Chapter 33: Caden, Why Are You So Good to Me?
CHAPTER 33: CHAPTER 33: CADEN, WHY ARE YOU SO GOOD TO ME?
"Public?"
Mrs. Hawthorne was slightly taken aback when she heard Caden Hawthorne say he wanted to make it public, but then she showed a pleased smile.
"That’s a good idea, Caden. Your grandpa says you’ve changed; at first, I didn’t believe it, but now I do."
Caden raised his eyebrow slightly and asked with some confusion, "What did Grandpa say?"
Mrs. Hawthorne chuckled and explained, "Your grandpa said you used to be indifferent to everything, but now you’re considering Vivian and even actively proposing to go public with your relationship. It shows that you have someone important in your heart."
Caden was silent for a moment, pondering.
He hadn’t realized the changes within himself. Perhaps, without him knowing, Vivian Lynch had already taken a place in his heart.
"Son, have you fallen for Vivian?" Mrs. Hawthorne suddenly became a bit gossipy.
"Mom, don’t overthink it. I just want to compensate her. After all, she’s carrying my child."
Caden frowned slightly. During his time with Vivian Lynch, many uncontrollable factors indeed happened. He refused to admit he had fallen for her, preferring to believe he simply wanted to take responsibility.
Mrs. Hawthorne looked at Caden, her eyes showing a hint of disbelief. "Is it really just compensation? I see your care for Vivian is not just for the child."
"Mom, now’s not the time to talk about this." Caden deflected the topic, "We need to plan carefully about going public."
Mrs. Hawthorne smiled and stopped asking further. "Alright, think it through. But I do think Vivian is a good girl, don’t let her slip away."
"Mom, I know what I’m doing."
At that moment, Vivian Lynch was reading in her room, with soothing music playing from a speaker beside her.
Suddenly, Vivian received a call from her best friend Stella Fletcher.
"Hey, Stella, what’s up?"
"Vivian, did you check Weibo? The person who slandered you has posted a video to clarify, saying that all of this was under Jessica Hart’s instruction. She was jealous of you and paid someone to tarnish your reputation online."
Vivian was slightly stunned, then picked up another phone to check Weibo.
Indeed, the person who spread the rumors posted an apology video, explaining the situation in detail.
"Vivian, you found the rumor spreader so quickly. Could it be your husband who did this?" Stella asked over the phone.
Her feelings were complicated; she also sensed Caden could be the one who helped.
"Vivian, hitting the jackpot with Master Hawthorne - such a handsome, wealthy, and powerful man - now settling all the troubles for you. Do you think he might have fallen for you?"
Upon hearing this, Vivian’s face turned slightly red, and she quickly said, "Stella, don’t say that. Everything he’s done is surely because of the child, not because of me."
Stella scoffed lightly over the phone, "Vivian, stop deceiving yourself. If it’s just because of the child, why would he go to such trouble? I think he surely has other thoughts about you."
Vivian’s heart skipped a beat, but she still stubbornly said, "Impossible, we’re just in a contractual marriage; he won’t fall in love with me."
"What’s wrong with a contractual marriage? Who can predict emotions? Maybe he unknowingly fell for you while spending time with you," Stella continued to tease.
Vivian said in a flustered tone, "Stella, stop talking nonsense. Between him and me... it’s impossible."
"Why impossible? Vivian, you being so amazing makes it natural for him to fall for you. And haven’t you liked him even a little?" Stella insisted.
Vivian fell silent, unsure of how to answer.
In fact, her heart was somewhat shaken too. This period of time spent with Caden Hawthorne gave her a different feeling towards him. However, she didn’t dare to admit it, nor did she dare to think about it.
"Vivian, think carefully. I believe Caden Hawthorne truly feels differently about you." Stella said before hanging up.
Vivian held her phone, lost in thought.
She didn’t know exactly what her feelings for Caden were or how Caden truly felt about her. She felt her heart was a mess, a real mess.
She was well aware of herself; between her and Caden Hawthorne lay an insurmountable chasm. She was a girl who grew up in the slums, and he was the ruler of a premier wealthy family, a favored son of the heavens.
Thus, Vivian never dared to hope that Caden would fall for her.
Even though she knew the kindness he showed was all for the child she carried, she couldn’t help but feel touched and indulge in those moments.
Just then, there was a knock on the door.
Vivian snapped back to reality, saying, "Come in."
The door opened, and Caden Hawthorne walked in, carrying a platter of fresh grapes.
Caden approached her, picked up her book set aside, and glanced at the title.
"What book are you reading?"
Vivian said nervously, "Just browsing, passing the time."
Caden put down the book, looked at her, and said, "Don’t overexert yourself, get some rest."
Vivian softly replied, "Mm," not daring to meet his gaze.
Caden looked at Vivian, noticing her unusual expression and couldn’t help but ask, "What’s wrong? Do you feel unwell somewhere?"
Vivian quickly shook her head, "No, I’m fine."
Seeing that she wouldn’t say, Caden handed her the fruit platter, "Then have some fruit! I just washed them."
Hearing this, Vivian’s face showed surprise, she was slightly stunned and looked at him blankly,
"For me?"
Caden nodded slightly, nonchalantly saying, "Yes, Mom told me that pregnant women like eating acidic things. I noticed you didn’t eat much tonight and felt nauseous, so I brought you some fruit."
A warm feeling arose within Vivian’s heart as she accepted the platter and softly said, "Thank you."
Caden looked at her, eyes showing a hint of tenderness. "No need to be so polite."
Instantly, the room fell silent; their gazes met, both unsure of what to say, and gradually felt a bit awkward.
"Well, take a good rest. I’ll head out now." Caden first broke the silence.
After saying that, Caden turned to leave.
Vivian watched his departing figure, overwhelmed with emotions, she quickly called him, "Caden..."
Caden halted his steps at the doorway, hearing her call, he turned around and looked at Vivian.
"What’s wrong?"
Vivian’s eyes were slightly red, "Caden, why are you so good to me?"
Upon hearing Vivian’s question, Caden only frowned. Why was he good to her?
This question, Caden couldn’t answer.
"I see everything you’ve done for me." Vivian lowered her gaze and took a deep breath, saying, "Caden, can you tell me why you’re so good to me?"
