CHAPTER 20: A REGISTERED MEMBER

I don’t think that the bulletin board is bad with it being powered by magic, I’m just surprised by it.

Everyone here didn’t seem to be concerned with me walking into the hall like the hunters back in Velgrade. They probably don’t care enough about me or even know who I am here.

Nobody knew me at the other one either but they knew that I was a junker at the very least which was enough to give the looks they gave.

"Definitely quite impressive to see how far humans can adapt." Lilly says quietly to us.

"Maybe keep that kind of talk for outside of a place like this." I suggest while taking a few glances around.

I don’t want to take any chances with people thinking that we are the enemy here, especially with the kind of weapons I see.

Lots of them appeared to have pretty strong looking swords, spears, and I can definitely see a few mages at a few of the tables. All of them were equipped with pretty good gear as well.

"Here to register?" A voice asks from the left side of me.

I turn to see who’s talking to me and it’s a man with all black armor, some silver engravings throughout it, short black hair, and cuts across his face. His dark blue eyes were set on our group, I could tell.

"That’s exactly why I’m here." I answer while observing the man’s expressions.

I have to play everything cautiously since I don’t know how much more of this power will show. I’d rather keep it under wraps until I know how to control it properly.

"I’m surprised, I thought you might’ve been a junker. Your clothing definitely resembles one." He points out while crossing his arms.

New clothes.

I’ll make sure to find something different to wear before leaving this city since I’m no longer living as a junker. It’s time for me to start anew.

"I’m just wearing crap because I just finished up in a dungeon." I say with confidence.

He just gives another glance before walking away. I didn’t hesitate to go up to register as a hunter with the others.

Avoiding conversations like that isn’t easy at all so I’ll have to make sure to have answers in the future. If anything, I’m surprised I haven’t been asked about ghost yet since she’s not human.

I must’ve done a good job at concealing her robotic parts since no one has given any grief.

As we reached the counter I could see another man behind it. He appeared to be wearing a nice black suit with a white undershirt and red tie, slightly spiked short blonde hair, green eyes, and seems to be writing in a book on the counter.

"Turning in a quest, monster kill count, or perhaps you are registering as a hunter." He speaks with a bit of a laid back tone.

"Registration." I answer.

"Here’s a slip for each of you then, assuming that you’re altogether." He says while handing the papers over.

"Thank you." I reply before walking away.

We head over to a table to fill out the papers needed to register as a hunter.

[Aetherion Hunter Registration]

Name: Nakashima Rokuro

Age: 19

Occupation: Hunter.

Talent: Extreme Strength.

Guild: None.

Why do you want to be a hunter? I want to find a way to make the world a better place again. Even if it means killing monsters till the day I die.

———————

I think that’s enough for me to get past the registration for the time being. I can’t really think of a great name for this power of mine so extreme strength should work.

There are hunters with something similar so I doubt it’ll be that big of a deal to use as my excuse.

"Did you both finish filling yours out?" I ask.

"Yep." They both answer at the same time.

With that done I brought the papers back up to the man behind the counter and handed them over to him.

"Extreme Strength, fire magic and strength, and speed. A pretty basic group for the most part." He says before using a stamp on each paper.

I stood there for a moment as he prepared some sort of badges on the counter for us. They seem to have our names and the rank listed on them wasn’t possible to read yet.

"Well you’ll be starting from the bottom of the ranks which is normal for everyone. E Rank. But I believe you have potential to go up if you’re smart." He says with a small smirk.

I took the chance to read the name tag on his chest as well. "Lukas". What a name for someone who handles guild affairs, but he gives off quite the aura.

Whether it’s my power or not, he seems to radiate something around his body but I’m not sure what it is.

"Thanks Lukas. I’m sure we’ll be back." I respond after taking the badges.

Having a badge for something that’s not related to being a junker is definitely a change of pace. I’ve definitely got to work on my fighting skills going forward as well since I never really fought much.

Sigh. I went back to the table to give Ghost and Lilly their badges, of course ghost seemed pretty excited while Lilly could care less.

"Great so we can go kill more monsters now." Lilly says with a bit of an annoyed tone.

"We can get rewarded for it now. The guild here will also help with information on most things we might need too." I reply while taking a glance back at the board.

I don’t know if I’ll ever see that star in my lifetime but I want to stop these monsters from running around the world. People shouldn’t have to live in fear and hunters shouldn’t be constantly fighting.

At least the thought of a peaceful world would be nice again. It’s probably an impossible goal in hindsight but I won’t let it stop me.

Elyndra might have answers for some of the questions I have, even if it doesn’t help with fixing everything the collapse caused. I’m sure someone there has the same belief that it’s not our fate to fight forever.
