From Ignored to Adored: The Heiress Melts the Self-Restrained Boss
Chapter 39: Relax, I Don’t Bite
CHAPTER 39: CHAPTER 39: RELAX, I DON’T BITE
Caden Hawthorne supported Vivian Lynch back to the room and reminded, "Have a good rest. If you feel uncomfortable, just call me."
Caden’s room was right next to Vivian’s, so if she needed anything, he could appear promptly.
"Okay." Vivian nodded slightly, watching Caden prepare to leave, she suddenly stopped him, "Wait a minute."
Caden paused, turned around to look at Vivian, "What’s wrong?"
Vivian hesitated for a moment, "Today, Sean Sinclair came to see me."
Upon hearing the name "Sean Sinclair," Caden’s handsome face became gloomy. This damn ex-boyfriend just wouldn’t go away, would he?
"Did he trouble you again?"
Vivian got up quickly and waved her hand, "No, he didn’t trouble me. Jessica Hart is missing, he couldn’t find her, so he came to ask if I’ve seen her."
"Oh." Caden’s expression was calm, his face unchanged.
"Does Jessica Hart’s disappearance have something to do with you?" Vivian knew she shouldn’t suspect Caden, but Jessica hadn’t offended anyone in Aethelgard, so it was impossible for her to disappear without reason.
Caden squinted slightly, his gaze locked onto Vivian. After a moment of silence, he slowly spoke, "Do you think I would do anything to her?"
Vivian felt uneasy under his gaze, lowered her head, and murmured, "I... I just think it’s too strange."
Caden walked to Vivian, lifted her chin to make her look into his eyes, "Vivian Lynch, regardless of whether Jessica Hart’s disappearance was my doing, it’s not something you should be worried about. Someone as despicable as her deserves punishment."
Hearing this, Vivian lowered her eyes, apologetically saying, "Caden, I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have doubted you."
Caden sighed helplessly, reached out to stroke her head, and said indulgently, "Be good, rest well. Don’t waste energy on people who don’t matter."
Vivian nodded obediently, "Okay."
After speaking, Caden turned and walked to the room door. He twisted the lock to leave but found the door wouldn’t open.
"What’s wrong?" Seeing Caden trying and failing to open the door, Vivian walked over in confusion.
Caden turned around, a look of helplessness on his face, "They locked the door from the outside."
"Who?" Vivian looked puzzled, then realized, "Was it Aunt Hawthorne’s doing?"
"I fear it might be Riley Hawthorne’s idea."
Caden’s brows slightly furrowed as he contemplated how to handle this situation.
Vivian grew anxious too, "So what do we do now? How will you get out?"
Caden calmly said, "Don’t worry, I’ll think of something."
He walked to the window to check the situation outside. It was pitch black, and the floor was so high that jumping out would certainly result in broken legs.
"Is there a rope in the room?" Caden couldn’t help but ask Vivian.
Vivian shook her head, looking worried, "No, it’s too high, you better not jump."
"It seems I can’t get out tonight. They’ve made up their minds to lock us in here." Caden spread his hands, shrugged his shoulders, and wore a helpless expression.
Vivian sighed, "Why would Aunt Hawthorne do this? And Riley, why is she joining in on this nonsense?
Caden’s lips curved slightly, his gaze playful, "Why else? They just want us to develop some feelings."
Hearing this, Vivian’s cheeks flushed slightly. She lowered her head and softly said, "Then what should we do now? We can’t just stay trapped in the room all night."
Caden, unhurried and seemingly unworried, moved to sit beside Vivian’s bed, "Don’t worry, by morning, they’ll open the door and let us out."
Just as Vivian felt at a loss, footsteps echoed outside the room.
Caden and Vivian exchanged a glance, quickly went to the door, knocked on it, and shouted, "Riley, hurry up and open the door."
Outside, Riley said with a chuckle, "Brother, just don’t go back to your room tonight. Spend some good time with your sister-in-law!"
"Nonsense! Open the door now."
Riley, arms crossed, blinked her eyes and said through the door, "Brother, stop resisting. You and your sister-in-law are already married. What’s wrong with sharing a bed?"
Caden sighed helplessly, turned to look at Vivian, seeing her face completely red and embarrassed.
"Riley, stop playing around. Open the door." Caden said again.
Riley mischievously said, "I won’t. Brother, sister-in-law, good night! I’m going back to my room to sleep!"
Immediately, there was no more sound from outside the door.
"Riley, come back here!"
Caden frowned slightly, just about to call Riley back when Vivian gently pulled his clothes, urging, "Caden, just let it go. Let’s make do for tonight!"
Caden was moved, seeing Vivian’s shy expression stirred tenderness within him.
He nodded, "Alright."
The room fell silent again as Caden and Vivian exchanged a glance, and the atmosphere became a bit ambiguous.
Caden walked to the side of the bed and sat down. Vivian stood nearby, unsure of what to do.
Was she really going to sleep in the same bed with him tonight?
Even though it wasn’t their first time and they already had a child, Vivian still couldn’t help but feel nervous.
Caden was also a bit nervous, and he rubbed his thighs to ease the awkwardness, "I... I’ll take a shower."
As soon as he spoke, Caden headed to the bathroom first.
Seeing this, Vivian also felt a bit awkward and embarrassed.
However, Caden’s earlier demeanor was rather cute, like a shy big boy.
Soon, the sound of running water came from the bathroom.
Whenever Vivian got nervous, she wanted to find something to distract herself.
Thinking she hadn’t drawn any design sketches in a long time, she pulled out sketch paper and a pencil from the drawer, sat at the desk, and started drawing.
Time quietly slipped away in the silence, and the sound of water in the bathroom gradually stopped.
Caden emerged wearing a bathrobe, with water droplets still in his hair, exuding a lazy aura. His gaze fell on Vivian, who was seriously drawing, and under the soft light, her profile looked particularly beautiful.
Caden quietly walked beside Vivian and looked at the forming design sketch, a hint of admiration in his eyes.
"It’s beautifully drawn." he said softly.
Vivian was startled by his voice, almost dropping the pencil in her hand.
She looked up at Caden, her cheeks slightly flushed, "You... you’ve finished bathing."
Caden nodded, "Mm, you should take a shower too and rest early."
Vivian hesitated, her cheeks getting hotter, "I’ll... I’ll wash later."
Caden noticed her nervousness and smirked, "Don’t be nervous, I won’t bite."
