From Ignored to Adored: The Heiress Melts the Self-Restrained Boss
Chapter 45: I’m Afraid Some People Can’t Control Themselves at Midnight
CHAPTER 45: CHAPTER 45: I’M AFRAID SOME PEOPLE CAN’T CONTROL THEMSELVES AT MIDNIGHT
The city night is dazzling, like a brilliant galaxy fallen to the world.
Hartswell Manor.
Caden Hawthorne is taking a shower in the bathroom, warm water cascading down his muscular body.
"Vivian, these are Caden’s change of clothes. Could you take them to his room for me?"
Faced with Mrs. Hawthorne’s request, Vivian Lynch looked puzzled. Isn’t this usually something the household staff does?
Mrs. Hawthorne seemed to read her mind and smiled, "You know, Caden is a bit of a germaphobe and doesn’t like people touching his clothes."
"Alright then!" Vivian hesitated for a moment but eventually took the clothes from Mrs. Hawthorne.
She slowly walked toward Caden’s room, a slight tension rising within her.
Opening the door, a faint masculine scent greeted her. The room’s decor was simple yet grand, dominated by dark grey, showcasing the owner’s taste but lacking some color.
Vivian carefully placed the clothes on the bed and was just about to leave when suddenly the bathroom door opened.
Caden emerged wrapped in a towel, water still dripping from his hair.
He was shirtless, water droplets trailing down his chest, over his perfect abs, exuding potent male hormones.
Vivian’s eyes widened instantly, her whole body frozen as if under a spell.
Caden’s gaze showed a hint of surprise, before regaining calm.
"What are you doing here?" Caden’s voice was deep and magnetic.
Vivian’s face turned crimson in an instant, stammering as she explained, "It... it was Mrs. Hawthorne who asked me to bring you clothes."
Caden slightly furrowed his brows without saying anything. Feeling the awkwardness, Vivian quickly said, "I’ll be going now."
Nervously, Vivian dashed towards the door, but in her haste, she twisted her ankle, about to fall to the ground.
Quick as lightning, Caden stepped forward, pulling her into his embrace.
At that moment, time seemed to stand still. Vivian felt Caden’s strong heartbeat, her own racing faster.
"See it all and want to run?" Caden whispered beside her ear, warm breath brushing past.
Instantly, Vivian’s face was beet red, her heart fluttering like a startled deer, "I-I didn’t mean to, I didn’t know you were showering."
As soon as she finished speaking, Vivian promptly struggled out of Caden’s embrace, keeping some distance from him.
Seeing the nervous Vivian, Caden smirked playfully, "Afraid of me? I won’t eat you."
Vivian bit her lip, muttering under her breath, "Who knows if you would."
Hearing this, Caden’s smile deepened, "Can’t say for sure."
Vivian’s face grew even redder, lowering her head, not daring to meet Caden’s gaze.
Suddenly, the sound of coughing came from the doorway. Mrs. Hawthorne stood there with a knowing smile on her face.
Caden frowned, looking embarrassed, glaring at Mrs. Hawthorne.
Mrs. Hawthorne seemed nonchalant, smiling as she said, "Did I come at a bad time?"
"Mom, you misunderstand." Vivian hurriedly tried to explain.
Who knew, Mrs. Hawthorne immediately said, "You two get some rest then, I won’t disturb you."
With those words, she quickly shut the door with a "bang".
Seeing this, Vivian rushed over, attempting to open the door, only to find Mrs. Hawthorne had locked it from outside.
No matter how Vivian twisted the lock, it wouldn’t budge. She turned back with a helpless look at Caden, "Not this again?"
Caden remained calm, a hint of amusement in his smile, "If it won’t open, we’ll just have to make do for the night."
Vivian’s eyes widened, stamping her foot in frustration, "How can this be? Caden, think of a way!"
Caden folded his arms, gazing at her with interest, "What can I do? This is Mom’s doing."
Vivian angrily walked over to sit by the bed, grumbling non-stop. Caden moved to the window, gazing at the night scene outside, lost in thought.
After a while, Vivian’s stomach suddenly let out a loud "gurgling" sound. Her face turned red again, sneaking a glance at Caden, who seemed not to have noticed.
"I’m a bit hungry," Vivian murmured softly.
She found that ever since she was three months pregnant, her nausea had lessened, but she got hungry faster at night.
Caden turned around, chuckling lightly, "Wait here."
Then he opened a cabinet, surprisingly retrieving some snacks and fruits.
"Why do you have these in your room?" Vivian asked in surprise.
Caden raised an eyebrow: "It’s a secret."
Vivian didn’t think much of it and opened a bag of chips to start eating, easing the atmosphere in the room somewhat.
"Here, have some juice." Caden, worried that Vivian might choke on the dry snacks, thoughtfully handed her a bottle of juice.
"Thank you." Vivian accepted it, clearly enjoying herself.
The main thing was that she was pregnant now, and Mrs. Hawthorne didn’t allow her to eat snacks, saying they’re unhealthy. At the Hawthorne Family, snacks were seldom seen.
She hadn’t expected that Caden’s room would have some hidden.
Thinking of this, Vivian couldn’t help but tease, "Are you secretly eating snacks behind my back?"
Caden snorted lightly: "I’m not as greedy as you."
Vivian pouted: "Then why do you have these hidden away?"
Caden paused slightly, his gaze flickering: "Can’t I occasionally indulge?"
Vivian rolled her eyes and continued eating the chips. After feeling satisfied, she yawned, as drowsiness began to creep in.
Caden watched her tired expression and said, "Sleep."
Vivian hesitated for a moment but eventually laid down on the bed, while Caden naturally lay down beside her.
Seeing this, Vivian couldn’t help but move away to keep a certain distance from him.
Watching Vivian’s actions, Caden turned sideways to look at her, "Why so far away? Afraid I’ll eat you?"
Vivian’s face showed embarrassment, "I’m afraid someone might not control themselves and start touching randomly in the middle of the night."
Caden’s lips curved into a mischievous smile upon hearing this: "You know me so well?"
This guy didn’t feel any guilt, instead he seemed rather proud?
Thinking of this, Vivian glared at him: "Don’t be so smug."
With that, she turned her back to Caden. However, Caden gently reached over and pulled her back.
"Don’t move around, be careful not to hurt the baby." Caden’s voice was unusually gentle.
Vivian was slightly startled, a strange feeling stirring within her. Just as her mind started wandering, Caden’s arm gently encircled her.
"Sleep." Caden whispered softly in her ear.
Vivian bit her lip, hesitated for a moment, but ultimately did not pull away.
Unsure how much time had passed, Vivian finally fell into a deep sleep.
In the middle of the night, Vivian suddenly felt a discomfort in her stomach and let out a soft groan. Caden immediately opened his eyes and asked nervously, "What’s wrong?"
Vivian frowned: "My stomach hurts a bit."
Caden’s face instantly changed; he hurriedly got up and grabbed his phone, ready to call the doctor.
Just then, Vivian grabbed his hand: "Don’t panic, maybe it’s because I ate too much tonight, pressing on the baby."
Only then did Caden breathe a sigh of relief, sitting on the bed, gently stroking Vivian’s belly: "This little one really doesn’t let us relax."
Seeing Caden’s anxious expression, Vivian felt a warmth rise inside her: "Caden, do you care about this baby?"
Caden was silent for a moment, then looked up at her and said, "Of course, this is our baby."
Vivian smiled, and at that moment, she felt that Caden wasn’t as disagreeable as before. Instead, she found herself increasingly immersed in his care for her, sometimes even imagining how great it would be if she and Caden could continue like this.
Vivian longed for love and happiness, but her upbringing made her hesitant to give in to love.
Therefore, she felt conflicted inside, unable to express her love to Caden.
Vivian sighed softly, her thoughts drifting.
She recalled her difficult journey, growing up in poverty, never truly feeling warmth and care within the Lynch Family.
Now, even with Caden and the baby, she still felt like she was in a beautiful dream, ready to wake up at any moment.
Caden seemed to sense her change in mood and gently asked, "What are you thinking about?"
Vivian returned to her senses and shook her head: "Nothing."
Caden frowned slightly, knowing she was hiding something but chose not to press further.
"Sleep, don’t overthink."
Vivian nodded, closed her eyes, striving to calm her mood. However, her heart couldn’t find peace, various thoughts intertwining and weaving through her mind.
