Matthew quickly started running toward her.

"Evelyn Clayton!"

Evelyn hesitated no longer, pulling open the Audi’s door and sitting in the passenger seat.

James Grant chuckled with amusement, then floored the gas pedal, speeding away with her.

They quickly left the pursuing Matthew behind.

Not long after they drove away, Matthew’s call came through.

"Matthew, can’t you let it go?" Evelyn said, irritated.

"Whose car did you get into?" Matthew asked furiously.

The sky had been too dark earlier, so he hadn’t seen the license plate: "Is that the wild man from last night?"

"I told you, it’s none of your business," Evelyn replied coldly, disregarded Matthew’s angry calls of her name, and hung up mercilessly, even blocking his number.

But after a while, Matthew called again from someone else’s phone.

"Evelyn Clayton!"

Hearing his voice, Evelyn hung up directly, and later simply turned off her phone.

"Ha, you’re truly heartless," James said, his face full of schadenfreude. "You won’t treat me like that in the future, will you?"

"There is no future for us," Evelyn replied indifferently.

James tightened his grip on the steering wheel, corners of his lips curling into an ambiguous smile. "You never know."

Evelyn, feeling distressed, didn’t bother to guess what he was thinking, and only asked, "Do you have a cigarette?"

James tossed her an unopened pack of cigarettes.

She looked at it; not only were they women’s cigarettes, but they were also the ones she was used to smoking.

She just wondered which woman he’d been prepared for.

"You’re quite thoughtful," she teased, pulling out a lighter to light a cigarette. "So well-prepared, it must be for your beloved women, right!"

Hearing this, James’s expression revealed a hint of helplessness.

Taking advantage of the red light, he looked at Evelyn.

The arm with which she held the cigarette rested on the car window, the curling smoke softening her stunning face, giving her a somewhat sad look.

James’s hand brushed under her skirt, giving a light squeeze.

"Pervert." The sadness on her face instantly turned to embarrassed anger.

"There are even more indecent things you’ll definitely like later," he laughed shamelessly.

"Get lost..." Evelyn cursed angrily, but the words "I won’t like it" were stuck in her throat.

James drove the car to a beach where an outdoor movie was playing.

There were no seats on the beach, surrounded by a neat array of luxury cars, with everyone watching the movie from their vehicles.

It was Evelyn’s first time watching an outdoor movie here, and at first, she didn’t notice anything unusual.

But shortly after the movie started, the two cars next to them began to shake.

That’s when she understood.
