CHAPTER 53: A NEW LOOK

She disappears briefly before coming back out with a set of all black clothes. A black trench coat with a black under shirt, pants, and even shoes.

"Go ahead and change." Velia says while turning to face Mira.

I changed into the new clothes which somehow fit me perfectly, a new look like this was perfect. It gave me a lot more of a hunter vibe than my tattered clothes from before.

If only I could get my physical appearance under control... Then everything would be perfect. The wing disappeared from my back luckily but everything else felt the same.

I could only wonder what other hunters would do if they saw me like this.

"I’m done changing. What’s next?" I question while adjusting my coat.

They both turn around and I can’t help but notice the big smile across Mira’s face. This woman is happy and excited about everything.

I can’t seem to understand why it is that she’s like that to begin with since this place isn’t that great. Then again I have to remember that she is one of the people who help out here.

"I’ll guide you both through the mazes until we reach the harder floors of course!" Mira shouts with excitement.

"At least the new look suits you." Velia says after Mira stops shouting.

I shake my head while looking past the two of them. "Thank you Velia." I reply genuinely.

Mira begins to lead the way without us saying anything so we follow behind her, eventually making our way through the floors.

I found myself thinking a lot more as we traveled throughout the mazes of these floors. Velia and Mira had a few interesting conversations about the tower which was surprising.

I didn’t expect Mira to give any information about the tower but I learned quite a bit about it. It’s definitely not the only world that the tower has shown up in, that much was obvious since Velia found it originally in hers.

Except her world wasn’t the first either and that these towers all have a unique tether to each other. Each server a purpose in the world that they rise in, whether it’s to give strength or to destroy those who enter.

There’s very limited time for the towers anymore though apparently. The being at the top is getting tired of helping out in these worlds and doesn’t get anything in return.

I can’t say I’m surprised by that, just makes me wonder why it took them so long to make that decision. I would’ve changed my mind about helping out a long time ago if I was in charge.

"I don’t understand why you would share so much about the tower." I speak up while following behind her.

"The tower is a wonderful place, I just love talking about it. It does suck that everything will be changing but I guess change can be good too." Mira says while keeping a positive tone.

"What exactly will happen to the towers anyway?" I ask with a bit of curiosity.

"They will probably fall apart and we will be given a new purpose I suppose." Mira responds with a bit of that positive tone fading.

I can only imagine what kind of new job they get assigned after dealing with this place. Helping or managing a tower with various floors, monsters, and puzzles can be a big deal.

It’s definitely not something anyone can do so I wonder if they’ll stay in this world or if they’ll disappear.

"So no other humans will get a chance in the tower?" Velia asks.

"Sadly not this time around, maybe in the next era." Mira responds with a sad tone in her voice.

That makes a lot more sense on why we got the special treatment in here... We’re the last humans that get to go through the floors before it crumbles. Will we even have a chance of making it to the top before it all falls apart?

I don’t think the being at the top will want that to happen since they are changing everything now. There’s no need to give out anything when the tower isn’t going to be used for quite some time.

We continue to get through each floor without any problems as Mira continues on about the tower. It started to just sound like repetitive garbage so I began to ignore it.

Velia didn’t seem to mind listening to her since I wasn’t the most talkative when we traveled throughout the floors. I just wanted to get to the last floor of the tower before the opportunity disappears.

There was only one more floor to go before we had to fight against different monsters again. Old souls are the first ones we’ll be facing and from my understanding they are literally old tower climbers.

Ones who couldn’t get past the hard floors, even ones who somehow died in the damn forest. Madness can do a lot to someone.

"We’re almost there. I hope you both are ready to fight the old souls." Mira says while looking towards the door.

A door covered in vines, dirt, and even some dried blood. This was definitely the first floor with enemies that we’d face since passing the 10th floor.

CREEEEEK! Mira pushes the door open, giving a deafening creek as the other side finally becomes visible. It was basically a graveyard with a red moon up in the sky lighting everything up for us.

Literal graves were all throughout the land with dead grass painting the floor. This was definitely the right place, the floor dedicated to the old souls.

[16] The Graveyard.

Velia draws her sword immediately as Mira begins to smile. "Hope you have some power in you to fight again Rokuro." Velia says softly while gripping her sword.

"I guess we’ll find out." I reply while clenching my fists.

The talons didn’t seem to be there anymore either so maybe everything was slowly going away after all that rest. This definitely wasn’t me controlling it by any means.

Lots of killing to do here Rokuro.
