Chapter 27: Business Boomed Even in the Rain, Another 10,000+ in Revenue! Daddy, Teacher Rong Shuang Is Sick!

The rain didn’t stop all night.

Rong Shuang slept poorly, her stomach and head aching, waking up every so often.

By 5 AM, she texted Jiang Feng: “Are you still going out to buy groceries today?”

Jiang Feng, just finished washing up, was slightly surprised but replied: “Yes.”

“Why are you up so early?”

“Couldn’t sleep. If you’re going out, wear a jacket, don’t get wet.”

The last thing she wanted was for him to feel as miserable as she did.

“You still have work later, try to rest more.”

“I’m hungry. I want to eat your cooking.”

“Eat more tonight. Heading out now.”

“Okay.”

After the exchange, Rong Shuang got up and took her temperature.

37.5°C.

Still a fever.

No way she could go to work.

She decided to rest for the day and pick up Youyou from kindergarten in the afternoon for dinner.

Jiang Feng grabbed two jackets after reading her messages.

Jiang Youyou, still half-asleep, shuffled into the bathroom to wash up.

Soon, she was ready.

“Let’s go, Daddy.”

“Youyou, maybe you should stay home and sleep. We’ll go together tomorrow.” Jiang Feng worried she’d catch a chill.

If they had a car, he wouldn’t hesitate, she’d be safe and dry inside.

But the car wasn’t ready yet.

Rainy days were a hassle without one.

Thankfully, when Xu Na had bought her car, she’d been too lazy to handle the paperwork, so Jiang Feng had done it.

He’d already prepared all the documents.

Today, he could finalize the temporary plates, complete the inspection, and drive the car home.

In about a week, the permanent plates would arrive, and they’d be all set.

Youyou insisted: “No! I’m going with you.”

“Alright, let’s go.”

He bundled her in a jacket and an adorable pink raincoat, making sure she’d stay dry before stepping out.

The market was quieter than usual.

“Boss Jiang, you’re dedicated, coming out in this weather.”

“Same to you. It’s tough for everyone. The usual, please: beef, pork, and shrimp.”

Despite the rain, the produce was fresh.

The vendor, though normally unwilling to deliver in bad weather, helped carry the groceries to Jiang Feng’s shop.

No profit in getting soaked, but for Jiang Feng, he made an exception.

This saved Jiang Feng a huge hassle, without the help, he’d have needed two trips while carrying Youyou.

Half the shops on the street stayed closed today.

Cui Hao, however, had opened early. He and his wife lived above their shop and had nothing better to do.

He even helped Jiang Feng move the supplies inside.

“Lao Jiang, bringing the kid along in this weather?” Cui Hao eyed Youyou in surprise.

“I wanted to come with Daddy!” Youyou declared.

Cui Hao sighed. “Your daughter’s a real sweetheart. Mine won’t even talk to me these days.”

His 12-year-old daughter was boarding at school.

Youyou chirped, “She doesn’t like you, that’s why. But I love my daddy the most!”

“Youyou, no need for brutal honesty,” Jiang Feng teased.

Cui Hao lit a cigarette. “Ouch.”

Jiang Feng unlocked the shop, settled Youyou inside, then hauled in the groceries.

Once everything was in place, Youyou started unloading the dishwasher, arranging bowls by the porridge cauldron for easy access.

Outside, the rain lightened but persisted.

Warm and bright inside, father and daughter chatted while prepping for the day.

6:20 AM.

A few customers in raincoats huddled under the awning, waiting for the buns.

Jiang Feng hadn’t expected anyone to queue this early in such weather.

But the line kept growing!

6:50 AM.

After dropping Youyou at kindergarten, Jiang Feng returned to find an eager queue.

“Boss Jiang, hurry up, it’s freezing out here!”

“What kind of June weather is this?”

*”Cold days mean extra appetite! 15 beef buns, 15 zucchini-egg buns, and 4 porridges, please!”*

Jiang Feng got to work.

By 8:10 AM, everything had sold out, another 10,000+ yuan in morning revenue!

As he grabbed a rag to wipe down the shop, he realized it was cleaner than usual.

Regulars in raincoats had eaten elsewhere to save him the trouble and avoid slowing down production.

This kind of neighborly warmth was why he loved this place.

A quick tidy-up, and the rain had stopped.

Jiang Feng bought lunch ingredients and started prepping.

Meanwhile, at the kindergarten:

Youyou approached her teacher. “Teacher Zhou, can I use your phone?”

“What’s wrong, Youyou?”

“I need to call Daddy. It’s important.”

“Alright, but make it quick, fruit time soon.”

“Okay~”

She’d memorized Jiang Feng’s number long ago.

When Jiang Feng saw “Teacher Zhou” calling, he answered, puzzled. “Teacher Zhou?”

“Mhm, Xiao Jiang ah~” Youyou faked a deeper voice.

Jiang Feng laughed. “No ice cream for you today.”

“Daddy, I’m sorry! I won’t do it again!” she wailed.

“Why are you calling now?”

Youyou whispered: “Teacher Rong Shuang didn’t come to work today.”

“They said she’s sick. Daddy, she must be feeling really bad. Shouldn’t you check on her?”

“How serious is it?”

“Don’t know. But it’s the first time she’s ever missed work!”

“Got it. Anything else?”

“Nope! See you this afternoon! Love you!”

She hung up.

Jiang Feng chuckled, then texted Rong Shuang:

“You’re sick?”

At home, Rong Shuang picked at her breakfast, takeout fried dough sticks and preserved egg porridge.

This place used to taste fine.

Now it was bland.

She missed Jiang Feng’s cooking.

Missed him.

I just want to see him!

Her phone buzzed on the table.

A message from Jiang Feng.
